Edinburška kina vrte i američki nezavisni film "Theater Camp", također premijerno prikazan na Sundanceu, gdje je kompanija Fox Searchlight kupila prava za njegovu distribuciju za golemih osam milijuna dolara. Iako "Theater Camp" nije komedija za svačiji ukus zbog specifičnog, na trenutke i ekscentričnog "indie" humora sklonog improvizacijama, bila je po guštu publike u "Cameo Picturehouse" kinu.

Film je produžetak istoimenog, 18-minutnog kratkiša iz 2020. u režiji Molly Gordon i Nicka Liebermana, prema scenariju napisanom zajedničkim snagama s Benom Plattom i Noahom Galvinom. To je na trenutke vidljivo tijekom sat i pol trajanja, ali energija ispred i iza kamere je zarazna, a ljubav glumaca i filmaša prema likovima i priči opipljiva.

Gordon, Lieberman, Platt i Galvin su odrasli zajedno, a i neki od njih su i osobno iskusili ljeto u kazališnom kampu za djecu i mlade nalik ovome iz filma.

Platt i Gordon se pojavljuju kao klinci na pozornici u dokumentarističkim prizorima iz uvoda filma. Sve to se osjeti u univerzalnoj američkoj komediji "Theater Camp" koja i hrvatskog gledatelja može podsjetiti na djeliće djetinjstva i/li mladosti provedene u ljetnim kampovima poput "Eurocluba".

Nakon što započne kao lažni dokumentarac, film se smješta u kamp iz naslova za klince s broadwayjskim aspiracijama – Adirondack na otoku Lake George u gornjem dijelu države New York. Osnivačica kampa Joan (Amy Sedaris) pala je u komu i cijela organizacija pada na učitelja glume Amosa i učiteljicu glazbe Rebeccu-Diane (Platt, Gordon) s obzirom da njezin sin Troy (Jimmy Tatro) baš i nije pravi čovjek za taj posao.

Kako Joan nije uspjela riješiti sve financije, kamp je na rubu ovrhe, što se nadvija nad pripremom predstave "Joan, Still", posvećene osnivačici i njezinoj životnoj priči. Dok predstavnica susjednog kampa za bogate (Patti Harrison) nagovara Troya na prodaju, Amos, Rebecca-Diane i drugi učitelji pokušavaju s klincima ispoštovati "deadline" za predstavu kako bi spasili stvar.

Glumačka ekipa je raspoložena i klinci su "au pair" s odraslima, poput Bailee Bonick i Alana Kima ("Minari") koji se, u odijelu, s mobitelom u ruci, pretvara da je agent za hollywoodske zvijezde. Pripreme predstave umiju biti razmjerno urnebesne koliko i bizarne, recimo da djeca i mladi imaju plesno-pjevnu "Studio 54" točku.

Uopće, mjuzikl sekvencije kao da koketiraju s ostavštinom Boba Fossea ("Cabaret", "Sav taj jazz") samo za klince, što ima smisla s obzirom na grupu zvanu "Fosse kids". Dakako, "Theater Camp" nije fosseovski komad, naprotiv nerijetko njeguje vibru "Eda Wooda", "Majstora lošeg filma" i "Dolemite Is My Name", preseljenu s filmskog seta u teatar za klince koji se radi posvećeno i s puno ljubavi neovisno o talentu i konačnom ishodu glume, pjesme, plesne točke ili cijele predstave.

Gledatelj navija da predstava uspije u finalu, a možda bi i pjevušio melodije da je "Theater Camp" klasični mjuzikl s uholjepljivim pjesmama ili refrenima. Nije ni metakazališni klasik, ali jest "feel good movie" koji može izmamiti smijeh i postati nešto više od komedije. Obvezna lektira za sve bivše, trenutne i buduće polaznike škole glume i ljetnih kampova.

Molly Gordon je glumila u komedijama kao što su "Booksmart", "Dobri dečki", "Galerija slomljenih srca", "Vaši i naši", kao i seriji "Bear".

Edinburška kina vrte i američki nezavisni film "Theater Camp", također premijerno prikazan na Sundanceu, gdje je kompanija Fox Searchlight kupila prava za njegovu distribuciju za golemih osam milijuna dolara. Iako "Theater Camp" nije komedija za svačiji ukus zbog specifičnog, na trenutke i ekscentričnog "indie" humora sklonog improvizacijama, bila je po guštu publike u "Cameo Picturehouse" kinu.

Film je produžetak istoimenog, 18-minutnog kratkiša iz 2020. u režiji Molly Gordon i Nicka Liebermana, prema scenariju napisanom zajedničkim snagama s Benom Plattom i Noahom Galvinom. To je na trenutke vidljivo tijekom sat i pol trajanja, ali energija ispred i iza kamere je zarazna, a ljubav glumaca i filmaša prema likovima i priči opipljiva.

Gordon, Lieberman, Platt i Galvin su odrasli zajedno, a i neki od njih su i osobno iskusili ljeto u kazališnom kampu za djecu i mlade nalik ovome iz filma.

Platt i Gordon se pojavljuju kao klinci na pozornici u dokumentarističkim prizorima iz uvoda filma. Sve to se osjeti u univerzalnoj američkoj komediji "Theater Camp" koja i hrvatskog gledatelja može podsjetiti na djeliće djetinjstva i/li mladosti provedene u ljetnim kampovima poput "Eurocluba".

Nakon što započne kao lažni dokumentarac, film se smješta u kamp iz naslova za klince s broadwayjskim aspiracijama – Adirondack na otoku Lake George u gornjem dijelu države New York. Osnivačica kampa Joan (Amy Sedaris) pala je u komu i cijela organizacija pada na učitelja glume Amosa i učiteljicu glazbe Rebeccu-Diane (Platt, Gordon) s obzirom da njezin sin Troy (Jimmy Tatro) baš i nije pravi čovjek za taj posao.

Kako Joan nije uspjela riješiti sve financije, kamp je na rubu ovrhe, što se nadvija nad pripremom predstave "Joan, Still", posvećene osnivačici i njezinoj životnoj priči. Dok predstavnica susjednog kampa za bogate (Patti Harrison) nagovara Troya na prodaju, Amos, Rebecca-Diane i drugi učitelji pokušavaju s klincima ispoštovati "deadline" za predstavu kako bi spasili stvar.

Glumačka ekipa je raspoložena i klinci su "au pair" s odraslima, poput Bailee Bonick i Alana Kima ("Minari") koji se, u odijelu, s mobitelom u ruci, pretvara da je agent za hollywoodske zvijezde. Pripreme predstave umiju biti razmjerno urnebesne koliko i bizarne, recimo da djeca i mladi imaju plesno-pjevnu "Studio 54" točku.

Uopće, mjuzikl sekvencije kao da koketiraju s ostavštinom Boba Fossea ("Cabaret", "Sav taj jazz") samo za klince, što ima smisla s obzirom na grupu zvanu "Fosse kids". Dakako, "Theater Camp" nije fosseovski komad, naprotiv nerijetko njeguje vibru "Eda Wooda", "Majstora lošeg filma" i "Dolemite Is My Name", preseljenu s filmskog seta u teatar za klince koji se radi posvećeno i s puno ljubavi neovisno o talentu i konačnom ishodu glume, pjesme, plesne točke ili cijele predstave.

Gledatelj navija da predstava uspije u finalu, a možda bi i pjevušio melodije da je "Theater Camp" klasični mjuzikl s uholjepljivim pjesmama ili refrenima. Nije ni metakazališni klasik, ali jest "feel good movie" koji može izmamiti smijeh i postati nešto više od komedije. Obvezna lektira za sve bivše, trenutne i buduće polaznike škole glume i ljetnih kampova.
