Kad je Roger Newman imao samo 10 godina, liječnici su njegovim roditeljima rekli da se njegova hemofilija može liječiti krvnim pripravcima, no ‘čudesni lijek‘ pokazao se sve samo ne čudesan. Krvni produkti su bili dostupni roditeljima koji su ih mogli davati djeci kod kuće, a ne u bolnici.

Ti tretmani činili su se kao slamka spasa za mnogu djecu koja su bolovala od poremećaja krvi u Velikoj Britaniji u 1970-ima, ali se pokazalo kako su ti krvni produkti bili kontaminirani HIV-om i hepatitisom. Roger Newman imao je samo 15 godina kad su mu rekli da je zaražen HIV-om.

“Kasnije sam vidio članak sa svim upozorenjima o sidi. Rekao sam: ‘Mama, jesam li to ja?’ A ona je rekla: ‘Da’.

Osjetio sam da je nešto u meni umrlo. Tada se sjećam da je moj liječnik rekao: ‘Vjerojatno imaš još dvije godine života‘, kazao je Newman (56) za The Guardian.

“Osjećao sam se kao da me netko udario šakom u trbuh. Bio sam potpuno nemoćan. Također sam osjećao taj osjećaj srama zbog stigme oko bolesti u to vrijeme. Bilo je stvarno zastrašujuće. Pokušao sam se usredotočiti na bilo što, što bi me spriječilo da razmišljam o tome, ali to te me stalno proganjalo. Počeo sam slušati o ljudima koji umiru i imao sam strah od simptoma", ustvrdio je danas 56-godišnji Britanac.

“Grozna strana ovoga je što imate sve te roditelje, obično su bile mame, koji su svojoj djeci nesvjesno ubrizgavali ovaj ubojiti virus”, rekao je. "Ne možeš zamisliti kako se osjećate kao roditelj."

Oba brata Cherry Nurse (67) umrla su nakon što su se zarazila HIV-om primajući kontaminirane krvne produkte. John je umro u svibnju 1989. godine, a Paul u rujnu 1994. godine.

"Moja je mama naučila davati injekcije i davala im ih je kod kuće”, rekla je i dodala: “Krivila je sebe sve dok nije umrla jer im je dala injekcije koje su ih ubile. Moji mama i tata to nikad nisu preboljeli. Bili su sjajni roditelji i voljeli su te".

Većina žrtava ne vjeruje da su oni ili njihove obitelji bili pravilno upozoreni na rizike. Kažu da je istraga o zaraženoj krvi, koja bi trebala biti objavljena sljedećeg mjeseca, bila bolno iskustvo, ali se nadaju da će razotkriti razmjere tragedije i nemar koji je doveo do tolikog broja smrti.

Kad je Roger Newman imao samo 10 godina, liječnici su njegovim roditeljima rekli da se njegova hemofilija može liječiti krvnim pripravcima, no ‘čudesni lijek‘ pokazao se sve samo ne čudesan. Krvni produkti su bili dostupni roditeljima koji su ih mogli davati djeci kod kuće, a ne u bolnici.

Ti tretmani činili su se kao slamka spasa za mnogu djecu koja su bolovala od poremećaja krvi u Velikoj Britaniji u 1970-ima, ali se pokazalo kako su ti krvni produkti bili kontaminirani HIV-om i hepatitisom. Roger Newman imao je samo 15 godina kad su mu rekli da je zaražen HIV-om.

“Kasnije sam vidio članak sa svim upozorenjima o sidi. Rekao sam: ‘Mama, jesam li to ja?’ A ona je rekla: ‘Da’.

Osjetio sam da je nešto u meni umrlo. Tada se sjećam da je moj liječnik rekao: ‘Vjerojatno imaš još dvije godine života‘, kazao je Newman (56) za The Guardian.

“Osjećao sam se kao da me netko udario šakom u trbuh. Bio sam potpuno nemoćan. Također sam osjećao taj osjećaj srama zbog stigme oko bolesti u to vrijeme. Bilo je stvarno zastrašujuće. Pokušao sam se usredotočiti na bilo što, što bi me spriječilo da razmišljam o tome, ali to te me stalno proganjalo. Počeo sam slušati o ljudima koji umiru i imao sam strah od simptoma", ustvrdio je danas 56-godišnji Britanac.

“Grozna strana ovoga je što imate sve te roditelje, obično su bile mame, koji su svojoj djeci nesvjesno ubrizgavali ovaj ubojiti virus”, rekao je. "Ne možeš zamisliti kako se osjećate kao roditelj."

Oba brata Cherry Nurse (67) umrla su nakon što su se zarazila HIV-om primajući kontaminirane krvne produkte. John je umro u svibnju 1989. godine, a Paul u rujnu 1994. godine.

"Moja je mama naučila davati injekcije i davala im ih je kod kuće”, rekla je i dodala: “Krivila je sebe sve dok nije umrla jer im je dala injekcije koje su ih ubile. Moji mama i tata to nikad nisu preboljeli. Bili su sjajni roditelji i voljeli su te".

Većina žrtava ne vjeruje da su oni ili njihove obitelji bili pravilno upozoreni na rizike. Kažu da je istraga o zaraženoj krvi, koja bi trebala biti objavljena sljedećeg mjeseca, bila bolno iskustvo, ali se nadaju da će razotkriti razmjere tragedije i nemar koji je doveo do tolikog broja smrti.
