Rijetko pismo ruske carice Katarine Velike kojim potiče podanike na cijepljenje protiv boginja izloženo je u petak u Moskvi, dok se ruske vlasti dva stoljeća poslije muče s nagovaranjem stanovništva da se cijepi protiv koronavirusa.
Katarina Velika u pismu grofu Pjotru Rumjancevu 20. travnja 1787. godine izlaže detaljne upute vlastima na prostoru današnje Ukrajine kako organizirati učinkovitu kampanju cijepljenja.
Aukcijska kuća MacDougall's, specijalizirana za ruske umjetnine, u petak je u Moskvi je izložila carinčin portret i pismo prije nego što će ih prodati na dražbi u Londonu 1. prosinca.
Procijenjena vrijednost pisma i portreta zajedno iznosi 1,2 milijuna britanskih funti (nešto manje od 11 milijuna kuna).
„Jedna od najvažnijih (zadaća) trebala bi biti uvođenje cijepljenja protiv boginja, koje, kao što znamo, nanose veliko zlo, naročito među običnim ljudima”, napisala je Katarina Velika grofu Rumjancevu, tadašnjem upravitelju Malorusije, odnosno današnje Ukrajine.
„Takvo bi cijepljenje trebalo biti sveprisutno”, napisala je ćiriličnim krasopisom, potpisavši se velikim slovima.
Katarina je u pismu detaljno opisala kako cjepiva učiniti široko dostupnima. Nalaže i da se oboljeli privremeno smjeste u samostane ako se razbole nakon cijepljenja.
„S obzirom na današnju situaciju, trebali bismo biti veoma ponosni na Katarinu”, rekla je novinarima suvoditeljica aukcijske kuće i stručnjakinja za ruske umjetnine Jekatarina MacDougall.
Ruski predsjednik Vladimir Putin, po vlastitom priznanju, nakon nekoliko mjeseci pandemije cijepio se ruskim cjepivom Sputnjikom. Neki su ga kritizirali zbog toga što to nije učinio pred kamerama.
Strah od boginja
Carica je organizirala gotovo nezamislivu promidžbenu kampanju ne bi li potakla svoje podanike da se cijepe protiv boginja, koje su tada desetkovale stanovništvo diljem Europe.
"Ali nije uvela obavezno cijepljenje jer je bila vrlo inteligentna", rekla je MacDougall.
„Znala je da bi se ruski narod pobunio protiv toga”, objasnila je.
Mnogi su se suvremeni Rusi pobunili protiv uputa aktualnih vlasti i odbili se cijepiti protiv koronavirusa.
Samo 36 posto ruskog stanovništva je u potpunosti cijepljeno unatoč višestrukim molbama predsjednika Putina.
Katarinino je pismo „jedinstveno, osobito kad se u obzir uzme situacija u kojoj se svi nalazimo”, rekao je novinarima videovezom povjesničar Oleg Hromov i dodao da je „čudo” što je pismo sačuvano.
Carica, koja se poput mnogih, bojala smrti od boginja, dovela je iz liječnika iz Engleske da je cijepi protiv te opake zarazne bolesti.
Hromov je rekao da su liječnici uzorak virusa izdvojili iz zaraženog djeteta i zatim ga ubrizgali Katarini. Djetetu je kasnije dodijeljen plemićka naslov.
Katarina se potom nakratko razboljela, a čim se oporavila carske su vlasti izdale proglas i objavile, da se carica osjeća dobro i pozvali druge da slijede njen primjer.
Unatoč njezinim naporima da ih razuvjeri, "ljudi su bili uplašeni", cjepivo je bilo nešto novo i neobično, rekao je Hromov.
Kada je 1774. godine francuski kralj Luj XV. umro od boginja, Katarina je navodno rekla da je „barbarski” umrijeti od te bolesti u prosvijećenom 18. stoljeću.
„Nadam se da ćemo jednog dana, možda u bliskoj budućnosti, moći reći: 'Kakvo je barbarstvo umrijeti od covida u 21. stoljeću'”, rekla je MacDougall.
Katarina Velika na tronu je bila od 1762. do 1796. godine, što je čini najdugovječnijom ruskom vladaricom u povijesti.

Rijetko pismo ruske carice Katarine Velike kojim potiče podanike na cijepljenje protiv boginja izloženo je u petak u Moskvi, dok se ruske vlasti dva stoljeća poslije muče s nagovaranjem stanovništva da se cijepi protiv koronavirusa.
Katarina Velika u pismu grofu Pjotru Rumjancevu 20. travnja 1787. godine izlaže detaljne upute vlastima na prostoru današnje Ukrajine kako organizirati učinkovitu kampanju cijepljenja.
Aukcijska kuća MacDougall's, specijalizirana za ruske umjetnine, u petak je u Moskvi je izložila carinčin portret i pismo prije nego što će ih prodati na dražbi u Londonu 1. prosinca.
Procijenjena vrijednost pisma i portreta zajedno iznosi 1,2 milijuna britanskih funti (nešto manje od 11 milijuna kuna).
„Jedna od najvažnijih (zadaća) trebala bi biti uvođenje cijepljenja protiv boginja, koje, kao što znamo, nanose veliko zlo, naročito među običnim ljudima”, napisala je Katarina Velika grofu Rumjancevu, tadašnjem upravitelju Malorusije, odnosno današnje Ukrajine.
„Takvo bi cijepljenje trebalo biti sveprisutno”, napisala je ćiriličnim krasopisom, potpisavši se velikim slovima.
Katarina je u pismu detaljno opisala kako cjepiva učiniti široko dostupnima. Nalaže i da se oboljeli privremeno smjeste u samostane ako se razbole nakon cijepljenja.
„S obzirom na današnju situaciju, trebali bismo biti veoma ponosni na Katarinu”, rekla je novinarima suvoditeljica aukcijske kuće i stručnjakinja za ruske umjetnine Jekatarina MacDougall.
Ruski predsjednik Vladimir Putin, po vlastitom priznanju, nakon nekoliko mjeseci pandemije cijepio se ruskim cjepivom Sputnjikom. Neki su ga kritizirali zbog toga što to nije učinio pred kamerama.
Strah od boginja
Carica je organizirala gotovo nezamislivu promidžbenu kampanju ne bi li potakla svoje podanike da se cijepe protiv boginja, koje su tada desetkovale stanovništvo diljem Europe.
"Ali nije uvela obavezno cijepljenje jer je bila vrlo inteligentna", rekla je MacDougall.
„Znala je da bi se ruski narod pobunio protiv toga”, objasnila je.
Mnogi su se suvremeni Rusi pobunili protiv uputa aktualnih vlasti i odbili se cijepiti protiv koronavirusa.
Samo 36 posto ruskog stanovništva je u potpunosti cijepljeno unatoč višestrukim molbama predsjednika Putina.
Katarinino je pismo „jedinstveno, osobito kad se u obzir uzme situacija u kojoj se svi nalazimo”, rekao je novinarima videovezom povjesničar Oleg Hromov i dodao da je „čudo” što je pismo sačuvano.
Carica, koja se poput mnogih, bojala smrti od boginja, dovela je iz liječnika iz Engleske da je cijepi protiv te opake zarazne bolesti.
Hromov je rekao da su liječnici uzorak virusa izdvojili iz zaraženog djeteta i zatim ga ubrizgali Katarini. Djetetu je kasnije dodijeljen plemićka naslov.
Katarina se potom nakratko razboljela, a čim se oporavila carske su vlasti izdale proglas i objavile, da se carica osjeća dobro i pozvali druge da slijede njen primjer.
Unatoč njezinim naporima da ih razuvjeri, "ljudi su bili uplašeni", cjepivo je bilo nešto novo i neobično, rekao je Hromov.
Kada je 1774. godine francuski kralj Luj XV. umro od boginja, Katarina je navodno rekla da je „barbarski” umrijeti od te bolesti u prosvijećenom 18. stoljeću.
„Nadam se da ćemo jednog dana, možda u bliskoj budućnosti, moći reći: 'Kakvo je barbarstvo umrijeti od covida u 21. stoljeću'”, rekla je MacDougall.
Katarina Velika na tronu je bila od 1762. do 1796. godine, što je čini najdugovječnijom ruskom vladaricom u povijesti.
