Može zvučati nevjerojatno, ali “Ego protiv ega” (“Official Competition”) prvi je film s dvije ponajveće španjolske glumačke zvijezde u glavnim ulogama – Penelope Cruz i Antoniom Banderasom. Iako Banderas i Cruz slove za “kućne glumce” Pedra Almodovara, redatelja “Kože u kojoj živim” i “Paralelnih majki”, čuveni filmaš samo ih je dvaput angažirao u istom filmu, no nijednom u glavnim ulogama.

Prvi put su se nakratko pojavili pred kamerama (“Putnici ljubavnici”), a drugi (“Tuga i slava”) Cruz je igrala majku mlađe inačice Banderasova lika, stoga nisu podijelili ekran. Kad Banderasa i Cruz nije istinski ujedinio Almodovar ili neki drugi španjolski redatelj, to su napravili Argentinci Mariano Cohn i Gastón Duprat u “Egu protiv ega”, komediji premijerno prikazanoj na Venecijanskom festivalu, koja igra u hrvatskim kinima od 24. ožujka.

Glumci kao da su jedva (do)čekali da glume zajedno i uživaju u svakoj zajedničkoj sceni, podjednako raspoloženi za glumačka dodavanja i verbalne sparinge. Međutim, ono što su mnogi fanovi zasigurno zamišljali unatrag 20 godina gledajući njihove pojedinačne (Almodovarove) filmove – da se poljube i završe u zagrljaju, barem pred kamerama – ipak se neće dogoditi, barem ne u potpunosti.

Jer “Official Competition” je komedija bez prefiksa “romantična”. Naprotiv, pristaje joj prefiks “metafilmska” i “satirična” s obzirom na to da se suptilno izruguje glumi, glumcima i svijetu pretencioznih art-filmova i snobovskim filmsko-festivalskim krugovima. Priča počinje kad 80-godišnji farmaceutski magnat Humberto Suarez (Jose Luis Gomez; Almodovarovi “Slomljeni zagrljaji”) odluči ostaviti neki trajniji trag iza sebe kao njegovo definitivno nasljeđe i financirati neki film.

Naravno, to ne bi bio bilo koji film, već film za festivale i nagrade, s vrhunskim redateljem i glumcima “A” liste. ”O čemu bi bio”, Humberta pita savjetnik (Manolo Solo; nedavno viđen u “Velikom gazdi”). ”Što ja znam”, sliježe ramenima Humberto. Izbor pada na ekranizaciju knjige nekog “nobelovca” koju, dakako, Humberto nije ni pročitao.

Dramu o dvojici rivalske braće režirat će vodeća “art-house” redateljica današnjice i miljenica kritičara, ekscentrična Lola Cuevas (Cruz), a za glavne uloge su angažirane sušte suprotnosti – zvjezdani Španjolac s međunarodnom/hollywoodskom karijerom, egocentrični Felix Rivero (Banderas), te karakterni glumac/Argentinac sa španjolskom adresom Ivan Torres (Oscar Martinez; “Divlje priče”).

Dok Banderas i Martinez igraju nekakve verzije samih sebe, tj. vlastitih filmskih persona, Cruz je svojevrsni supstitut za neku art filmašicu festivalskih tendencija poput Claire Denis (“Misija: Duboki svemir”) ili Julije Ducournau (“Titan”). Najveći dio solidno zabavnog i pametnog filma otpada na Loline, Felixove i Ivanove nerijetko urnebesne pripreme za snimanje, počevši od čitanja scenarija, prožete rječkanjem, ispoljavanjem frustracija, frontalnim sudaranjem velikih ega na temu tko je bolji glumac.

Kako bi izvukla emotivni maksimum od glumaca, Lola želi da Ivan ponavlja frazu “dobra večer” sve dok je ne izgovori kako je ona zamislila, a od Felixa traži da postepeno pojačava glumljenu razinu pijanstva “od 1 do 10” (tri, pet...), što Banderas izvodi s lakoćom, glumački preporođen nakon recentne Oscar nominacije za “Pain and Glory”.

Banderas je prčevit kao nekoć, ali na glumački sazreli način. Martinez je prepoznatljivo smireniji u ulozi ozbiljnoga europskoga glumca koji tvrdi kako prezire komercijalizam, Oscare i Hollywood da bi sam sa sobom, pred zrcalom, kad ga nitko ne gleda, vježbao oskarovski govor, prihvaćajući zlatni kipić samo da bi ga se, kao, odrekao. Vrhunac priprema dolazi u trenutku kad Lola postavi glumce ispod goleme stijene koja im visi nad glavama.

Pripreme znaju biti kreativne (poljupci ispred mikrofona) i samosvrhovite, a odvijaju se u arhitektonski svedenoj, no svejedno “šik” mizansceni dominantnog “art-house” štiha, budući da duo Cohn-Duprat snima “Ego protiv ega” na metafilmski način, kao namigujući festivalski film unutar festivalskog filma s komercijalnim zvijezdama u glavnim ulogama. Svedeni minimalizam u scenografiji (i broju likova) nivelira zvjezdani maksimalizam glumaca. “Official Competition” može biti prijemčiv i ljubiteljima repertoarnog, ne samo festivalskog filma.

Cruz i Bardem

Cruz je više puta igrala glavn(ij)e uloge sa svojim životnim partnerom Javierom Bardemom, od "Šunka, šunka", preko "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" do "Voleći Pabla" i "Svi znaju sve", a glumili su zajedno i u "Savjetniku".

Može zvučati nevjerojatno, ali “Ego protiv ega” (“Official Competition”) prvi je film s dvije ponajveće španjolske glumačke zvijezde u glavnim ulogama – Penelope Cruz i Antoniom Banderasom. Iako Banderas i Cruz slove za “kućne glumce” Pedra Almodovara, redatelja “Kože u kojoj živim” i “Paralelnih majki”, čuveni filmaš samo ih je dvaput angažirao u istom filmu, no nijednom u glavnim ulogama.

Prvi put su se nakratko pojavili pred kamerama (“Putnici ljubavnici”), a drugi (“Tuga i slava”) Cruz je igrala majku mlađe inačice Banderasova lika, stoga nisu podijelili ekran. Kad Banderasa i Cruz nije istinski ujedinio Almodovar ili neki drugi španjolski redatelj, to su napravili Argentinci Mariano Cohn i Gastón Duprat u “Egu protiv ega”, komediji premijerno prikazanoj na Venecijanskom festivalu, koja igra u hrvatskim kinima od 24. ožujka.

Glumci kao da su jedva (do)čekali da glume zajedno i uživaju u svakoj zajedničkoj sceni, podjednako raspoloženi za glumačka dodavanja i verbalne sparinge. Međutim, ono što su mnogi fanovi zasigurno zamišljali unatrag 20 godina gledajući njihove pojedinačne (Almodovarove) filmove – da se poljube i završe u zagrljaju, barem pred kamerama – ipak se neće dogoditi, barem ne u potpunosti.

Jer “Official Competition” je komedija bez prefiksa “romantična”. Naprotiv, pristaje joj prefiks “metafilmska” i “satirična” s obzirom na to da se suptilno izruguje glumi, glumcima i svijetu pretencioznih art-filmova i snobovskim filmsko-festivalskim krugovima. Priča počinje kad 80-godišnji farmaceutski magnat Humberto Suarez (Jose Luis Gomez; Almodovarovi “Slomljeni zagrljaji”) odluči ostaviti neki trajniji trag iza sebe kao njegovo definitivno nasljeđe i financirati neki film.

Naravno, to ne bi bio bilo koji film, već film za festivale i nagrade, s vrhunskim redateljem i glumcima “A” liste. ”O čemu bi bio”, Humberta pita savjetnik (Manolo Solo; nedavno viđen u “Velikom gazdi”). ”Što ja znam”, sliježe ramenima Humberto. Izbor pada na ekranizaciju knjige nekog “nobelovca” koju, dakako, Humberto nije ni pročitao.

Dramu o dvojici rivalske braće režirat će vodeća “art-house” redateljica današnjice i miljenica kritičara, ekscentrična Lola Cuevas (Cruz), a za glavne uloge su angažirane sušte suprotnosti – zvjezdani Španjolac s međunarodnom/hollywoodskom karijerom, egocentrični Felix Rivero (Banderas), te karakterni glumac/Argentinac sa španjolskom adresom Ivan Torres (Oscar Martinez; “Divlje priče”).

Dok Banderas i Martinez igraju nekakve verzije samih sebe, tj. vlastitih filmskih persona, Cruz je svojevrsni supstitut za neku art filmašicu festivalskih tendencija poput Claire Denis (“Misija: Duboki svemir”) ili Julije Ducournau (“Titan”). Najveći dio solidno zabavnog i pametnog filma otpada na Loline, Felixove i Ivanove nerijetko urnebesne pripreme za snimanje, počevši od čitanja scenarija, prožete rječkanjem, ispoljavanjem frustracija, frontalnim sudaranjem velikih ega na temu tko je bolji glumac.

Kako bi izvukla emotivni maksimum od glumaca, Lola želi da Ivan ponavlja frazu “dobra večer” sve dok je ne izgovori kako je ona zamislila, a od Felixa traži da postepeno pojačava glumljenu razinu pijanstva “od 1 do 10” (tri, pet...), što Banderas izvodi s lakoćom, glumački preporođen nakon recentne Oscar nominacije za “Pain and Glory”.

Banderas je prčevit kao nekoć, ali na glumački sazreli način. Martinez je prepoznatljivo smireniji u ulozi ozbiljnoga europskoga glumca koji tvrdi kako prezire komercijalizam, Oscare i Hollywood da bi sam sa sobom, pred zrcalom, kad ga nitko ne gleda, vježbao oskarovski govor, prihvaćajući zlatni kipić samo da bi ga se, kao, odrekao. Vrhunac priprema dolazi u trenutku kad Lola postavi glumce ispod goleme stijene koja im visi nad glavama.

Pripreme znaju biti kreativne (poljupci ispred mikrofona) i samosvrhovite, a odvijaju se u arhitektonski svedenoj, no svejedno “šik” mizansceni dominantnog “art-house” štiha, budući da duo Cohn-Duprat snima “Ego protiv ega” na metafilmski način, kao namigujući festivalski film unutar festivalskog filma s komercijalnim zvijezdama u glavnim ulogama. Svedeni minimalizam u scenografiji (i broju likova) nivelira zvjezdani maksimalizam glumaca. “Official Competition” može biti prijemčiv i ljubiteljima repertoarnog, ne samo festivalskog filma.

Cruz i Bardem

Cruz je više puta igrala glavn(ij)e uloge sa svojim životnim partnerom Javierom Bardemom, od "Šunka, šunka", preko "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" do "Voleći Pabla" i "Svi znaju sve", a glumili su zajedno i u "Savjetniku".
