"Mislim da će naš imunološki sustav relativno dobro kontrolirati omikron varijantu virusa i da će nas cjepiva ipak štititi od težih oblika bolesti. Za koji tjedan već ćemo puno više znati o tome kako se omikron ponaša u europskoj populaciji koja je značajno više procijepljena nego li je to slučaj u Južnoj Africi", kaže prof. dr. Bojan Polić, virusni imunolog s Medicinskog fakulteta u Rijeci, piše Jutarnji.

Naime, znanstvenici s južnoafričkog Sveučilišta Stellenbosch objavili su ovih dana da su reinfekcije omikronom onih koji su već preboljeli covid-19 češće nego li kad je riječ o beta ili delta varijanti i to za gotovo dva i pol puta.

No, prof. dr. Polić kaže kako je istina da je omikron očigledno infektivniji jer ima neke mutacije koje mu omogućavaju brže i lakše širenje, ali nema podataka što se zbiva u populaciji koja je cijepljena primjerice s dvije doze cjepiva.

"Ovaj soj ima nešto veću mogućnost infekcije nego li delta, ali što se tiče kliničke slike kod oboljelih, ne zna se hoće li biti teža ili lakša. Naime, po vijestima iz Južne Afrike radi se najčešće o lakšoj kliničkoj slici, ali moramo uzeti u obzira da je tamo populacija mlađa nego u Europi, a već smo svjedočili da je korona teža kod starijih. Osim toga, i genetska struktura stanovništva je nešto drukčija. Uvjeren sam da će procijepljenost u Europi također imati utjecaja i na infekciju i na kliničku sliku", kaže prof.dr. Polić.

Dodaje kako je moguće da kod onih koji su već imali reinfekcija korone ipak neće izazivati težu kliničku sliku. To bi značilo da je moguće da se virus replicira u sluznici, ali stvorena antitijela preboljenjem ne dozvoljavaju teži oblik bolesti. Kad je riječ o cijepljenima, mogućnost širenja omikrona najbolje će se vidjeti u zemljama koje su visoko procijepljene poput Portugala.

U Južnoj Africi zbog omikrona raste broj hospitaliziranih i to u samo jednom tjednu za više od tristo posto. No, dobra je vijest da je smrtnost pala za 64 posto. Inače, ova nova varijanta virusa za sad je zabilježena u više od 20 zemalja, a pokazalo se da je prvih slučajeva izvan Južne Afrike bilo još u listopadu. Također, devet slučajeva otkriveno je 20. studenog u Škotskoj što se povezuje s konferencijom o klimatskim promjenama (COP26) ili pak s ragbi utakmicom na stadioni Murrayfield protiv reprezentacije Južne Afrike u Edinburgu. I Norveška je objavila da je otkriveno 60 zaraženih omikronom na jednoj zabavi u Oslu na kojoj su bile osobe koje su se vratile iz Južne Afrike.

No, prof.dr. Polić drži da omikron u Europi ipak za sad nije bitno proširen, a to temelji na podacima Velike Britanije koja sekvencira najviše uzoraka.

"Istina je da se ne sekvencira svaki uzorak, ali kad u populaciji ima puno nekog soja virusa, onda se to vrlo brzo i otkrije upravo sekvenciranjem", objašnjava prof. dr. Polić.

Mišljenja je da panika nije potrebna, ali oprez svakako jeste. Osobito dok se ne bude znalo kako će se omikron ponašati kod cijepljenih osoba, odnosno hoće li zaštita biti barem kao kod delte jer bi to značilo infekciju ali ne i teži oblik korone ili smrtni ishod.

"Mislim da će naš imunološki sustav relativno dobro kontrolirati omikron varijantu virusa i da će nas cjepiva ipak štititi od težih oblika bolesti. Za koji tjedan već ćemo puno više znati o tome kako se omikron ponaša u europskoj populaciji koja je značajno više procijepljena nego li je to slučaj u Južnoj Africi", kaže prof. dr. Bojan Polić, virusni imunolog s Medicinskog fakulteta u Rijeci, piše Jutarnji.

Naime, znanstvenici s južnoafričkog Sveučilišta Stellenbosch objavili su ovih dana da su reinfekcije omikronom onih koji su već preboljeli covid-19 češće nego li kad je riječ o beta ili delta varijanti i to za gotovo dva i pol puta.

No, prof. dr. Polić kaže kako je istina da je omikron očigledno infektivniji jer ima neke mutacije koje mu omogućavaju brže i lakše širenje, ali nema podataka što se zbiva u populaciji koja je cijepljena primjerice s dvije doze cjepiva.

Naime, po vijestima iz Južne Afrike radi se najčešće o lakšoj kliničkoj slici, ali moramo uzeti u obzira da je tamo populacija mlađa nego u Europi, a već smo svjedočili da je korona teža kod starijih. Osim toga, i genetska struktura stanovništva je nešto drukčija. Uvjeren sam da će procijepljenost u Europi također imati utjecaja i na infekciju i na kliničku sliku", kaže prof.dr. Polić.

Dodaje kako je moguće da kod onih koji su već imali reinfekcija korone ipak neće izazivati težu kliničku sliku. To bi značilo da je moguće da se virus replicira u sluznici, ali stvorena antitijela preboljenjem ne dozvoljavaju teži oblik bolesti. Kad je riječ o cijepljenima, mogućnost širenja omikrona najbolje će se vidjeti u zemljama koje su visoko procijepljene poput Portugala.

U Južnoj Africi zbog omikrona raste broj hospitaliziranih i to u samo jednom tjednu za više od tristo posto. No, dobra je vijest da je smrtnost pala za 64 posto. Inače, ova nova varijanta virusa za sad je zabilježena u više od 20 zemalja, a pokazalo se da je prvih slučajeva izvan Južne Afrike bilo još u listopadu. Također, devet slučajeva otkriveno je 20. studenog u Škotskoj što se povezuje s konferencijom o klimatskim promjenama (COP26) ili pak s ragbi utakmicom na stadioni Murrayfield protiv reprezentacije Južne Afrike u Edinburgu. I Norveška je objavila da je otkriveno 60 zaraženih omikronom na jednoj zabavi u Oslu na kojoj su bile osobe koje su se vratile iz Južne Afrike.

No, prof.dr. Polić drži da omikron u Europi ipak za sad nije bitno proširen, a to temelji na podacima Velike Britanije koja sekvencira najviše uzoraka.

"Istina je da se ne sekvencira svaki uzorak, ali kad u populaciji ima puno nekog soja virusa, onda se to vrlo brzo i otkrije upravo sekvenciranjem", objašnjava prof. dr. Polić.

Mišljenja je da panika nije potrebna, ali oprez svakako jeste. Osobito dok se ne bude znalo kako će se omikron ponašati kod cijepljenih osoba, odnosno hoće li zaštita biti barem kao kod delte jer bi to značilo infekciju ali ne i teži oblik korone ili smrtni ishod.

"Mislim da će naš imunološki sustav relativno dobro kontrolirati omikron varijantu virusa i da će nas cjepiva ipak štititi od težih oblika bolesti. Za koji tjedan već ćemo puno više znati o tome kako se omikron ponaša u europskoj populaciji koja je značajno više procijepljena nego li je to slučaj u Južnoj Africi", kaže prof. dr. Bojan Polić, virusni imunolog s Medicinskog fakulteta u Rijeci, piše Jutarnji.

Naime, znanstvenici s južnoafričkog Sveučilišta Stellenbosch objavili su ovih dana da su reinfekcije omikronom onih koji su već preboljeli covid-19 češće nego li kad je riječ o beta ili delta varijanti i to za gotovo dva i pol puta.

No, prof. dr. Polić kaže kako je istina da je omikron očigledno infektivniji jer ima neke mutacije koje mu omogućavaju brže i lakše širenje, ali nema podataka što se zbiva u populaciji koja je cijepljena primjerice s dvije doze cjepiva.
