Uzmite trofej, dobijte ULCA-u, velikog rivala - bila je želja navijača USC-a (University of Southern California) uoči velikog finala za vaterpolskog prvaka SAD-a. Na kraju USC nije uspio. UCLA je slavila u njegovom domu sa 7:6, te 12. put osvojila naslov, dok je USC ostao na deset 'zvjezdica'. Posljednju je 'prišio' 2018. godine. Tad ga je do naslova vodio Dubrovčanin Jacob Merčep, MVP završnog turnira, koji je ove godine muku mučio s ozljedom, a osim toga USC nije bio kompletan, te mu nitko nije davao izgleda ni za plasman u veliko finale.

Međutim, unatoč svemu USC je ugodno iznenadio. Izborio je završnicu, a u polufinalu izbacio Californiu, sastav koji je bio broj jedan uoči završnog turnira, koji je imao najbolji omjer pobjeda i poraza i koji je zahvaljujući tome bio slobodan u četvrtfinalu za razliku od Merčepa i ekipe.

UCLA je na poluvremenu velikog finala vodila s 3:0. Prvi pogodak za USC u finalu postigao je baš Dubrovčanin početkom treće četvrtine u kojoj je pred kraj rezultat bio izjednačen – 4:4. ULCA je u posljednjih osam minuta ušla s pogotkom prednosti (5:4), a s dva pogotka na početku posljednje četvrtine otišla još jednom na plus tri (7:4). Potom je Merčep pogodio za 5:7, a nakon toga asistirao za 6:7. Imao je USC nekoliko prilika za (novo) izjednačenje. Zadnju u zadnjih 20 sekundi četvrte četvrtine. Merčep je osam sekundi do kraja izborio igrača više, ali njegov suigrač Chris Sturtevant nije uspio s krila zatresti mrežu, već je zatresao okvir gola. UCLA je zgrabila loptu, te dočekala zvuk sirene koji je označio kraj finala, a početak njenog slavlja.

Merčep tako nije uspio ove 2021. doći do svog drugog naslova prvaka SAD-a s USC-om. Ali, imat će još jednu priliku. Igrat će i iduće sezone u kapici USC-a, koji bi tad trebao biti kompletan (vratit će se igrači koji se ove sezone bore za mjesto u reprezentaciji SAD-a za nastup na Olimpijskim igrama, te su odlučili igrati u Europi).

Dubrovčanin je bio prvi strijelac USC-a i ove sezone. Postigao je ukupno 39 pogodaka. Računajući sve sezone jedan mu pogodak nedostaje za ulazak u TOP 10 najboljih strijelaca USC-a svih vremena. Do danas je postigao 151 pogodak s tim što se 2020. godine zbog korone nije igralo.

Uzmite trofej, dobijte ULCA-u, velikog rivala - bila je želja navijača USC-a (University of Southern California) uoči velikog finala za vaterpolskog prvaka SAD-a. Na kraju USC nije uspio. UCLA je slavila u njegovom domu sa 7:6, te 12. put osvojila naslov, dok je USC ostao na deset 'zvjezdica'. Posljednju je 'prišio' 2018. godine. Tad ga je do naslova vodio Dubrovčanin Jacob Merčep, MVP završnog turnira, koji je ove godine muku mučio s ozljedom, a osim toga USC nije bio kompletan, te mu nitko nije davao izgleda ni za plasman u veliko finale.

Međutim, unatoč svemu USC je ugodno iznenadio. Izborio je završnicu, a u polufinalu izbacio Californiu, sastav koji je bio broj jedan uoči završnog turnira, koji je imao najbolji omjer pobjeda i poraza i koji je zahvaljujući tome bio slobodan u četvrtfinalu za razliku od Merčepa i ekipe.

UCLA je na poluvremenu velikog finala vodila s 3:0. Prvi pogodak za USC u finalu postigao je baš Dubrovčanin početkom treće četvrtine u kojoj je pred kraj rezultat bio izjednačen – 4:4. ULCA je u posljednjih osam minuta ušla s pogotkom prednosti (5:4), a s dva pogotka na početku posljednje četvrtine otišla još jednom na plus tri (7:4). Potom je Merčep pogodio za 5:7, a nakon toga asistirao za 6:7. Imao je USC nekoliko prilika za (novo) izjednačenje. Zadnju u zadnjih 20 sekundi četvrte četvrtine. Merčep je osam sekundi do kraja izborio igrača više, ali njegov suigrač Chris Sturtevant nije uspio s krila zatresti mrežu, već je zatresao okvir gola. UCLA je zgrabila loptu, te dočekala zvuk sirene koji je označio kraj finala, a početak njenog slavlja.

Merčep tako nije uspio ove 2021. doći do svog drugog naslova prvaka SAD-a s USC-om. Ali, imat će još jednu priliku. Igrat će i iduće sezone u kapici USC-a, koji bi tad trebao biti kompletan (vratit će se igrači koji se ove sezone bore za mjesto u reprezentaciji SAD-a za nastup na Olimpijskim igrama, te su odlučili igrati u Europi).

Dubrovčanin je bio prvi strijelac USC-a i ove sezone. Postigao je ukupno 39 pogodaka. Računajući sve sezone jedan mu pogodak nedostaje za ulazak u TOP 10 najboljih strijelaca USC-a svih vremena. Do danas je postigao 151 pogodak s tim što se 2020. godine zbog korone nije igralo.

DVA POGOTKA DUBROVČANINA U VELIKOM FINALU, ASISTENCIJE, IZBORENA ISKLJUČENJA Jacob Merčep ovaj put ostao pogodak kratak

Uzmite trofej, dobijte ULCA-u, velikog rivala - bila je želja navijača USC-a (University of Southern California) uoči velikog finala za vaterpolskog prvaka SAD-a. Na kraju USC nije uspio. UCLA je slavila u njegovom domu sa 7:6, te 12. put osvojila naslov, dok je USC ostao na deset 'zvjezdica'. Posljednju je 'prišio' 2018. godine. Tad ga je do naslova vodio Dubrovčanin Jacob Merčep, MVP završnog turnira, koji je ove godine muku mučio s ozljedom, a osim toga USC nije bio kompletan, te mu nitko nije davao izgleda ni za plasman u veliko finale.

Međutim, unatoč svemu USC je ugodno iznenadio. Izborio je završnicu, a u polufinalu izbacio Californiu, sastav koji je bio broj jedan uoči završnog turnira, koji je imao najbolji omjer pobjeda i poraza i koji je zahvaljujući tome bio slobodan u četvrtfinalu za razliku od Merčepa i ekipe.

UCLA je na poluvremenu velikog finala vodila s 3:0. Prvi pogodak za USC u finalu postigao je baš Dubrovčanin početkom treće četvrtine u kojoj je pred kraj rezultat bio izjednačen – 4:4. ULCA je u posljednjih osam minuta ušla s pogotkom prednosti (5:4), a s dva pogotka na početku posljednje četvrtine otišla još jednom na plus tri (7:4). Potom je Merčep pogodio za 5:7, a nakon toga asistirao za 6:7. Imao je USC nekoliko prilika za (novo) izjednačenje. Zadnju u zadnjih 20 sekundi četvrte četvrtine. Merčep je osam sekundi do kraja izborio igrača više, ali njegov suigrač Chris Sturtevant nije uspio s krila zatresti mrežu, već je zatresao okvir gola. UCLA je zgrabila loptu, te dočekala zvuk sirene koji je označio kraj finala, a početak njenog slavlja.

Merčep tako nije uspio ove 2021. doći do svog drugog naslova prvaka SAD-a s USC-om. Ali, imat će još jednu priliku. Igrat će i iduće sezone u kapici USC-a, koji bi tad trebao biti kompletan (vratit će se igrači koji se ove sezone bore za mjesto u reprezentaciji SAD-a za nastup na Olimpijskim igrama, te su odlučili igrati u Europi).
