Predsjednik Međunarodnog olimpijskog odbora (MOO) Thomas Bach vjeruje kako će ljetne olimpijske igre u Tokiju biti važan signal u borbi  čovječanstva protiv novog koronavirusa.

"Olimpijske igre dat će ljudima nadu u budućnost," rekao je na početku sastanka Izvršnog odbora MOO-a u Tokiju.

Na sastanku tri dana prije službenog otvaranja OI, Bach je priznao da je tijekom posljednjih godinu dana bilo puno sumnje u organizaciju Igara.

"Svaki dan smo sumnjali, a bilo je i mnogo neprospavanih noći," kazao je dodavši kako je olimpijska pozornica u Tokiju sada spremna kako bi na njoj sportaši iz cijelog svijeta mogli "zasjati i nadahnuti svijet".

Dodao je kako sve ove izazove MOO ne bi mogao svladati bez podrške japanskih vlasti.

"Sve ove izazove mogli smo nadvladati samo zato što smo tijekom posljednjih osam godina uživali pouzdano partnerstvo s Japanom. Uvijek smo se mogli osloniti na vas", rekao je.

Bach je pohvalio "herojske napore" medicinskog osoblja i volontera širom svijeta usred pandemije i rekao da otkazivanje Igara nikada nije bilo opcija za organizatore.

"MOO nikada ne napušta sportaše," kazao je.

Skupu se obratio i japanski premijer Yoshihide Suga, koji je uvjeren da je nakon "hodanja u dugom tunelu svjetlost sada vidljiva".

Istodobno je rekao da teške okolnosti Igara u Tokiju neće umanjiti njihovu važnost.

Rekao je da će organizatori učiniti sve što je potrebno za sigurne Igre čak i bez gledatelja. "Zaštita zdravlja lokalnog stanovništva i olimpijskih gostiju iz inozemstva je najvažnija," dodao je Suga.

Međutim, Bachovi komentari i drugih dužnosnika MOO-a izazvali su bijes na društvenim mrežama u Japanu. Kako se slučajevi COVID-19 povećavaju u Tokiju, javna zabrinutost raste kako bi domaćin događaja s desecima tisuća inozemnih sportaša, dužnosnika i novinara mogao ubrzati stopu zaraze u glavnom gradu Japana i uvesti varijante koje su zaraznije ili smrtonosnije.

Organizatori su obećali održati Igre "sigurnimim i u olimpijskom "balonom" koji ograničava kretanje sudionika i nalaže česta testiranja, ali stručnjaci već vide problem.

U Japanu je zabilježeno 67 slučajeva infekcija COVID-19 među onima koji su akreditirani za Igre od 1. srpnja, kada su počeli stizati mnogi sportaši i dužnosnici, rekli su u utorak organizatori. To nije uključivalo one u lokalnim kampovima za trening.

Japan je zabilježio više od 838.000 slučajeva COVID-19 i oko 15.000 smrtnih slučajeva.

Otprilike jedna trećina japanskog stanovništva dobila je barem jednu dozu cijepiva, a oko 22% je potpuno cijepljeno, što je jedna od najnižih stopa među bogatim zemljama.

Nekoliko dana prije ceremonije otvaranja u Tokiju, 68% ispitanika u anketi novina Asahi izrazilo je sumnju u sposobnost olimpijskih organizatora da kontroliraju infekcije koronavirusom, dok je 55% reklo da se protive nastavku Igara.

Olimpijske igre koje će se zbog posebnih uvjeta održati bez gledatelja, službeno će se otvoriti u petak, a u srijedu započinju i neka prednatjecanja. Trajat će do 8. kolovoza.

Predsjednik Međunarodnog olimpijskog odbora (MOO) Thomas Bach vjeruje kako će ljetne olimpijske igre u Tokiju biti važan signal u borbi  čovječanstva protiv novog koronavirusa.

"Olimpijske igre dat će ljudima nadu u budućnost," rekao je na početku sastanka Izvršnog odbora MOO-a u Tokiju.

Na sastanku tri dana prije službenog otvaranja OI, Bach je priznao da je tijekom posljednjih godinu dana bilo puno sumnje u organizaciju Igara.

"Svaki dan smo sumnjali, a bilo je i mnogo neprospavanih noći," kazao je dodavši kako je olimpijska pozornica u Tokiju sada spremna kako bi na njoj sportaši iz cijelog svijeta mogli "zasjati i nadahnuti svijet".

Dodao je kako sve ove izazove MOO ne bi mogao svladati bez podrške japanskih vlasti.

"Sve ove izazove mogli smo nadvladati samo zato što smo tijekom posljednjih osam godina uživali pouzdano partnerstvo s Japanom. Uvijek smo se mogli osloniti na vas", rekao je.

Bach je pohvalio "herojske napore" medicinskog osoblja i volontera širom svijeta usred pandemije i rekao da otkazivanje Igara nikada nije bilo opcija za organizatore.

"MOO nikada ne napušta sportaše," kazao je.

Skupu se obratio i japanski premijer Yoshihide Suga, koji je uvjeren da je nakon "hodanja u dugom tunelu svjetlost sada vidljiva".

Istodobno je rekao da teške okolnosti Igara u Tokiju neće umanjiti njihovu važnost.

Rekao je da će organizatori učiniti sve što je potrebno za sigurne Igre čak i bez gledatelja. "Zaštita zdravlja lokalnog stanovništva i olimpijskih gostiju iz inozemstva je najvažnija," dodao je Suga.

Međutim, Bachovi komentari i drugih dužnosnika MOO-a izazvali su bijes na društvenim mrežama u Japanu. Kako se slučajevi COVID-19 povećavaju u Tokiju, javna zabrinutost raste kako bi domaćin događaja s desecima tisuća inozemnih sportaša, dužnosnika i novinara mogao ubrzati stopu zaraze u glavnom gradu Japana i uvesti varijante koje su zaraznije ili smrtonosnije.

Organizatori su obećali održati Igre "sigurnimim i u olimpijskom "balonom" koji ograničava kretanje sudionika i nalaže česta testiranja, ali stručnjaci već vide problem.

U Japanu je zabilježeno 67 slučajeva infekcija COVID-19 među onima koji su akreditirani za Igre od 1. srpnja, kada su počeli stizati mnogi sportaši i dužnosnici, rekli su u utorak organizatori. To nije uključivalo one u lokalnim kampovima za trening.

Japan je zabilježio više od 838.000 slučajeva COVID-19 i oko 15.000 smrtnih slučajeva.

Otprilike jedna trećina japanskog stanovništva dobila je barem jednu dozu cijepiva, a oko 22% je potpuno cijepljeno, što je jedna od najnižih stopa među bogatim zemljama.

Nekoliko dana prije ceremonije otvaranja u Tokiju, 68% ispitanika u anketi novina Asahi izrazilo je sumnju u sposobnost olimpijskih organizatora da kontroliraju infekcije koronavirusom, dok je 55% reklo da se protive nastavku Igara.

Olimpijske igre koje će se zbog posebnih uvjeta održati bez gledatelja, službeno će se otvoriti u petak, a u srijedu započinju i neka prednatjecanja. Trajat će do 8. kolovoza.

Teške okolnosti neće umanjiti njihovu važnost: ‘Olimpijske igre dat će ljudima nadu u budućnost‘

Predsjednik Međunarodnog olimpijskog odbora (MOO) Thomas Bach vjeruje kako će ljetne olimpijske igre u Tokiju biti važan signal u borbi  čovječanstva protiv novog koronavirusa.

"Olimpijske igre dat će ljudima nadu u budućnost," rekao je na početku sastanka Izvršnog odbora MOO-a u Tokiju.

Na sastanku tri dana prije službenog otvaranja OI, Bach je priznao da je tijekom posljednjih godinu dana bilo puno sumnje u organizaciju Igara.

"Svaki dan smo sumnjali, a bilo je i mnogo neprospavanih noći," kazao je dodavši kako je olimpijska pozornica u Tokiju sada spremna kako bi na njoj sportaši iz cijelog svijeta mogli "zasjati i nadahnuti svijet".

Dodao je kako sve ove izazove MOO ne bi mogao svladati bez podrške japanskih vlasti.
