Primajući Oscara za sporednu žensku ulogu u senzaciji "Sve u isto vrijeme", Jamie Lee Curtis se zahvalila "svim ljudima koji su podržavali žanrovske filmove koje sam snimala ovih godina, tisućama i stotinama tisuća ljudi". "Upravo smo zajedno osvojili Oscara", poručila je Jamie Lee ne skrivajući oduševljenje.

Curtis je, dakle, zlatni kipić posvetila obožavateljima (njezinih) žanrovskih filmova, između redaka i žanrovskim filmovima općenito, a ušla je u povijest kao prva Oscarom nagrađena glumica proslavljena hororima. Oscara je napokon dobila jedna kraljica vriska.

Izvanredna "Noć vještica" Johna Carpentera trasirala je 1978. njezinu žanrovsku karijeru i navijestila potencijalno novu zvijezdu horor filmova. No, Carpenterova "Magla" ("The Fog", 1980.) afirmirala je Jamie Lee kao u "scream queen" heroinu horora. Bio je to prvi i daleko najbolji od tri njezina filma strave iz iste godine (preostala dva su "Terror Train" i "Prom Night"), nakon čega je "Halloween II" bio logična stvar.

"Magla" je i prvi horor koji je stavio Curtis na plakat. Mogao je Carpenter staviti i Adrienne Barbeau ("Someone‘s Watching Me", "Escape From New York", "Swamp Thing") ili Jamieinu majku Janet Leigh, zvijezdu "Psiha" i "Dodira zla", ali stavio je baš nju. Tri gracije i generacije horora u jednom filmu, no samo je Curtis krasila poster za "The Fog".

Režiser i koscenarist Carpenter time je najavio zvijezdu u nastanku i zahvalio joj se za ulogu plahe srednjoškolke i bejbisiterice Laurie Strode, mete Michaela Myersa bez koje ne bi bilo "Noći vještica". Izjava njezinog lika u "Magli", "Ja donosim lošu sreću", djeluje namigujuće jer Jamie Lee je za Carpentera sve samo ne "bad luck".

Zanimljivo, ona glumi drukčiju protagonisticu od Laurie – autostopericu Elizabeth Solley. Elizabeth će jedne večeri ustopirati stanovnika obalnog gradića Antonio Bay u Sjevernoj Kaliforniji Nicka Castlea (Tom Atkins) i završiti s njim u krevetu nakon što stakla na njegovu kamionetu neobjašnjivo popucaju.

Nema šanse da bi Laurie stopirala, kamoli spavala sa strancem, ali Elizabeth to radi i njezin promiskuitet će neposredno biti kažnjen kad gradić opsjedne magla s duhovima mrtvih mornara naoružanih ribarskim kukama i sabljama, ništa manje ubojitim od Myersa i naizgled jednako nezaustavljivim.

Između "The Fog" i "Halloween" postoje određene sličnosti. Oba filma imaju osjećaja za ljudske likove iz male zajednice (ovdje se najviše izdvajaju Elizabeth, Nick, te radijska DJ-ica Stevie Wayne, gradonačelnica Kathy Williams i svećenik Patrick Malone u tumačenju dojmljive Barbeau, Leigh i Hala Holbrooka), a odvijaju se u malim mirnim američkim mjestima pod prijetnjom nečeg natprirodnog.

No, "Magla" je drukčiji tip horora, košmarno-snolika priča o duhovima, misterija na rubu mita i legende, ne puki "slasher". Citat Edgara Allana Poea "Je li sve što vidimo ili nam se čini samo san u snu?" otvara film nakon čega slijedi krupni kadar sata u ruci starog morskog vuka, mr. Machena (John Houseman), koji pokazuje 23.55, taman za još jednu priču klincima pored logorske vatre uz more pet minuta prije nego otkuca ponoć.

Atmosfera je pogođeno "spooky" i samo raste kad krene priča o brodolomu jedrenjaka 21. travnja prije 100 godina nakon što je noć obavila gusta magla od koje se ništa nije vidjelo. Najednom se svjetlo u daljini probilo kroz maglu. Vatra je gorjela na obali. Mornari su pomislili da je svjetionik, ali to je bila logorska vatra i jedrenjak se, slijedeći izvor svjetlosti, zabio u hridi i potonio zajedno s posadom ispred gradića Antonio Bay.

"Kad se magla vrati u Antonio Bay, ljudi s dna mora će ustati u potragu za vatrom koja ih je odvela u smrt", pripovijeda mr. Machen netom prije proslave stotog rođendana gradića izgrađena na laži. Osnivači Antonio Baya, doznat ćemo kasnije, namjerno su odveli u smrt mornare koje je predvodio bogataš zaražen gubom i tražio novo mjesto za koloniju gubavaca, da bi s njihovim novcem sagradili gradić. Grijesi osnivača dolaze na naplatu njihovim potomcima.

Ominozna atmosfera, uspostavljena u uvodu, nastavlja se kad prođe ponoć i Antonio Bay zadesi neobična pojava. Artikli u marketu se tresu, svjetla se najednom pale na benzinskoj crpki i pumpa toči gorivo u prazno... u nizu spielbergovskih prizora. Uz vlastitu "Noć vještica" Carpenter kao da se ugledao na Spielbergove "Ralje" i "Bliske susrete treće vrste" u scenama kad se magla približava obali poput morskog psa, radio se najednom sam pali i gasi itd.

"The Fog" je jedan od najatmosferičnijih horora ikad i ogledni primjer bildanja (maglovitog) ugođaja nauštrb krvoprolića. Magla izgleda kao stvorenje, biće s vlastitom voljom koje, poput Myersa, neće stati dok ne obavi što mora. "Nešto je drukčije s ovom maglom", čujemo. Jer, konačno, "nešto je u magli". Pod okriljem magle skrivaju se aveti mornara i lupaju kukom po vratima kuća. To je zvuk koji se ne zaboravlja tako lako, jednako kao i sirena za maglu, a i Carpenterova glazba.

Slike su još nezaboravnije. Pojava magle koja sjaji dok mili preko oceana i prikrada se gradiću naizgled odsječenom od ostatka Amerike spremna da ga proguta iznimno je upečatljiv prizor. Siluete mornara kako izviru iz magle s terminatorski svjetlećim crvenim očima spadaju među najbolje trenutke u Carpenterovu opusu. Nije "Magla" samo potvrdila Curtis kao kraljicu vriska. Potvrdila je i Carpentera kao kralja horora.

‘The Fog i ‘The Mist‘

"Magla" je zasigurno inspirirala "Pirate s Kariba", a Carpenter je u filmu odigrao i "cameo" ulogu. Godine 2005. snimljen je nepotrebni i slabašni remake filma "The Fog" u režiji Ruperta Wainwrighta u kojem su glumile Selma Blair i Maggie Grace. Tri godine kasnije snimljena je još jedna "Magla", ali to je odlični "The Mist", prema predlošku Stephena Kinga.

Primajući Oscara za sporednu žensku ulogu u senzaciji "Sve u isto vrijeme", Jamie Lee Curtis se zahvalila "svim ljudima koji su podržavali žanrovske filmove koje sam snimala ovih godina, tisućama i stotinama tisuća ljudi". "Upravo smo zajedno osvojili Oscara", poručila je Jamie Lee ne skrivajući oduševljenje.

Curtis je, dakle, zlatni kipić posvetila obožavateljima (njezinih) žanrovskih filmova, između redaka i žanrovskim filmovima općenito, a ušla je u povijest kao prva Oscarom nagrađena glumica proslavljena hororima. Oscara je napokon dobila jedna kraljica vriska.

Izvanredna "Noć vještica" Johna Carpentera trasirala je 1978. njezinu žanrovsku karijeru i navijestila potencijalno novu zvijezdu horor filmova. No, Carpenterova "Magla" ("The Fog", 1980.) afirmirala je Jamie Lee kao u "scream queen" heroinu horora. Bio je to prvi i daleko najbolji od tri njezina filma strave iz iste godine (preostala dva su "Terror Train" i "Prom Night"), nakon čega je "Halloween II" bio logična stvar.

"Magla" je i prvi horor koji je stavio Curtis na plakat. Mogao je Carpenter staviti i Adrienne Barbeau ("Someone‘s Watching Me", "Escape From New York", "Swamp Thing") ili Jamieinu majku Janet Leigh, zvijezdu "Psiha" i "Dodira zla", ali stavio je baš nju. Tri gracije i generacije horora u jednom filmu, no samo je Curtis krasila poster za "The Fog".

Režiser i koscenarist Carpenter time je najavio zvijezdu u nastanku i zahvalio joj se za ulogu plahe srednjoškolke i bejbisiterice Laurie Strode, mete Michaela Myersa bez koje ne bi bilo "Noći vještica". Izjava njezinog lika u "Magli", "Ja donosim lošu sreću", djeluje namigujuće jer Jamie Lee je za Carpentera sve samo ne "bad luck".

Zanimljivo, ona glumi drukčiju protagonisticu od Laurie – autostopericu Elizabeth Solley. Elizabeth će jedne večeri ustopirati stanovnika obalnog gradića Antonio Bay u Sjevernoj Kaliforniji Nicka Castlea (Tom Atkins) i završiti s njim u krevetu nakon što stakla na njegovu kamionetu neobjašnjivo popucaju.

Nema šanse da bi Laurie stopirala, kamoli spavala sa strancem, ali Elizabeth to radi i njezin promiskuitet će neposredno biti kažnjen kad gradić opsjedne magla s duhovima mrtvih mornara naoružanih ribarskim kukama i sabljama, ništa manje ubojitim od Myersa i naizgled jednako nezaustavljivim.

Između "The Fog" i "Halloween" postoje određene sličnosti. Oba filma imaju osjećaja za ljudske likove iz male zajednice (ovdje se najviše izdvajaju Elizabeth, Nick, te radijska DJ-ica Stevie Wayne, gradonačelnica Kathy Williams i svećenik Patrick Malone u tumačenju dojmljive Barbeau, Leigh i Hala Holbrooka), a odvijaju se u malim mirnim američkim mjestima pod prijetnjom nečeg natprirodnog.

No, "Magla" je drukčiji tip horora, košmarno-snolika priča o duhovima, misterija na rubu mita i legende, ne puki "slasher". Citat Edgara Allana Poea "Je li sve što vidimo ili nam se čini samo san u snu?" otvara film nakon čega slijedi krupni kadar sata u ruci starog morskog vuka, mr. Machena (John Houseman), koji pokazuje 23.55, taman za još jednu priču klincima pored logorske vatre uz more pet minuta prije nego otkuca ponoć.

Atmosfera je pogođeno "spooky" i samo raste kad krene priča o brodolomu jedrenjaka 21. travnja prije 100 godina nakon što je noć obavila gusta magla od koje se ništa nije vidjelo. Najednom se svjetlo u daljini probilo kroz maglu. Vatra je gorjela na obali. Mornari su pomislili da je svjetionik, ali to je bila logorska vatra i jedrenjak se, slijedeći izvor svjetlosti, zabio u hridi i potonio zajedno s posadom ispred gradića Antonio Bay.

"Kad se magla vrati u Antonio Bay, ljudi s dna mora će ustati u potragu za vatrom koja ih je odvela u smrt", pripovijeda mr. Machen netom prije proslave stotog rođendana gradića izgrađena na laži. Osnivači Antonio Baya, doznat ćemo kasnije, namjerno su odveli u smrt mornare koje je predvodio bogataš zaražen gubom i tražio novo mjesto za koloniju gubavaca, da bi s njihovim novcem sagradili gradić. Grijesi osnivača dolaze na naplatu njihovim potomcima.

Ominozna atmosfera, uspostavljena u uvodu, nastavlja se kad prođe ponoć i Antonio Bay zadesi neobična pojava. Artikli u marketu se tresu, svjetla se najednom pale na benzinskoj crpki i pumpa toči gorivo u prazno... u nizu spielbergovskih prizora. Uz vlastitu "Noć vještica" Carpenter kao da se ugledao na Spielbergove "Ralje" i "Bliske susrete treće vrste" u scenama kad se magla približava obali poput morskog psa, radio se najednom sam pali i gasi itd.

"The Fog" je jedan od najatmosferičnijih horora ikad i ogledni primjer bildanja (maglovitog) ugođaja nauštrb krvoprolića. Magla izgleda kao stvorenje, biće s vlastitom voljom koje, poput Myersa, neće stati dok ne obavi što mora. "Nešto je drukčije s ovom maglom", čujemo. Jer, konačno, "nešto je u magli". Pod okriljem magle skrivaju se aveti mornara i lupaju kukom po vratima kuća. To je zvuk koji se ne zaboravlja tako lako, jednako kao i sirena za maglu, a i Carpenterova glazba.

Slike su još nezaboravnije. Pojava magle koja sjaji dok mili preko oceana i prikrada se gradiću naizgled odsječenom od ostatka Amerike spremna da ga proguta iznimno je upečatljiv prizor. Siluete mornara kako izviru iz magle s terminatorski svjetlećim crvenim očima spadaju među najbolje trenutke u Carpenterovu opusu. Nije "Magla" samo potvrdila Curtis kao kraljicu vriska. Potvrdila je i Carpentera kao kralja horora.

‘The Fog i ‘The Mist‘

"Magla" je zasigurno inspirirala "Pirate s Kariba", a Carpenter je u filmu odigrao i "cameo" ulogu. Godine 2005. snimljen je nepotrebni i slabašni remake filma "The Fog" u režiji Ruperta Wainwrighta u kojem su glumile Selma Blair i Maggie Grace. Tri godine kasnije snimljena je još jedna "Magla", ali to je odlični "The Mist", prema predlošku Stephena Kinga.

Primajući Oscara za sporednu žensku ulogu u senzaciji "Sve u isto vrijeme", Jamie Lee Curtis se zahvalila "svim ljudima koji su podržavali žanrovske filmove koje sam snimala ovih godina, tisućama i stotinama tisuća ljudi". "Upravo smo zajedno osvojili Oscara", poručila je Jamie Lee ne skrivajući oduševljenje.

Curtis je, dakle, zlatni kipić posvetila obožavateljima (njezinih) žanrovskih filmova, između redaka i žanrovskim filmovima općenito, a ušla je u povijest kao prva Oscarom nagrađena glumica proslavljena hororima. Oscara je napokon dobila jedna kraljica vriska.
