Happy end iz bajke doživjeli su likovi fantazije “Princeza nevjesta” (“The Princess Bride”, 1987.), pa i puno više od toga. Likovi nisu samo nastavili “živjeti sretno do kraja života”, već su postali i besmrtni, kao i sam film žanrovski svestranog režisera Roba Reinera , nastao prema istoimenu romanu scenarista Williama Goldmana .
Pozicionirana u Reinerovoj filmografiji između “Ostani uz mene ” s jedne strane, tj. “Kad je Harry sreo Sally ” i “Misery ” s druge, “Princeza nevjesta” je napunila 35 godina, ali gledat će se i prepričavati kad bude imala 350, nadživjeti redatelja, glumce, scenarista i gledatelje. ”Moje ime je Inigo Montoya, ubio si mog oca, pripremi se za smrt”, “Nepojmljivo”, “Nisam ja kriv što sam velik i snažan, čak ni ne vježbam”, “Kako želite”, “Moj Westley će me spasiti”, “Život je bol, svatko tko kaže drugačije nešto prodaje”...
To su samo neki od citata iz “The Princess Bride”, a prvi od navedenih je u Reinerovu opusu vjerojatno najcitiraniji uz ili iza “Ja ću isto što i ona” (“When Harry Met Sally”) i “Ne možeš podnijeti istinu” (“Malo dobrih ljudi”).
Utjecaj “Princeze nevjeste” vidljiv je u nizu fantazija poput “Kapetana Kuke ” ili “Zvjezdane prašine”, ali i “Posljednjem akcijskom junaku ”, “Vrisku ”, “Shreku”... satiričnim filmovima koji istovremeno slave određeni žanr i sa njim zbijaju šale, drže se tradicije i simultano je krše, u ovom slučaju bajkoviti “fantasy”.
“The Princess Bride” se naoko po plakatu može zamijeniti za neku od fantazija osamdesetih, tipa “Legenda ”, “Žena sokol”, “Labirint ” ili “Willow ”. Film isporučuje žanrovske prohtjeve u smislu fantazije, romanse ili mačevalačke i ine akcije, no za razliku od njih radi to s namigom i pametnim samoironičnim, autoparodijskim odmakom britkog “montipajtonovskog” verbalnog i tjelesnog humora.
Na taj način, “Princeza nevjesta” je bila podjednako pristupačna mladim i starijim gledateljima, klincima osamdesetih željnim mačevanja i njihovim roditeljima koji su to možda prerasli. Takva je i ostala. Danas film isto može biti pristupačan mlađima i starijima koji su bili mladi 1987., sutra također, preksutra i dalje, iz generacije u generaciju.
Adaptirajući vlastiti roman iz 1973., inspiriran knjigom koju je sam čitao kao dijete, ali napisan iz “odrasle” perspektive, oskarovski scenarist Goldman (“Butch Cassidy i Sundance Kid ”, “Svi predsjednikovi ljudi”) načinio je scenarij metafilmskim ili metatekstualnim, svakako zimzelenim, da ne ostari ni kad film počne vizualno stariti, a počeo je kao i mnoge fantazije osamdesetih suočene s napretkom specijalnih efekata.

Goldman je pogodio kad je scenarij struktuirao kao transgeneracijsku priču unutar priče koja se prenosi s koljena na koljeno. Naime, zbivanja u filmu pripovijeda djed (legendarni Peter Falk ), čitajući fibroznom unuku (Fred Savage ) priču za laku noć nazvanu – “Princeza nevjesta”.
Unuk više voli videoigre od knjiga, današnji klinci pogotovo, a u sobi ovog djeteta osamdesetih vidimo i igračke He-Mana i Mastersa . Prvi kadar filma “The Princess Bride” je kadar videoigre koju unuk igra i dječak će se nemalo iznenaditi kad mu djed bane u sobu s knjigom u ruci.
”Knjiga?”, razočarano će malac. “Tako je”, kaže djed i podsjeća da je knjiga bila preteča elektronične vrste zabave. “Kad sam ja bio tvojih godina, televizija se zvala knjiga. A ovo je posebna knjiga. Bila je to knjiga koju mi je moj otac čitao kad sam bio bolestan, a ja sam je čitao tvom ocu. I danas ću je pročitati tebi”...
“Ima li u njoj išta sporta?”, zanima se klinjo, ciljajući na uzbuđenja. “Šališ li se? Mačevanje, borba, mučenje, osveta, divovi, čudovišta, potjere, bijegovi, prava ljubav, čuda...”, nabraja djed. “Ne zvuči tako loše. Pokušat ću ostati budan”, kaže unuk. I djed počne pričati, tj. čitati naglas knjigu, transpotirajući unuka u kraljevstvo Florin i upoznavajući ga s prelijepom princezom Buttercup (glumački debi Robin Wright ) i siromašnim farmerom Westleyjem (Cary Elwes ) koji izvršava sve što ona poželi uz riječi “As you wish”.
“Kako želite” je između redaka “Volim te”. Tako princ misli o princezi, i princeza shvaća da voli njega i želi s njime živjeti sretno do kraja života. ”Čekaj, čekaj”, zaustavlja unuk priču. “Je li ovo knjiga o poljupcima”, pita dječak kojemu je to sinonim za dosadu i zadnje što mu treba. Djed mu obećava da će biti svega što on priželjkuje.

Ubrzo, Westley navodno stradava u napadu strašnog gusara kad je otišao (za)raditi za njih dvoje preko mora, a princeza se nasilu treba udati za princa Humperdincka (Chris Sarandon ), ali je otimaju tri odmetnika. Sva trojica su pamtljivi likovi: mali Sicilijanac Vizzini (Wallace Shawn ), samoprozvani najpametniji čovjek na svijetu s poštapalicom “Nepojmljivo”, div zlatnog srca Fezzik (Andre the Giant ) i španjolski mačevalac Indigo Montoya (nezaboravni Mandy Patinkin ) u potrazi za ubojicom svoga oca.
Kad oteta princeza skoči s broda da pobjegne od njih, Vizzini je upozorava na vrišteće jegulje, a djed na vrhuncu napetosti zaustavlja priču da uvjeri unuka kako je neće pojesti. Potom nastavlja avanturu i Westley će se, da spasi Buttercup, verati po “liticama ludila”, mačevati s Indigom, odigrati s Vizzinijem “nadmetanje umova do smrti”, naći se s princezom u “vatrenoj močvari”, upasti sa njom u živo blato i boriti se protiv “glodavca neobične veličine”.
Sve to prije nego zamalo umre i “većinski mrtvog” ga oživi vrač Miracle Max (Billy Crystal skriven iza maske) da može izazvati princa Humperdincka na “dvoboj do boli”, neovisno o obamrlom tijelu koje talentirani Elwes koristi kako bi “errolflynnovskog” Westleyja približio junacima “slapstick” komedije. Dotad, unuk je već uvučen u djedovu priču, kao i klinci u film, da mu/im više ne smeta ni ljubljenje.
U tome i jest metafilmska/transgeneracijska bit “Princeze nevjeste”, snazi pripovijedanja i slušanja, odnosu pripovjedača i slušača. Mlađi gledatelji zaboravljaju na “dosadne” dijelove priče/filma zahvaljujući uzbudljivima, a i njih će cijeniti jednom kad odrastu, i tako od jedne generacije do druge.
Ljubav Westleyja i princeze je srce filma. No, odnos djeda i unuka ispada još važniji, daje mu dušu i u konačnici savršeno ilustrira zašto se generacije vraćaju ovoj priči. “Sad mislim da bi trebao na spavanje. Možda bi mogao doći sutra i ponovno mi čitati. Kako želiš...”

Happy end iz bajke doživjeli su likovi fantazije “Princeza nevjesta” (“The Princess Bride”, 1987.), pa i puno više od toga. Likovi nisu samo nastavili “živjeti sretno do kraja života”, već su postali i besmrtni, kao i sam film žanrovski svestranog režisera Roba Reinera , nastao prema istoimenu romanu scenarista Williama Goldmana .
Pozicionirana u Reinerovoj filmografiji između “Ostani uz mene ” s jedne strane, tj. “Kad je Harry sreo Sally ” i “Misery ” s druge, “Princeza nevjesta” je napunila 35 godina, ali gledat će se i prepričavati kad bude imala 350, nadživjeti redatelja, glumce, scenarista i gledatelje. Izjave likova još uvijek se citiraju.

”Moje ime je Inigo Montoya, ubio si mog oca, pripremi se za smrt”, “Nepojmljivo”, “Nisam ja kriv što sam velik i snažan, čak ni ne vježbam”, “Kako želite”, “Moj Westley će me spasiti”, “Život je bol, svatko tko kaže drugačije nešto prodaje”...
To su samo neki od citata iz “The Princess Bride”, a prvi od navedenih je u Reinerovu opusu vjerojatno najcitiraniji uz ili iza “Ja ću isto što i ona” (“When Harry Met Sally”) i “Ne možeš podnijeti istinu” (“Malo dobrih ljudi”).
Utjecaj “Princeze nevjeste” vidljiv je u nizu fantazija poput “Kapetana Kuke ” ili “Zvjezdane prašine”, ali i “Posljednjem akcijskom junaku ”, “Vrisku ”, “Shreku”... satiričnim filmovima koji istovremeno slave određeni žanr i sa njim zbijaju šale, drže se tradicije i simultano je krše, u ovom slučaju bajkoviti “fantasy”.
“The Princess Bride” se naoko po plakatu može zamijeniti za neku od fantazija osamdesetih, tipa “Legenda ”, “Žena sokol”, “Labirint ” ili “Willow ”. Film isporučuje žanrovske prohtjeve u smislu fantazije, romanse ili mačevalačke i ine akcije, no za razliku od njih radi to s namigom i pametnim samoironičnim, autoparodijskim odmakom britkog “montipajtonovskog” verbalnog i tjelesnog humora.
Na taj način, “Princeza nevjesta” je bila podjednako pristupačna mladim i starijim gledateljima, klincima osamdesetih željnim mačevanja i njihovim roditeljima koji su to možda prerasli. Takva je i ostala. Danas film isto može biti pristupačan mlađima i starijima koji su bili mladi 1987., sutra također, preksutra i dalje, iz generacije u generaciju.
Adaptirajući vlastiti roman iz 1973., inspiriran knjigom koju je sam čitao kao dijete, ali napisan iz “odrasle” perspektive, oskarovski scenarist Goldman (“Butch Cassidy i Sundance Kid ”, “Svi predsjednikovi ljudi”) načinio je scenarij metafilmskim ili metatekstualnim, svakako zimzelenim, da ne ostari ni kad film počne vizualno stariti, a počeo je kao i mnoge fantazije osamdesetih suočene s napretkom specijalnih efekata.

Goldman je pogodio kad je scenarij struktuirao kao transgeneracijsku priču unutar priče koja se prenosi s koljena na koljeno. Naime, zbivanja u filmu pripovijeda djed (legendarni Peter Falk ), čitajući fibroznom unuku (Fred Savage ) priču za laku noć nazvanu – “Princeza nevjesta”.
Unuk više voli videoigre od knjiga, današnji klinci pogotovo, a u sobi ovog djeteta osamdesetih vidimo i igračke He-Mana i Mastersa . Prvi kadar filma “The Princess Bride” je kadar videoigre koju unuk igra i dječak će se nemalo iznenaditi kad mu djed bane u sobu s knjigom u ruci.
”Knjiga?”, razočarano će malac. “Tako je”, kaže djed i podsjeća da je knjiga bila preteča elektronične vrste zabave. “Kad sam ja bio tvojih godina, televizija se zvala knjiga. A ovo je posebna knjiga. Bila je to knjiga koju mi je moj otac čitao kad sam bio bolestan, a ja sam je čitao tvom ocu. I danas ću je pročitati tebi”...
“Ima li u njoj išta sporta?”, zanima se klinjo, ciljajući na uzbuđenja. “Šališ li se? Mačevanje, borba, mučenje, osveta, divovi, čudovišta, potjere, bijegovi, prava ljubav, čuda...”, nabraja djed. “Ne zvuči tako loše. Pokušat ću ostati budan”, kaže unuk. I djed počne pričati, tj. čitati naglas knjigu, transpotirajući unuka u kraljevstvo Florin i upoznavajući ga s prelijepom princezom Buttercup (glumački debi Robin Wright ) i siromašnim farmerom Westleyjem (Cary Elwes ) koji izvršava sve što ona poželi uz riječi “As you wish”.
“Kako želite” je između redaka “Volim te”. Tako princ misli o princezi, i princeza shvaća da voli njega i želi s njime živjeti sretno do kraja života. ”Čekaj, čekaj”, zaustavlja unuk priču. “Je li ovo knjiga o poljupcima”, pita dječak kojemu je to sinonim za dosadu i zadnje što mu treba. Djed mu obećava da će biti svega što on priželjkuje.

Ubrzo, Westley navodno stradava u napadu strašnog gusara kad je otišao (za)raditi za njih dvoje preko mora, a princeza se nasilu treba udati za princa Humperdincka (Chris Sarandon ), ali je otimaju tri odmetnika. Sva trojica su pamtljivi likovi: mali Sicilijanac Vizzini (Wallace Shawn ), samoprozvani najpametniji čovjek na svijetu s poštapalicom “Nepojmljivo”, div zlatnog srca Fezzik (Andre the Giant ) i španjolski mačevalac Indigo Montoya (nezaboravni Mandy Patinkin ) u potrazi za ubojicom svoga oca.
Kad oteta princeza skoči s broda da pobjegne od njih, Vizzini je upozorava na vrišteće jegulje, a djed na vrhuncu napetosti zaustavlja priču da uvjeri unuka kako je neće pojesti. Potom nastavlja avanturu i Westley će se, da spasi Buttercup, verati po “liticama ludila”, mačevati s Indigom, odigrati s Vizzinijem “nadmetanje umova do smrti”, naći se s princezom u “vatrenoj močvari”, upasti sa njom u živo blato i boriti se protiv “glodavca neobične veličine”.
Sve to prije nego zamalo umre i “većinski mrtvog” ga oživi vrač Miracle Max (Billy Crystal skriven iza maske) da može izazvati princa Humperdincka na “dvoboj do boli”, neovisno o obamrlom tijelu koje talentirani Elwes koristi kako bi “errolflynnovskog” Westleyja približio junacima “slapstick” komedije. Dotad, unuk je već uvučen u djedovu priču, kao i klinci u film, da mu/im više ne smeta ni ljubljenje.
U tome i jest metafilmska/transgeneracijska bit “Princeze nevjeste”, snazi pripovijedanja i slušanja, odnosu pripovjedača i slušača. Mlađi gledatelji zaboravljaju na “dosadne” dijelove priče/filma zahvaljujući uzbudljivima, a i njih će cijeniti jednom kad odrastu, i tako od jedne generacije do druge.
Ljubav Westleyja i princeze je srce filma. No, odnos djeda i unuka ispada još važniji, daje mu dušu i u konačnici savršeno ilustrira zašto se generacije vraćaju ovoj priči. “Sad mislim da bi trebao na spavanje. Možda bi mogao doći sutra i ponovno mi čitati. Kako želiš...”
