Posvećenost 55-godišnje Halle Berry prilično je vidljiva ispred kamere Netflixova filma "Modrice" ("Bruised"), njezinog redateljskog prvijenca. Halle se pošteno pripremila za fizički zahtjevnu ulogu MMA borkinje i dala je cijelu sebe u scenama kad trenira i primjenjuje trening u kavezu.

Razina dedikacije je usporediva s Jakeom Gyllenhaalom u "Lijevom krošeu" ili Hilary Swank u "Djevojci od milijun dolara", uz tu razliku da su njih dvoje bili dosta mlađi od nje u vrijeme snimanja filmova (30 i 35 godina). Glumičina predanost je uistinu impresivna, posebice kad doznate da je slomila dva rebra na setu i nastavila snimati film u dvojnoj ulozi glumice i redateljice.

Međutim, pogrešno je misliti da su "Modrice" njezin "passion project" ili projekt iz strasti. Nije ona radila godinama na projektu koji je, prema scenariju Michelle Rosenfarb, izvorno bio zamišljen za Blake Lively pod režijom Nicka Cassavetesa. Ovo nije takav projekt.

No, jasno je što ju je primarno privuklo filmu: mogla se prepoznati u liku Jackie Justice i njezinoj borbi. Njezina karijera je bila jedna velika borba, naročito u prvoj fazi, tijekom devedesetih godina prošloog stoljeća ("Prljavi igraju prljavo"). Gubila je uloge zbog boje kože ("Slomljena strijela") ili nije čak ni smjela doći na audiciju ("Kad jaganjci utihnu").

Tek se početkom 2000-ih izborila za status zvijezde ("X-Men", "Swordfish", "Catwoman"), oskarovke ("Bal čudovišta") i Bond-djevojke ("Umri drugi dan"). Jednako tako, "Bruised" označava njezin povratak nezavisnim ostvarenjima i dramskim ulogama nakon niza blockbustera (nastavci "X-Mena", "Kingsman 2", "John Wick 3") i komercijalnih uradaka ("Poziv", "Otmica") s kakvima se predaleko odmakla od Oscara.

Film je trebao Halle da povrati dramski, oskarovski legitimitet pomoću Berry iza kamere, da deglamurizira zvjezdani sjaj i odigra lik od krvi, mesa i modrica. I tu dolazimo do problema filma koji je mogao biti ženski "Rocky Balboa" iz MMA svijeta ili "Žena-mačka od milijun dolara".

Naime, Halle se iz petnih žila trudi glumački vratiti u dramski, "indie", oskarovski ring, a redateljica Berry pretjeruje da to omogući i odlazi u "full retard" smjeru, kako bi rekao lik Roberta Downeyja Jr-a u "Tropskoj grmljavini". Nije dosta da je Justice stara i poražena MMA borkinja koja se samosažaljeva godinama nakon poraza, okrenula se piću i skriva alkohol u plastičnim bocama sredstava za čišćenje s pumpicom, budući da sada zarađuje za život kao čistačica tuđih stanova.

Justice živi s momkom/ menadžerom nasilničkih tendencija, Desijem (Adan Canto) i ima nategnut odnos s drogiranom majkom (Adriane Lenox) koja je zažmirila na njezino zlostavljanje u djetinjstvu od strane oca. Ni to nije dosta jer Justice dobiva na čuvanje sina (Danny Boyd Jr) kojeg je napustila prije šest godina, a malac je traumatiziran i ne govori otkako mu je otac stradao.

Povrh toga, Justice će nakratko ostvariti i gay romansu s trenericom Buddhakan (dobra Sheila Atim). Pročitajte još jednom zadnje četiri rečenice prije nego uslijedi peta: Justice radi na povratku u MMA iz iskupničkih, "self respect" i novčanih pobuda u ringu i izvan njega. To i jest, ili bi trebao biti, središnji dio filma preopterećena dramskom težinom toliko da guši likove i odmiče fokus s glavne priče.

Bilo je sasvim dovoljno uzeti dva ili tri dramska tropa, da ne kažemo klišeja, umjesto njih šest-sedam, za priču o borkinji koja ponovno budi svoj borbeni duh jer je "rođena za borbu", recimo alkoholizam i majčinstvo (mater, fajter). Mogla je Berry učiti na primjeru superiornijeg "Rockyja Balboe", znatno foksiranijeg, iskrenijeg i inspirativnijeg "comeback" filma unutar sportske drame s unaprijed zadanim žanrovskim formulama.

Daleko od toga da "Modrice" nemaju poneki nadahnuti trenutak, poput uvodne (subjektivni kadrovi) ili završne borbe (realistična UFC koreografija) i da ne znaju ispoljiti sirovu glumačku emociju po uzoru na "Creeda", no veći dio filma je režiran po nezavisnjačkom "PS-u" bez posebne originalnosti i osobnosti da bi u konačnici ostvario nokaut i ostavio publiku u emotivnim modricama. Berry udara, ali ne nokautira.

Posvećenost 55-godišnje Halle Berry prilično je vidljiva ispred kamere Netflixova filma "Modrice" ("Bruised"), njezinog redateljskog prvijenca. Halle se pošteno pripremila za fizički zahtjevnu ulogu MMA borkinje i dala je cijelu sebe u scenama kad trenira i primjenjuje trening u kavezu.

Razina dedikacije je usporediva s Jakeom Gyllenhaalom u "Lijevom krošeu" ili Hilary Swank u "Djevojci od milijun dolara", uz tu razliku da su njih dvoje bili dosta mlađi od nje u vrijeme snimanja filmova (30 i 35 godina). Glumičina predanost je uistinu impresivna, posebice kad doznate da je slomila dva rebra na setu i nastavila snimati film u dvojnoj ulozi glumice i redateljice.

Međutim, pogrešno je misliti da su "Modrice" njezin "passion project" ili projekt iz strasti. Nije ona radila godinama na projektu koji je, prema scenariju Michelle Rosenfarb, izvorno bio zamišljen za Blake Lively pod režijom Nicka Cassavetesa. Ovo nije takav projekt.

No, jasno je što ju je primarno privuklo filmu: mogla se prepoznati u liku Jackie Justice i njezinoj borbi. Njezina karijera je bila jedna velika borba, naročito u prvoj fazi, tijekom devedesetih godina prošloog stoljeća ("Prljavi igraju prljavo"). Gubila je uloge zbog boje kože ("Slomljena strijela") ili nije čak ni smjela doći na audiciju ("Kad jaganjci utihnu").

Tek se početkom 2000-ih izborila za status zvijezde ("X-Men", "Swordfish", "Catwoman"), oskarovke ("Bal čudovišta") i Bond-djevojke ("Umri drugi dan"). Jednako tako, "Bruised" označava njezin povratak nezavisnim ostvarenjima i dramskim ulogama nakon niza blockbustera (nastavci "X-Mena", "Kingsman 2", "John Wick 3") i komercijalnih uradaka ("Poziv", "Otmica") s kakvima se predaleko odmakla od Oscara.

Film je trebao Halle da povrati dramski, oskarovski legitimitet pomoću Berry iza kamere, da deglamurizira zvjezdani sjaj i odigra lik od krvi, mesa i modrica. I tu dolazimo do problema filma koji je mogao biti ženski "Rocky Balboa" iz MMA svijeta ili "Žena-mačka od milijun dolara".

Naime, Halle se iz petnih žila trudi glumački vratiti u dramski, "indie", oskarovski ring, a redateljica Berry pretjeruje da to omogući i odlazi u "full retard" smjeru, kako bi rekao lik Roberta Downeyja Jr-a u "Tropskoj grmljavini". Nije dosta da je Justice stara i poražena MMA borkinja koja se samosažaljeva godinama nakon poraza, okrenula se piću i skriva alkohol u plastičnim bocama sredstava za čišćenje s pumpicom, budući da sada zarađuje za život kao čistačica tuđih stanova.

Justice živi s momkom/ menadžerom nasilničkih tendencija, Desijem (Adan Canto) i ima nategnut odnos s drogiranom majkom (Adriane Lenox) koja je zažmirila na njezino zlostavljanje u djetinjstvu od strane oca. Ni to nije dosta jer Justice dobiva na čuvanje sina (Danny Boyd Jr) kojeg je napustila prije šest godina, a malac je traumatiziran i ne govori otkako mu je otac stradao.

Povrh toga, Justice će nakratko ostvariti i gay romansu s trenericom Buddhakan (dobra Sheila Atim). Pročitajte još jednom zadnje četiri rečenice prije nego uslijedi peta: Justice radi na povratku u MMA iz iskupničkih, "self respect" i novčanih pobuda u ringu i izvan njega. To i jest, ili bi trebao biti, središnji dio filma preopterećena dramskom težinom toliko da guši likove i odmiče fokus s glavne priče.

Bilo je sasvim dovoljno uzeti dva ili tri dramska tropa, da ne kažemo klišeja, umjesto njih šest-sedam, za priču o borkinji koja ponovno budi svoj borbeni duh jer je "rođena za borbu", recimo alkoholizam i majčinstvo (mater, fajter). Mogla je Berry učiti na primjeru superiornijeg "Rockyja Balboe", znatno foksiranijeg, iskrenijeg i inspirativnijeg "comeback" filma unutar sportske drame s unaprijed zadanim žanrovskim formulama.

Daleko od toga da "Modrice" nemaju poneki nadahnuti trenutak, poput uvodne (subjektivni kadrovi) ili završne borbe (realistična UFC koreografija) i da ne znaju ispoljiti sirovu glumačku emociju po uzoru na "Creeda", no veći dio filma je režiran po nezavisnjačkom "PS-u" bez posebne originalnosti i osobnosti da bi u konačnici ostvario nokaut i ostavio publiku u emotivnim modricama. Berry udara, ali ne nokautira.
