Omikron varijanta koronavirusa možda će donijeti i kraj pandemije, kazala je jedna od vodećih danskih zdravstvenih dužnosnica, piše Independent.
Tyra Grove Krause, voditeljica Statens Serum Instituta (SSI) - danskog ekvivalenta Zavoda za javno zdravstvo - kaže da smo možda u posljednjem valu pandemije jer bi brojne infekcije omikronom mogle osigurati dobru razinu kolektivnog imuniteta.
Kaže kako će covid i u iduća dva mjeseca igrati važnu ulogu u životima ljudi, no broj novozaraženih bi tada trebao početi padati.
Na pitanje koliko će još dugo virus utjecati na živote Danaca, Krause je rekla: 'Mislim da će to još trajati oko dva mjeseca, no onda će se broj zaraženih početi smanjivati i moći ćemo se vratiti našim normalnim životima.'
Dodala je i da 'će nas ovo možda izvući iz pandemije jer je ovo možda posljednji val.'
Izvješće SSI-a objavljeno u ponedjeljak sugerira da je rizik od hospitalizacije prilikom zaraze omikron varijantom otprilike dvostruko manji nego kod zaraze deltom. To se donekle poklapa s ranijim studijama koje su pokazale da je rizik kod omikrona samo jednu trećinu od rizika kod delte.
No Krause je, govoreći za danski program TV 2, kazala kako će zdravstveni sustav u idućim tjednima i dalje biti pod pritiskom, unatoč manjem riziku.
'Omikron će biti na vrhuncu krajem siječnja, a u veljači ćemo vidjeti smanjenje broja novozaraženih i manji pritisak na zdravstvo. No u siječnju se još moramo paziti i bit će teško proći kroz to razdoblje.'
Studija, koja još mora proći recenziju, također pruža uvid u to zašto je omikron toliko zarazan.
Sugerira se da se virus brže širi jer je uspješniji u zaobilaženju imuniteta stečenog cijepljenjem.
Znanstvenici su tijekom prosinca ispitali oko 12.000 danskih kućanstava i ustanovili da je kod cijepljenih omikron od 2,7 do 3,7 puta zarazniji od delta varijante.
Studija također sugerira da je omikron zarazniji, no izaziva lakša oboljenja, što su znanstvenici i pretpostavljali kad se u studenom pojavila nova varijanta.
Autori studije, osim toga, su kazali: 'Omikron će ostati ovdje i uzrokovat će snažno širenje zaraze u sljedećem mjesecu. No kad bude gotovo, bit ćemo u boljoj situaciji nego ranije.'
Tvrdnje gospođe Krause prate pozitivne procjene koje je iznio WHO-ov čelnik Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus koji je za Novu godinu rekao: 'Šansa da preokrenemo ovu pandemiju nadohvat nam je ruke.'
No upozorio je da će neravnomjerna distribucija cjepiva možda prooduljiti pandemiju, prenosi Jutarnji list.
'Što ta nejednakost bude dulje trajala, veća je vjerojatnost da će virus u nove varijante mutirati na način koji nećemo moći predvidjeti ili spriječiti. Ako zaustavimo nejednakost, zaustavit ćemo i pandemiju.'

Omikron varijanta koronavirusa možda će donijeti i kraj pandemije, kazala je jedna od vodećih danskih zdravstvenih dužnosnica, piše Independent.
Tyra Grove Krause, voditeljica Statens Serum Instituta (SSI) - danskog ekvivalenta Zavoda za javno zdravstvo - kaže da smo možda u posljednjem valu pandemije jer bi brojne infekcije omikronom mogle osigurati dobru razinu kolektivnog imuniteta.
Kaže kako će covid i u iduća dva mjeseca igrati važnu ulogu u životima ljudi, no broj novozaraženih bi tada trebao početi padati.
Na pitanje koliko će još dugo virus utjecati na živote Danaca, Krause je rekla: 'Mislim da će to još trajati oko dva mjeseca, no onda će se broj zaraženih početi smanjivati i moći ćemo se vratiti našim normalnim životima.'
Dodala je i da 'će nas ovo možda izvući iz pandemije jer je ovo možda posljednji val.'
Izvješće SSI-a objavljeno u ponedjeljak sugerira da je rizik od hospitalizacije prilikom zaraze omikron varijantom otprilike dvostruko manji nego kod zaraze deltom. To se donekle poklapa s ranijim studijama koje su pokazale da je rizik kod omikrona samo jednu trećinu od rizika kod delte.
No Krause je, govoreći za danski program TV 2, kazala kako će zdravstveni sustav u idućim tjednima i dalje biti pod pritiskom, unatoč manjem riziku.
'Omikron će biti na vrhuncu krajem siječnja, a u veljači ćemo vidjeti smanjenje broja novozaraženih i manji pritisak na zdravstvo. No u siječnju se još moramo paziti i bit će teško proći kroz to razdoblje.'
Studija, koja još mora proći recenziju, također pruža uvid u to zašto je omikron toliko zarazan.
Sugerira se da se virus brže širi jer je uspješniji u zaobilaženju imuniteta stečenog cijepljenjem.
Znanstvenici su tijekom prosinca ispitali oko 12.000 danskih kućanstava i ustanovili da je kod cijepljenih omikron od 2,7 do 3,7 puta zarazniji od delta varijante.
Studija također sugerira da je omikron zarazniji, no izaziva lakša oboljenja, što su znanstvenici i pretpostavljali kad se u studenom pojavila nova varijanta.
Autori studije, osim toga, su kazali: 'Omikron će ostati ovdje i uzrokovat će snažno širenje zaraze u sljedećem mjesecu. No kad bude gotovo, bit ćemo u boljoj situaciji nego ranije.'
Tvrdnje gospođe Krause prate pozitivne procjene koje je iznio WHO-ov čelnik Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus koji je za Novu godinu rekao: 'Šansa da preokrenemo ovu pandemiju nadohvat nam je ruke.'
No upozorio je da će neravnomjerna distribucija cjepiva možda prooduljiti pandemiju, prenosi Jutarnji list.
'Što ta nejednakost bude dulje trajala, veća je vjerojatnost da će virus u nove varijante mutirati na način koji nećemo moći predvidjeti ili spriječiti. Ako zaustavimo nejednakost, zaustavit ćemo i pandemiju.'
