Samo je u svibnju u Amazoniji posječeno 1.180 četvornih kilometara prašume, što je malo više od ukupne površine Hong Konga, ističu podaci objavljeni u petak.
Krčenje amazonske šume poraslo je za 41 posto u odnosu na isti mjesec prethodne godine, priopćio je Brazilski nacionalni institut za svemirska istraživanja (INPE) .
To je također treći mjesec zaredom da su zabilježene rekordne razine deforestacije, a prvi put iznos iskrčene površine premašuje 1000 četvornih kilometara.

Nevladin think thank institut Observatorio do Clima izjavio je da su podaci posebno zabrinjavajući jer u svibnju počinje sezona suša i tada se u Amazoniji ubrzava sječa stabala.
Ako se ovaj trend nastavi tijekom iduća dva mjeseca, godišnja stopa krčenja šuma za 2021. koja se mjeri od kolovoza do srpnja, mogla bi doseći najvišu razinu do sada, naglasio je brazilski think thank.

Ako se ovaj trend nastavi tijekom iduća dva mjeseca, godišnja stopa krčenja šuma za 2021. koja se mjeri od kolovoza do srpnja, mogla bi doseći najvišu razinu do sada, naglasio je brazilski think thank.
