Britanski proizvođač lijekova AstraZeneca u subotu je objavio kako se čini da njegovo cjepivo protiv koronavirusa, razvijeno u suradnji sa Sveučilištem Oxford, pruža tek ograničenu zaštitu od južnoafričke varijante bolesti COVID-19, na temelju prvih podataka kliničkog ispitivanja, prenosi Jutarnji list.
Studija južnoafričkog sveučilišta Witwatersrand i sveučilišta Oxford pokazala je da cjepivo ima bitno smanjenu učinkovitost protiv blagog oblika južnoafričke varijante bolesti, prenio je list Financial Times.
Među varijantama koronavirusa koje trenutno najviše zabrinjavaju znanstvenike su tzv. britanska, južnoafrička i brazilska varijanta, koje se, čini se, šire mnogo brže od drugih.
"U prvoj i drugoj fazi ovom malog ispitivanja rani podaci pokazuju ograničenu učinkovitost protiv blage bolesti prije svega zbog južnoafričke varijante B.1.351", kazao je glasnogovornik AstraZenece upitan o izvješću Financial Timesa.
Prema listu nijedan od više od 2000 sudionika ispitivanja nije hospitaliziran ili umro.
"Još ne možemo primjereno ocijeniti učinkovitost cjepiva protiv teškog oblika bolesti i hospitalizacija s obzirom na to da su ispitanici uglavnom mlade i zdrave odrasle osobe", kazao je glasnogovornik AstraZenece.
Tvrtka vjeruje da njezino cjepivo može štititi protiv teškog oblika bolesti jer je neutralizirajuća aktivnost antititijela jednaka drugim cjepivima protiv COVID-19 koja su pokazala zaštitu protiv teškog oblika bolesti.
Ispitivanje koje je obuhvatilo 2026 osoba od kojih je polovica činila kontrolnu skupinu nije još recenzirano.
Iako se pojavilo na tisuće pojedinačnih promjena s mutacijama virusa u nove varijante tek manji dio mogao bi biti značajan ili promijeniti virus na primjetan način, prema časopisu British Medical Journal.
"Sveučilište Oxford i AstraZeneca počeli su prilagođavati cjepivo toj varijanti i brzo će proći klinički razvoj tako da bude najesen spremno za distribuciju", kazao je glasnogovornik AstraZenece.
U petak, Oxford je objavio da cjepivo ima protiv britanske varijante sličnu učinkovitost kao i kod ranijih varijanti virusa.
Kako smo već javljali, pitanja koja se postavljaju oko cjepiva AstraZenece vezana uz njihovu učinkovitost kod starijih od 65 godina razlog su što su neke zemlje poput Norveške, Švedske, Finske, Njemačke i Danske odlučile da dok ne dobiju čvršće dokaze o učinkovitosti tog cjepiva za starije, ono će biti rezervirano za mlađe od 65 ili čak 55 godina.

Britanski proizvođač lijekova AstraZeneca u subotu je objavio kako se čini da njegovo cjepivo protiv koronavirusa, razvijeno u suradnji sa Sveučilištem Oxford, pruža tek ograničenu zaštitu od južnoafričke varijante bolesti COVID-19, na temelju prvih podataka kliničkog ispitivanja, prenosi Jutarnji list.
Studija južnoafričkog sveučilišta Witwatersrand i sveučilišta Oxford pokazala je da cjepivo ima bitno smanjenu učinkovitost protiv blagog oblika južnoafričke varijante bolesti, prenio je list Financial Times.
Među varijantama koronavirusa koje trenutno najviše zabrinjavaju znanstvenike su tzv. britanska, južnoafrička i brazilska varijanta, koje se, čini se, šire mnogo brže od drugih.
"U prvoj i drugoj fazi ovom malog ispitivanja rani podaci pokazuju ograničenu učinkovitost protiv blage bolesti prije svega zbog južnoafričke varijante B.1.351", kazao je glasnogovornik AstraZenece upitan o izvješću Financial Timesa.
Prema listu nijedan od više od 2000 sudionika ispitivanja nije hospitaliziran ili umro.
"Još ne možemo primjereno ocijeniti učinkovitost cjepiva protiv teškog oblika bolesti i hospitalizacija s obzirom na to da su ispitanici uglavnom mlade i zdrave odrasle osobe", kazao je glasnogovornik AstraZenece.
Tvrtka vjeruje da njezino cjepivo može štititi protiv teškog oblika bolesti jer je neutralizirajuća aktivnost antititijela jednaka drugim cjepivima protiv COVID-19 koja su pokazala zaštitu protiv teškog oblika bolesti.
Ispitivanje koje je obuhvatilo 2026 osoba od kojih je polovica činila kontrolnu skupinu nije još recenzirano.
Iako se pojavilo na tisuće pojedinačnih promjena s mutacijama virusa u nove varijante tek manji dio mogao bi biti značajan ili promijeniti virus na primjetan način, prema časopisu British Medical Journal.
"Sveučilište Oxford i AstraZeneca počeli su prilagođavati cjepivo toj varijanti i brzo će proći klinički razvoj tako da bude najesen spremno za distribuciju", kazao je glasnogovornik AstraZenece.
U petak, Oxford je objavio da cjepivo ima protiv britanske varijante sličnu učinkovitost kao i kod ranijih varijanti virusa.
Kako smo već javljali, pitanja koja se postavljaju oko cjepiva AstraZenece vezana uz njihovu učinkovitost kod starijih od 65 godina razlog su što su neke zemlje poput Norveške, Švedske, Finske, Njemačke i Danske odlučile da dok ne dobiju čvršće dokaze o učinkovitosti tog cjepiva za starije, ono će biti rezervirano za mlađe od 65 ili čak 55 godina.
