Nakon novog istraživanja tisuće muškaraca s rakom prostate u uznapredovalom stadiju više neće morati ići na kemoterapiju. Naime, studija provedena na 2261 osoba, čije je istraživanje financira udruga za rak prostate u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, otkrila je kako se dovoljno služiti hormonskom terapijom bez negativnog utjecaja na zdravlje. Liječnici će tako moći liječiti pametnije, piše britanski The Times.

Muškarci koji su sudjelovali u istraživanju imali su metastatski rak prostate – zloćudne stanice proširile su se na druge dijelove tijela poput limfnih čvorova ili kostiju. Otkriće znači da će tisuće muškaraca biti pošteđene iscrpljujuće kemoterapije i nuspojava kao što su mučnina, čirevi u ustima i umor. Umjesto toga, liječit će se najsuvremenijim lijekovima za hormonsku terapiju, kao što je tableta enzalutamida, koji snižava razinu testosterona potrebnog stanicama raka prostate za rast.

Liječnici će također moći usmjeriti kemoterapiju na muškarce kojima je najpotrebnija, dajući im dragocjeno dodatno vrijeme s voljenima. Studija je pokazala da je kemoterapija povećala petogodišnje preživljavanje za 39 posto kod muškaraca s velikim tumorima.

- Ovo je stvarno uzbudljivo jer pokazuje kako točno možemo izvući najviše iz postojećih tretmana raka prostate. Posljednjih je godina odobreno mnogo novih tretmana za rak prostate, ali još uvijek puno toga ne znamo o tome kako oni međusobno djeluju i tko ima najviše koristi – rekla je dr. Hayley Luxton, voditeljica istraživanja iz udruge Prostate Cancer UK. Dodala je da sve manje muškaraca prima kemoterapiju zbog njezinog štetnog utjecaja na imunitet, ali da je ova studija pokazala kako nekima nije potrebna iako je trenutno standardna opcija liječenja.

Njezina suradnica, dr. Claire Vale, navela je kako su istraživanja novih tretmana liječenja raka prostate skupa i dugotrajna, a saznanja do kojih su došli mogu prilikom liječenja nekome značiti život ili smrt.

- Iznimno je rijetko pronaći tako jasne veze između karakteristika pacijenta i koliko će njihovo liječenje biti učinkovito. U ovom slučaju, dokazi su jasni i želimo biti sigurni da će što prije biti uključeni u kliničku praksu – objasnila je dr. Vale

Hormonska terapija pokazala se uspješnom za Johna Swaynea (59). Karcinom mu je dijagnosticiran 2019. godine, a liječnici su mu odmah obznanili da ima otprilike dvije godine života. Nisu bili u pravu. Nakon što je primio šest rundi terapije, za koje navodi da su ga u potpunosti izmoždile, na kraju se odlučio na liječenje hormonskim lijekom bikulatumidom koji pije jednom dnevno. Tri godine poslije život mu se vratio u normalu.

- Unuka mi je stara 11 mjeseci i kćer mi se udaje ove godine. Nisam mislio da ću doživjeti obje stvari kad sam dobio dijagnozu. Imam još toliko razloga za živjeti – prokomentirao je John Swayne.

Osim uspješnosti terapije hormonima, studija je proučavala i prednosti kemoterapije docetakselom na oboljelima koji su u prosjeku praćeni šest godina. Sveukupno, oni s uznapredovalim rakom prostate koji su primali kemoterapiju imali su 10 posto veću vjerojatnost da će preživjeti pet godina kasnije. Međutim, prednosti kemoterapije uvelike su varirale ovisno o tome koliko je tumor bio velik i koliko su metastaza - mjesta na koja se rak proširio - imali. To će se sada uzeti u obzir pri odlučivanju hoće li pacijentima dati kemoterapiju ili ne, piše u The Timesu.

Nakon novog istraživanja tisuće muškaraca s rakom prostate u uznapredovalom stadiju više neće morati ići na kemoterapiju. Naime, studija provedena na 2261 osoba, čije je istraživanje financira udruga za rak prostate u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, otkrila je kako se dovoljno služiti hormonskom terapijom bez negativnog utjecaja na zdravlje. Liječnici će tako moći liječiti pametnije, piše britanski The Times.

Muškarci koji su sudjelovali u istraživanju imali su metastatski rak prostate – zloćudne stanice proširile su se na druge dijelove tijela poput limfnih čvorova ili kostiju. Otkriće znači da će tisuće muškaraca biti pošteđene iscrpljujuće kemoterapije i nuspojava kao što su mučnina, čirevi u ustima i umor. Umjesto toga, liječit će se najsuvremenijim lijekovima za hormonsku terapiju, kao što je tableta enzalutamida, koji snižava razinu testosterona potrebnog stanicama raka prostate za rast.

Liječnici će također moći usmjeriti kemoterapiju na muškarce kojima je najpotrebnija, dajući im dragocjeno dodatno vrijeme s voljenima. Studija je pokazala da je kemoterapija povećala petogodišnje preživljavanje za 39 posto kod muškaraca s velikim tumorima.

- Ovo je stvarno uzbudljivo jer pokazuje kako točno možemo izvući najviše iz postojećih tretmana raka prostate. Posljednjih je godina odobreno mnogo novih tretmana za rak prostate, ali još uvijek puno toga ne znamo o tome kako oni međusobno djeluju i tko ima najviše koristi – rekla je dr. Hayley Luxton, voditeljica istraživanja iz udruge Prostate Cancer UK. Dodala je da sve manje muškaraca prima kemoterapiju zbog njezinog štetnog utjecaja na imunitet, ali da je ova studija pokazala kako nekima nije potrebna iako je trenutno standardna opcija liječenja.

Njezina suradnica, dr. Claire Vale, navela je kako su istraživanja novih tretmana liječenja raka prostate skupa i dugotrajna, a saznanja do kojih su došli mogu prilikom liječenja nekome značiti život ili smrt.

- Iznimno je rijetko pronaći tako jasne veze između karakteristika pacijenta i koliko će njihovo liječenje biti učinkovito. U ovom slučaju, dokazi su jasni i želimo biti sigurni da će što prije biti uključeni u kliničku praksu – objasnila je dr. Vale

Hormonska terapija pokazala se uspješnom za Johna Swaynea (59). Karcinom mu je dijagnosticiran 2019. godine, a liječnici su mu odmah obznanili da ima otprilike dvije godine života. Nisu bili u pravu. Nakon što je primio šest rundi terapije, za koje navodi da su ga u potpunosti izmoždile, na kraju se odlučio na liječenje hormonskim lijekom bikulatumidom koji pije jednom dnevno. Osim uspješnosti terapije hormonima, studija je proučavala i prednosti kemoterapije docetakselom na oboljelima koji su u prosjeku praćeni šest godina. Sveukupno, oni s uznapredovalim rakom prostate koji su primali kemoterapiju imali su 10 posto veću vjerojatnost da će preživjeti pet godina kasnije. Međutim, prednosti kemoterapije uvelike su varirale ovisno o tome koliko je tumor bio velik i koliko su metastaza - mjesta na koja se rak proširio - imali. To će se sada uzeti u obzir pri odlučivanju hoće li pacijentima dati kemoterapiju ili ne, piše u The Timesu.

Kemoterapija bi za jednu vrstu karcinoma mogla postati prošlost: ‘U ovom slučaju dokazi su jasni‘

Nakon novog istraživanja tisuće muškaraca s rakom prostate u uznapredovalom stadiju više neće morati ići na kemoterapiju. Naime, studija provedena na 2261 osoba, čije je istraživanje financira udruga za rak prostate u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, otkrila je kako se dovoljno služiti hormonskom terapijom bez negativnog utjecaja na zdravlje. Liječnici će tako moći liječiti pametnije, piše britanski The Times.

Muškarci koji su sudjelovali u istraživanju imali su metastatski rak prostate – zloćudne stanice proširile su se na druge dijelove tijela poput limfnih čvorova ili kostiju. Otkriće znači da će tisuće muškaraca biti pošteđene iscrpljujuće kemoterapije i nuspojava kao što su mučnina, čirevi u ustima i umor. Umjesto toga, liječit će se najsuvremenijim lijekovima za hormonsku terapiju, kao što je tableta enzalutamida, koji snižava razinu testosterona potrebnog stanicama raka prostate za rast.

Liječnici će također moći usmjeriti kemoterapiju na muškarce kojima je najpotrebnija, dajući im dragocjeno dodatno vrijeme s voljenima. Studija je pokazala da je kemoterapija povećala petogodišnje preživljavanje za 39 posto kod muškaraca s velikim tumorima.

- Ovo je stvarno uzbudljivo jer pokazuje kako točno možemo izvući najviše iz postojećih tretmana raka prostate. Posljednjih je godina odobreno mnogo novih tretmana za rak prostate, ali još uvijek puno toga ne znamo o tome kako oni međusobno djeluju i tko ima najviše koristi – rekla je dr. Hayley Luxton, voditeljica istraživanja iz udruge Prostate Cancer UK. Dodala je da sve manje muškaraca prima kemoterapiju zbog njezinog štetnog utjecaja na imunitet, ali da je ova studija pokazala kako nekima nije potrebna iako je trenutno standardna opcija liječenja.

Njezina suradnica, dr. Claire Vale, navela je kako su istraživanja novih tretmana liječenja raka prostate skupa i dugotrajna, a saznanja do kojih su došli mogu prilikom liječenja nekome značiti život ili smrt.

- Iznimno je rijetko pronaći tako jasne veze između karakteristika pacijenta i koliko će njihovo liječenje biti učinkovito. U ovom slučaju, dokazi su jasni i želimo biti sigurni da će što prije biti uključeni u kliničku praksu – objasnila je dr. Vale

Hormonska terapija pokazala se uspješnom za Johna Swaynea (59). Karcinom mu je dijagnosticiran 2019. godine, a liječnici su mu odmah obznanili da ima otprilike dvije godine života. Nisu bili u pravu. Nakon što je primio šest rundi terapije, za koje navodi da su ga u potpunosti izmoždile, na kraju se odlučio na liječenje hormonskim lijekom bikulatumidom koji pije jednom dnevno. Tri godine poslije život mu se vratio u normalu.
