Toga dana Split je bio na nogama.

Balvan-revolucija na proljeće 1991. bližila se svojemu zenitu. Pobunjeni Srbi jasno su davali do znanja da neće tako lako prihvatiti ideju o Hrvatskoj kao samostalnoj državi. Cestama su počeli valjati balvane, blokirati ceste, zatvarati prilaze. A onda se u Kijevu, selu u kninskoj općini naseljenom Hrvatima, blokadi priključio i 9. kninski korpus JNA.

Ono što je 6. svibnja 1991. zbog toga prvog otvorenog svrstavanja jugoslavenske armije na stranu pobunjenih Srba najavljeno kao prosvjed radnika škvera, u hipu je preraslo u velike demonstracije. Ispred komande Vojnopomorske oblasti, koja se tada nalazila u zgradi Banovine, okupilo se more Splićana.

Znak odmazde

U trenutku kada su se oko Banovine pojavila dva oklopna transportera JNA, atmosfera se užarila. Dio prosvjednika popeo se na jedan od njih i počeo trgati mitraljez. Iz Banovine je istrčao poručnik JNA i ispalio hitac u zrak. A onda su odjeknula dva rafala. Prvi je ubio mladog Makedonca, 19-godišnjeg ročnika Sašu Gešovskog, koji je stajao uz poručnika. A drugi ranjava Tonija Stojčeva, vojnog policajca koji je pokušao izvući Gešovskog.

U tom trenutku kontraadmiral Josip Erceg, tadašnji zamjenik zapovjednika Vojnopomorske oblasti Mile Kandića, na pregovorima je sa splitskim gradonačelnikom. Dojave mu da je jedan njegov vojnik ubijen. Erceg je u tom trenutku mogao narediti da se puca na masu iz svih oružja. U Banovini je tristotinjak vojnika, oružja dovoljno. Na čistini ispred zgrade prosvjednici su laka meta.

No ovaj rođeni Vrgorčanin nije to želio učiniti. On odbija izravnu zapovijed iz generalštaba u Beogradu da otvori paljbu. Vrh JNA već je neko vrijeme tražio povod za oružanu intervenciju u Hrvatskoj i ubojstvo Gešovskog pružilo im je idealan alibi. No Erceg je rekao “ne”. I spasio Split golemih žrtava.

U znak odmazde je 21. lipnja 1991. smijenjen s dužnosti u Komandi Vojnopomorske oblasti i premješten da nižu funkciju u Upravi Jugoslavenske ratne mornarice u Beogradu.

Visoki rang

Brzo nakon toga prelazi u Hrvatsku vojsku. JNA je napustio 12. rujna 1991. i, preko Mađarske i Slovenije, stigao u Hrvatsku. Od 12. listopada 1991. zapovjednik je Operativne grupe Istra sa sjedištem u Puli, gdje je vodio pregovore s JNA.

Umirovljeni general HV-a Veselko Gabričević admirala Ercega pamti kao smirenog i staloženog čovjeka.

– Nikad se nije puno hvalio onim što je napravio niti isticao svoje zasluge. Bio je smiren i staložen, skroman i samozatajan, ali bio je na pravom putu i na pravoj strani. U razgovoru s njim vidjelo se da je domoljub.

U JNA je bio tako visoko rangiran, a opredijelio se za hrvatsku stvar – ističe u izjavi za Slobodnu Dalmaciju Gabričević, koji je s Ercegom surađivao i u udruzi veterana Domovinskog rata antifašista Vedra.

Umirovljeni admiral Hrvatske ratne mornarice Josip Erceg preminuo je u Splitu 21. studenoga, u 86. godini života. Pokopan je na Lovrincu bez velike pompe, tiho i u krugu obitelji, a Ministarstvo obrane o njegovoj smrti nije objavilo niti vijest.

Zaprijetio Mili Martiću: Ne šaljite patrole!

Još jedna epizoda – ovaj put vezana uz operaciju hrvatskih specijalaca na Plitvicama – govori o tome da je Erceg na vrijeme prozreo velikosrpsku igru. I da ju je, u okviru svojih mogućnosti, pokušavao spriječiti.

O tome svjedoči Dnevnik rada Organa bezbednosti 9. korpusa JNA iz kojega se vidi da su sredinom travnja 1991. počele pripreme srpskog vodstva za “marš mira”, kojim su pobunjenici planirali staviti područje Nacionanog parka Plitvička jezera pod svoj nadzor.

Na te je vijesti prilično burno reagirao Erceg. U dokumentima koje je objavio ravnatelj Hrvatskog memorijalno-dokumentacijskog centra Ante Nazor stoji i sljedeća zabilježba, datirana 16. travnja 1991.

Prema njoj, u 12 sati admiral Erceg nazvao je telefonom svojeg podređenog, pukovnika Đuru Džepinu, i naredio mu da Mili Martiću prenese sljedeće:

”Martiću, JNA je preuzela obavezu da obezbijedi red i mir dok traju pregovori. Vrhovništvo Hrvatske je to prihvatilo i obećalo da neće ništa poduzimati.

Ne smijete to ni vi da činite. Ne smijete da šaljete patrole prema Plitvicama i Gračacu. Ukoliko to budete činili, morat ćemo silom da vas od toga odvratimo.

Radimo i u vašem interesu mirnog razrješenja nastalih političkih problema i nemojte da nas ometate i da nam pravite probleme.”

Toga dana Split je bio na nogama.

Balvan-revolucija na proljeće 1991. bližila se svojemu zenitu. Pobunjeni Srbi jasno su davali do znanja da neće tako lako prihvatiti ideju o Hrvatskoj kao samostalnoj državi. Cestama su počeli valjati balvane, blokirati ceste, zatvarati prilaze. A onda se u Kijevu, selu u kninskoj općini naseljenom Hrvatima, blokadi priključio i 9. kninski korpus JNA.

Ono što je 6. svibnja 1991. zbog toga prvog otvorenog svrstavanja jugoslavenske armije na stranu pobunjenih Srba najavljeno kao prosvjed radnika škvera, u hipu je preraslo u velike demonstracije. Ispred komande Vojnopomorske oblasti, koja se tada nalazila u zgradi Banovine, okupilo se more Splićana.

Znak odmazde

U trenutku kada su se oko Banovine pojavila dva oklopna transportera JNA, atmosfera se užarila. Dio prosvjednika popeo se na jedan od njih i počeo trgati mitraljez. Iz Banovine je istrčao poručnik JNA i ispalio hitac u zrak. A onda su odjeknula dva rafala. Prvi je ubio mladog Makedonca, 19-godišnjeg ročnika Sašu Gešovskog, koji je stajao uz poručnika. A drugi ranjava Tonija Stojčeva, vojnog policajca koji je pokušao izvući Gešovskog.

U tom trenutku kontraadmiral Josip Erceg, tadašnji zamjenik zapovjednika Vojnopomorske oblasti Mile Kandića, na pregovorima je sa splitskim gradonačelnikom. Dojave mu da je jedan njegov vojnik ubijen. Erceg je u tom trenutku mogao narediti da se puca na masu iz svih oružja. U Banovini je tristotinjak vojnika, oružja dovoljno. Na čistini ispred zgrade prosvjednici su laka meta.

No ovaj rođeni Vrgorčanin nije to želio učiniti. On odbija izravnu zapovijed iz generalštaba u Beogradu da otvori paljbu. Vrh JNA već je neko vrijeme tražio povod za oružanu intervenciju u Hrvatskoj i ubojstvo Gešovskog pružilo im je idealan alibi. No Erceg je rekao “ne”. I spasio Split golemih žrtava.

U znak odmazde je 21. lipnja 1991. smijenjen s dužnosti u Komandi Vojnopomorske oblasti i premješten da nižu funkciju u Upravi Jugoslavenske ratne mornarice u Beogradu.

Visoki rang

Brzo nakon toga prelazi u Hrvatsku vojsku. JNA je napustio 12. rujna 1991. i, preko Mađarske i Slovenije, stigao u Hrvatsku. Od 12. listopada 1991. zapovjednik je Operativne grupe Istra sa sjedištem u Puli, gdje je vodio pregovore s JNA.

Umirovljeni general HV-a Veselko Gabričević admirala Ercega pamti kao smirenog i staloženog čovjeka.

– Nikad se nije puno hvalio onim što je napravio niti isticao svoje zasluge. Bio je smiren i staložen, skroman i samozatajan, ali bio je na pravom putu i na pravoj strani. U razgovoru s njim vidjelo se da je domoljub.

U JNA je bio tako visoko rangiran, a opredijelio se za hrvatsku stvar – ističe u izjavi za Slobodnu Dalmaciju Gabričević, koji je s Ercegom surađivao i u udruzi veterana Domovinskog rata antifašista Vedra.

Umirovljeni admiral Hrvatske ratne mornarice Josip Erceg preminuo je u Splitu 21. studenoga, u 86. godini života. Pokopan je na Lovrincu bez velike pompe, tiho i u krugu obitelji, a Ministarstvo obrane o njegovoj smrti nije objavilo niti vijest.

Zaprijetio Mili Martiću: Ne šaljite patrole!

Još jedna epizoda – ovaj put vezana uz operaciju hrvatskih specijalaca na Plitvicama – govori o tome da je Erceg na vrijeme prozreo velikosrpsku igru. I da ju je, u okviru svojih mogućnosti, pokušavao spriječiti.

O tome svjedoči Dnevnik rada Organa bezbednosti 9. korpusa JNA iz kojega se vidi da su sredinom travnja 1991. počele pripreme srpskog vodstva za “marš mira”, kojim su pobunjenici planirali staviti područje Nacionanog parka Plitvička jezera pod svoj nadzor.

Na te je vijesti prilično burno reagirao Erceg. U dokumentima koje je objavio ravnatelj Hrvatskog memorijalno-dokumentacijskog centra Ante Nazor stoji i sljedeća zabilježba, datirana 16. travnja 1991.

Prema njoj, u 12 sati admiral Erceg nazvao je telefonom svojeg podređenog, pukovnika Đuru Džepinu, i naredio mu da Mili Martiću prenese sljedeće:

”Martiću, JNA je preuzela obavezu da obezbijedi red i mir dok traju pregovori. Vrhovništvo Hrvatske je to prihvatilo i obećalo da neće ništa poduzimati.

Ne smijete to ni vi da činite. Ne smijete da šaljete patrole prema Plitvicama i Gračacu. Ukoliko to budete činili, morat ćemo silom da vas od toga odvratimo.

Radimo i u vašem interesu mirnog razrješenja nastalih političkih problema i nemojte da nas ometate i da nam pravite probleme.”
