Kao prvo, ako tražite "metar knjiga" za regal, ovo je divno, tvrdo ukoričeno izdanje (nakladnik je Vorto Palabra, prevoditeljica s engleskog Martina Pranić), koje ima čak 843 stranice! Što bi se u narodu reklo: "kus knjige".

Kao drugo, ali ništa manje važno, riječ je o prvorazrednoj, premda uznemirujućoj biografskoj prozi, Oatesinu vjerojatno remek-djelu još iz 2000. godine, u kojemu je vrlo slojevito opisala Monroe skoro kao da i sama proživljava glumičin život. Nakana joj je bila prikazati Marilyn (ili Normu Jean, kako vam drago) kao puno više od žrtve, i u tome je uspjela.

Ipak, već u uvodniku Oates zahtijeva da Plavušu čitamo isključivo kao fikciju a ne biografiju, uz napomenu: "Premda za mnoge od likova prikazanih u romanu postoje određeni pandani iz života i vremea Marilyn Monroe, karakterizacija i događaji u potpunosti su plod autoričine mašte. (...)".

Dakle, o čemu je riječ?

Nikako o nekakvom "šlepanju" na slavnu ostavštinu glumice koja je bila seks-simbol Amerike pedesetih godina, o čijem kratkom i burnom životu kao da sve znamo, čini nam se.

O, kako se varamo!

Doduše, spisateljica traži da "ne doživljavamo istinitim" ono o čemu piše, no srok je tako sugestivan, da se teško distancirati. Roman započinje burnim prologom datiranim trećeg kolovoza 1962. godine, dan prije Monroeine smrti, a u tom halucinantnom odlomku dostavljač novina (tinejdžerske dobi) kao da navješćuje Smrt.; Oates nas ujedno time uvlači u knjigu "o sudbini ženske zvijezde u holivudskom svijetu zrcala, smoga i sjena, svijetu u kojemu su ženska tijela roba kojom se trguje za uzbuđenje i zaradu".

Roman su recenzenti opisali kao "dramatičan, provokativan i uznemirujuće sugestivan", i s tim se teško ne složiti.

Pisan je kronološki, no dvije uvodne epizode (spomenuta, sa Smrti koja dolazi bijesno okrećući pedale, i drugom - silovanju kao "audiciju" za ulogu u filmu) mogu zbuniti čitače. U nastavku Monroein život teče od ranijeg djetinjstva kad je preminula jedina stabilna figura u životu male Norme Jean – njezina baka Della Monroe – preko (reduciranog na jednu obitelj) života kod udomitelja, udaje u 15. godini, raspada tog braka, punoljetnosti i prvog zaposlenja u tvornici dok je nije otkrio fotograf... I onda nastupa ono što bi mi rekli "povijest".

Veoma potresan je opis boravka uz psihički bolesnu majku, nepostojanje bilo kakve očinske figure, usamljenost i strah – pa čak i nametnuti seksualni sraz sa starijim, utjecajnim "Z"-om koji bi joj mogao biti čak i biološki otac, ulomci su iz prvog dijela romana, koje nije bilo ugodno povremeno ni čitati. Neki bi ih opisali i kao "ponižavajući po lik i djelo Marilyn Monroe"; ipak, lajtmotiv nije, kako je Oates i željela, prikazati starletu isključivo kroz prizmu prelijepe žrtve kose obojane peroksidom, žene koju su tablete držale na životu i na koncu je koštale života.

U "Plavuši" se vidi slojevit portret glumice koja je bila prvenstveno nesretno ljudsko biće, no sa velikim spektrom talenata koje nije uspjela do kraja istražiti jer ju je pod svoje uzeo (i ukalupio) žrvanj nemilosrde holivudske mašinerije.

Ona je mogla biti i divna majka djeci koju nije rodila; vrhunska glumica i umjetnica kojoj su uporno nametali stereotipne uloge; dobra kćer koja nije imala majku ni oca. Imala je, na poslijetku, samo tu ljepotu, koja joj je bila i dar i prokletstvo.

Kao prvo, ako tražite "metar knjiga" za regal, ovo je divno, tvrdo ukoričeno izdanje (nakladnik je Vorto Palabra, prevoditeljica s engleskog Martina Pranić), koje ima čak 843 stranice! Što bi se u narodu reklo: "kus knjige".

Kao drugo, ali ništa manje važno, riječ je o prvorazrednoj, premda uznemirujućoj biografskoj prozi, Oatesinu vjerojatno remek-djelu još iz 2000. godine, u kojemu je vrlo slojevito opisala Monroe skoro kao da i sama proživljava glumičin život. Nakana joj je bila prikazati Marilyn (ili Normu Jean, kako vam drago) kao puno više od žrtve, i u tome je uspjela.

Ipak, već u uvodniku Oates zahtijeva da Plavušu čitamo isključivo kao fikciju a ne biografiju, uz napomenu: "Premda za mnoge od likova prikazanih u romanu postoje određeni pandani iz života i vremea Marilyn Monroe, karakterizacija i događaji u potpunosti su plod autoričine mašte. (...)".

Dakle, o čemu je riječ?

Nikako o nekakvom "šlepanju" na slavnu ostavštinu glumice koja je bila seks-simbol Amerike pedesetih godina, o čijem kratkom i burnom životu kao da sve znamo, čini nam se.

O, kako se varamo!

Doduše, spisateljica traži da "ne doživljavamo istinitim" ono o čemu piše, no srok je tako sugestivan, da se teško distancirati. Roman započinje burnim prologom datiranim trećeg kolovoza 1962. godine, dan prije Monroeine smrti, a u tom halucinantnom odlomku dostavljač novina (tinejdžerske dobi) kao da navješćuje Smrt.; Oates nas ujedno time uvlači u knjigu "o sudbini ženske zvijezde u holivudskom svijetu zrcala, smoga i sjena, svijetu u kojemu su ženska tijela roba kojom se trguje za uzbuđenje i zaradu".

Roman su recenzenti opisali kao "dramatičan, provokativan i uznemirujuće sugestivan", i s tim se teško ne složiti.

Pisan je kronološki, no dvije uvodne epizode (spomenuta, sa Smrti koja dolazi bijesno okrećući pedale, i drugom - silovanju kao "audiciju" za ulogu u filmu) mogu zbuniti čitače. U nastavku Monroein život teče od ranijeg djetinjstva kad je preminula jedina stabilna figura u životu male Norme Jean – njezina baka Della Monroe – preko (reduciranog na jednu obitelj) života kod udomitelja, udaje u 15. godini, raspada tog braka, punoljetnosti i prvog zaposlenja u tvornici dok je nije otkrio fotograf... I onda nastupa ono što bi mi rekli "povijest".

Veoma potresan je opis boravka uz psihički bolesnu majku, nepostojanje bilo kakve očinske figure, usamljenost i strah – pa čak i nametnuti seksualni sraz sa starijim, utjecajnim "Z"-om koji bi joj mogao biti čak i biološki otac, ulomci su iz prvog dijela romana, koje nije bilo ugodno povremeno ni čitati. Neki bi ih opisali i kao "ponižavajući po lik i djelo Marilyn Monroe"; ipak, lajtmotiv nije, kako je Oates i željela, prikazati starletu isključivo kroz prizmu prelijepe žrtve kose obojane peroksidom, žene koju su tablete držale na životu i na koncu je koštale života.

U "Plavuši" se vidi slojevit portret glumice koja je bila prvenstveno nesretno ljudsko biće, no sa velikim spektrom talenata koje nije uspjela do kraja istražiti jer ju je pod svoje uzeo (i ukalupio) žrvanj nemilosrde holivudske mašinerije.

Ona je mogla biti i divna majka djeci koju nije rodila; vrhunska glumica i umjetnica kojoj su uporno nametali stereotipne uloge; dobra kćer koja nije imala majku ni oca. Imala je, na poslijetku, samo tu ljepotu, koja joj je bila i dar i prokletstvo.

Zašto je mudro uložiti 22 eura u roman ‘Plavuša‘ autorice Joyce Carol Oates zna naša Lenka Gospodnetić

Kao prvo, ako tražite "metar knjiga" za regal, ovo je divno, tvrdo ukoričeno izdanje (nakladnik je Vorto Palabra, prevoditeljica s engleskog Martina Pranić), koje ima čak 843 stranice! Što bi se u narodu reklo: "kus knjige".

Kao drugo, ali ništa manje važno, riječ je o prvorazrednoj, premda uznemirujućoj biografskoj prozi, Oatesinu vjerojatno remek-djelu još iz 2000. godine, u kojemu je vrlo slojevito opisala Monroe skoro kao da i sama proživljava glumičin život. Nakana joj je bila prikazati Marilyn (ili Normu Jean, kako vam drago) kao puno više od žrtve, i u tome je uspjela.

Ipak, već u uvodniku Oates zahtijeva da Plavušu čitamo isključivo kao fikciju a ne biografiju, uz napomenu: "Premda za mnoge od likova prikazanih u romanu postoje određeni pandani iz života i vremea Marilyn Monroe, karakterizacija i događaji u potpunosti su plod autoričine mašte. (...)".
