Puno prije donošenja Istanbulske konvencije mogi su detalji iz svakodnevnog života ukazivali na rodnu podjelu "muško" i "žensko". Jedna se odnosi i na – botune, ili po književnom, dugmad, odnosno stranu na kojoj su prišiveni za odjeću.

Muškarci i žene imaju dugmad na suprotnim stranama svojih košulja (bluza, u ženskom slučaju) zbog jednog uistinu zastarjelog razloga. Naime, posjedovanje odjeće s tim dodatkom - barem kad je tek izumljen - bio je znak bogatstva. No, zašto su ti botuni ušivani na desnu stranu košulje muškaraca, odnosno na lijevu stranu ženske bluze, i tako od pamtivijeka?

Prema onome što piše Encyclopedia Brittanica, rupice za dugmad izumljene su u 13. stoljeću, a do 14. stoljeća neizravno su prenosile društveni status nositelja. "Nošenje zlatnih, srebrnih i gumba od bjelokosti bilo je pokazatelj bogatstva i staleža", navodi se u publikaciji.

Prema Natalie Hicks, dizajnerici u tvrtki za proizvodnju odjeće, "kao element stila i dizajna, za razliku od funkcije, gumbi su bili rezervirani za bogate žene koje su svoj luksuzni tekstil željele ukrasiti tim predmetima od bisera i dragog kamenja", dok su se druge odlučivale za "tunike poput pregača" ili druge odjevne predmete koji su se mogli samo navući, za razliku od onih na zakopčavanje.

U vezi strane odjeće na kojoj je dugmad ušivena, postoje neke teorije, i sežu u davnu prošlost.

Nekada je dotjerivanje bilo velika stvar, pogotovo ako ste bili bogati, objasnio je Scott Liebenberg, izvršni direktor tvrtke Konusna muška odjeća.

Od 14. stoljeća do danas

Dame su često imale sluškinje koje su im pomagale pri odijevanju, pa je pomoćnica dešnjak(inja) lakše dosezala gumbe s lijeve strane. Muškarci su se, s druge strane, uglavnom sami odijevali, rekao je Liebenberg, a gumbi s desne strane učinili su to općenito lakšom radnjom.

Plemkinje su nosile teške tkanine, a haljine su mogle imati do šest slojeva, tako da bi imale slugu ili poslužitelja koji bi im pomagao oko bavljenja tom višeslojnom odjećom: od podsuknji, kopče, korzeta... Dugmad je stoga bila postavljena u suprotnom smjeru od onog što je bilo standardno za mušku odjeću jer bi poslužitelj stajao ispred osobe koju je prema potrebi brzo odijevao ili svlačio, glasi jedna od teza.

Naime, treba imati na umu da je posjedovanje dugmadi značilo bogatstvo, te da osoba koja raspolaže takvom odjećom ima i vlastitu poslugu. To se podrazumijevalo.

Stvari se očigledno nisu promijenile od 14. stoljeća, jer danas gumbi odavno nisu statusni simbol (kao ručni sat, recimo), štoviše, sveprisutni su – za razliku od služavki koje ljudima (čak i imućnima) pomažu pri odijevanju. Njihove usluge te vrste pregazilo je korištenje jednostavnije, reducirane odjeće koja je danas dizajnirana neizmjerno praktičnije.

Zaključak se nameće sam: stil se razvija, no neki obrasci ostaju. Razlika u stranama na kojima su botuni ušiveni za žene/muškarce je atavizam, prevladana kategorija. I malo tko će se uopće obazirati na to prilikom odabira odjeće.

Iako su razlozi za muško-žensku podjelu davno prevladani, i više nitko ne primjećuje što je na kojoj strani - običaj je opstao

Puno prije donošenja Istanbulske konvencije mogi su detalji iz svakodnevnog života ukazivali na rodnu podjelu "muško" i "žensko". Jedna se odnosi i na – botune, ili po književnom, dugmad, odnosno stranu na kojoj su prišiveni za odjeću.

Muškarci i žene imaju dugmad na suprotnim stranama svojih košulja (bluza, u ženskom slučaju) zbog jednog uistinu zastarjelog razloga. Naime, posjedovanje odjeće s tim dodatkom - barem kad je tek izumljen - bio je znak bogatstva. No, zašto su ti botuni ušivani na desnu stranu košulje muškaraca, odnosno na lijevu stranu ženske bluze, i tako od pamtivijeka?

Prema onome što piše Encyclopedia Brittanica, rupice za dugmad izumljene su u 13. stoljeću, a do 14. stoljeća neizravno su prenosile društveni status nositelja. "Nošenje zlatnih, srebrnih i gumba od bjelokosti bilo je pokazatelj bogatstva i staleža", navodi se u publikaciji.

Prema Natalie Hicks, dizajnerici u tvrtki za proizvodnju odjeće, "kao element stila i dizajna, za razliku od funkcije, gumbi su bili rezervirani za bogate žene koje su svoj luksuzni tekstil željele ukrasiti tim predmetima od bisera i dragog kamenja", dok su se druge odlučivale za "tunike poput pregača" ili druge odjevne predmete koji su se mogli samo navući, za razliku od onih na zakopčavanje.

U vezi strane odjeće na kojoj je dugmad ušivena, postoje neke teorije, i sežu u davnu prošlost.

Nekada je dotjerivanje bilo velika stvar, pogotovo ako ste bili bogati, objasnio je Scott Liebenberg, izvršni direktor tvrtke Konusna muška odjeća.

Od 14. stoljeća do danas

Dame su često imale sluškinje koje su im pomagale pri odijevanju, pa je pomoćnica dešnjak(inja) lakše dosezala gumbe s lijeve strane. Muškarci su se, s druge strane, uglavnom sami odijevali, rekao je Liebenberg, a gumbi s desne strane učinili su to općenito lakšom radnjom.

Plemkinje su nosile teške tkanine, a haljine su mogle imati do šest slojeva, tako da bi imale slugu ili poslužitelja koji bi im pomagao oko bavljenja tom višeslojnom odjećom: od podsuknji, kopče, korzeta... Dugmad je stoga bila postavljena u suprotnom smjeru od onog što je bilo standardno za mušku odjeću jer bi poslužitelj stajao ispred osobe koju je prema potrebi brzo odijevao ili svlačio, glasi jedna od teza.

Naime, treba imati na umu da je posjedovanje dugmadi značilo bogatstvo, te da osoba koja raspolaže takvom odjećom ima i vlastitu poslugu. To se podrazumijevalo.

Stvari se očigledno nisu promijenile od 14. stoljeća, jer danas gumbi odavno nisu statusni simbol (kao ručni sat, recimo), štoviše, sveprisutni su – za razliku od služavki koje ljudima (čak i imućnima) pomažu pri odijevanju. Njihove usluge te vrste pregazilo je korištenje jednostavnije, reducirane odjeće koja je danas dizajnirana neizmjerno praktičnije.

Zaključak se nameće sam: stil se razvija, no neki obrasci ostaju. Razlika u stranama na kojima su botuni ušiveni za žene/muškarce je atavizam, prevladana kategorija. I malo tko će se uopće obazirati na to prilikom odabira odjeće.
