Zamjena za šećer pod nazivom eritritol povezana je s poremećajem zgrušavanja krvi, moždanim udarom, infarktom i smrću, prema novoj studiji koju je prenio CNN.
"Stupanj rizika nije bio mali", rekao je vodeći autor studije dr. Stanley Hazen, direktor Centra za kardiovaskularnu dijagnostiku i prevenciju na Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute.
Osobe koje već imaju faktore rizika za srčane bolesti, poput dijabetesa, imale su dvostruko veću vjerojatnost da će doživjeti srčani ili moždani udar ako su imale najviše razine eritritola u krvi, prema studiji objavljenoj u ponedjeljak u časopisu Nature Medicine.
"Ako je vaša razina eritritola u krvi u gornjih 25 posto u usporedbi s najnižih 25 posto, postoji oko dva puta veći rizik od srčanog i moždanog udara. To je u rangu s najjačim srčanim čimbenicima rizika, poput dijabetesa," rekao je Hazen.
Dodatna laboratorijska istraživanja i istraživanja na životinjama otkrila su da bi eritritol mogao uzrokovati brže zgrušavanje krvi. Ugrušci se mogu odvojiti i otputovati u srce, izazivajući srčani udar, ili u mozak, izazivajući moždani udar.

Kao odgovor na studiju, Calorie Control Council, industrijska udruga, rekla je za CNN da su "rezultati ove studije u suprotnosti s desetljećima znanstvenih istraživanja koja pokazuju da su zaslađivači s niskim sadržajem kalorija poput eritritola sigurni, što je dokazano globalnim regulatornim dozvolama za njihovu upotrebu u hrani i pićima", rekao je Robert Rankin, izvršni direktor vijeća, u e-poruci.
Europska udruga proizvođača poliola odbila je komentirati, rekavši da nije pregledala studiju.
Poput sorbitola i ksilitola, eritritol je šećerni alkohol, ugljikohidrat koji se prirodno nalazi u mnogo voća i povrća. Ima oko 70 posto slatkoće šećera i smatra se nekalorijskim dodatkom, prema stručnjacima.
Umjetno proizveden, ne povećava šećer u krvi i ima manji laksativni učinak od nekih drugih šećernih alkohola.

Zamjena za šećer pod nazivom eritritol povezana je s poremećajem zgrušavanja krvi, moždanim udarom, infarktom i smrću, prema novoj studiji koju je prenio CNN.
"Stupanj rizika nije bio mali", rekao je vodeći autor studije dr. Stanley Hazen, direktor Centra za kardiovaskularnu dijagnostiku i prevenciju na Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute.
Osobe koje već imaju faktore rizika za srčane bolesti, poput dijabetesa, imale su dvostruko veću vjerojatnost da će doživjeti srčani ili moždani udar ako su imale najviše razine eritritola u krvi, prema studiji objavljenoj u ponedjeljak u časopisu Nature Medicine.
"Ako je vaša razina eritritola u krvi u gornjih 25 posto u usporedbi s najnižih 25 posto, postoji oko dva puta veći rizik od srčanog i moždanog udara. To je u rangu s najjačim srčanim čimbenicima rizika, poput dijabetesa," rekao je Hazen.
Dodatna laboratorijska istraživanja i istraživanja na životinjama otkrila su da bi eritritol mogao uzrokovati brže zgrušavanje krvi. Ugrušci se mogu odvojiti i otputovati u srce, izazivajući srčani udar, ili u mozak, izazivajući moždani udar.
"To svakako zvuči alarmantno", rekao je dr. Andrew Freeman, direktor kardiovaskularne prevencije u National Jewish Health, bolnici u Denveru, koji nije bio uključen u istraživanje.
"Čini se da postoji rizik od poremećaja zgrušavanja zbog korištenja eritritola", rekao je Freeman.
"Očito je potrebno više istraživanja, ali uz obilje opreza, možda bi imalo smisla ograničiti eritritol u vašoj prehrani za sada."

Kao odgovor na studiju, Calorie Control Council, industrijska udruga, rekla je za CNN da su "rezultati ove studije u suprotnosti s desetljećima znanstvenih istraživanja koja pokazuju da su zaslađivači s niskim sadržajem kalorija poput eritritola sigurni, što je dokazano globalnim regulatornim dozvolama za njihovu upotrebu u hrani i pićima", rekao je Robert Rankin, izvršni direktor vijeća, u e-poruci.
Europska udruga proizvođača poliola odbila je komentirati, rekavši da nije pregledala studiju.
Poput sorbitola i ksilitola, eritritol je šećerni alkohol, ugljikohidrat koji se prirodno nalazi u mnogo voća i povrća. Ima oko 70 posto slatkoće šećera i smatra se nekalorijskim dodatkom, prema stručnjacima.
Umjetno proizveden, ne povećava šećer u krvi i ima manji laksativni učinak od nekih drugih šećernih alkohola.
"Eritritol izgleda poput šećera, ima okus po šećeru i s njim možete peći kolače", kaže Hazen, koji također vodi Centar za mikrobiom i ljudsko zdravlje klinike Cleveland.
"Postao je ljubimac prehrambene industrije, iznimno popularan dodatak keto i drugim proizvodima i hrani s niskim udjelom ugljikohidrata koji se prodaje osobama s dijabetesom", dodao je.
Otkriće veze između eritritola i kardiovaskularnih problema bilo je slučajno, rekao je Hazen: "To nismo očekivali. Nismo je ni tražili."
