Ako ste mislili da je film Pirati s Kariba inspiriran fikcijom, priča o ovom gradu će vas razuvjeriti. Port Royal u 17. stoljeću figurirao je kao neformalni glavni grad svih pirata koji su djelovali na Karibima. Budući da su razvrat, alkohol i rasipništvo glavne odlike mornara kada siđu na kopno, Port Royal kao njihovo glavno okupljalište postao je nadaleko poznat upravo po tome, piše portal Blic.rs.

Grad na Jamajki kojeg su osnovali 1494 godine Španjolci svoju punu slavu doživio je pod engleskom upravom od 1655. godine. U ime engleskom kralja pirati su napadali i pljačkali španjolske brodove, a Port Royal je postao sigurna luka za morske pljačkaše. Gradom koji je formalno bio pod engleskom upravom zapravo su vladali pirati, među kojima su bili i oni najzloglasniji poput Henryja Morgana, Calico Jacka, Anne Bonny i Edward Teach “Crnobradi”.

U svojim slavnim danima, Port Royal se razvio u jedan od najvećih gradova pod engleskom vlašću. Prepoznatljivost su mu davali bordeli i  taverne. Rastrošniji pirati bi u jednoj večeri potrošili više novca na piće i žene nego što bi radnik zaradio na plantaži tijekom jedne godine. Glavno piće u gradu je bio rum s izuzetno visokim postotkom alkohola. Od tog ruma mnogi su umirali zbog trovanja. Oni koji ne bi umrli od njega, pijani bi se ponašali poput razjarenih zvijeri. 

- Lutao bi pijan gradom poput luđaka. Prvoj osobi na koju bi naišao bi odsjekao ruku ili nogu i nitko se nije smio umiješati… Neke je vezao ili nabijao na drvene kolce i pekao ih žive poput svinja - napisao je Alexander Olivier Exquemelin o jednom piratu iz Port Royala. No svemu tome je došao kraj kada je 7. lipnja grad zadesio zemljotres jačine /,5 stupnjeva po Rihteru.

Za nekoliko sati nestao je skoro cijeli grad. Srušile su se četiri od pet tvrđava koje su izgradili Britanci. Petina stanovništva je poginula u jednom danu. Nekoliko godina kasnije, ono što je ostalo od grada zadesio je veliki požar. Danas je Port Royal malo priobalno selo i nema nikakve sličnosti s gradom grijeha kakav je nekad bio.

Ako ste mislili da je film Pirati s Kariba inspiriran fikcijom, priča o ovom gradu će vas razuvjeriti. Port Royal u 17. stoljeću figurirao je kao neformalni glavni grad svih pirata koji su djelovali na Karibima. Budući da su razvrat, alkohol i rasipništvo glavne odlike mornara kada siđu na kopno, Port Royal kao njihovo glavno okupljalište postao je nadaleko poznat upravo po tome, piše portal Blic.rs.

Grad na Jamajki kojeg su osnovali 1494 godine Španjolci svoju punu slavu doživio je pod engleskom upravom od 1655. godine. U ime engleskom kralja pirati su napadali i pljačkali španjolske brodove, a Port Royal je postao sigurna luka za morske pljačkaše. Gradom koji je formalno bio pod engleskom upravom zapravo su vladali pirati, među kojima su bili i oni najzloglasniji poput Henryja Morgana, Calico Jacka, Anne Bonny i Edward Teach “Crnobradi”.

U svojim slavnim danima, Port Royal se razvio u jedan od najvećih gradova pod engleskom vlašću. Prepoznatljivost su mu davali bordeli i  taverne. Rastrošniji pirati bi u jednoj večeri potrošili više novca na piće i žene nego što bi radnik zaradio na plantaži tijekom jedne godine. Glavno piće u gradu je bio rum s izuzetno visokim postotkom alkohola. Od tog ruma mnogi su umirali zbog trovanja. Oni koji ne bi umrli od njega, pijani bi se ponašali poput razjarenih zvijeri. 

- Lutao bi pijan gradom poput luđaka. Prvoj osobi na koju bi naišao bi odsjekao ruku ili nogu i nitko se nije smio umiješati… Neke je vezao ili nabijao na drvene kolce i pekao ih žive poput svinja - napisao je Alexander Olivier Exquemelin o jednom piratu iz Port Royala. No svemu tome je došao kraj kada je 7. lipnja grad zadesio zemljotres jačine /,5 stupnjeva po Rihteru.

Za nekoliko sati nestao je skoro cijeli grad. Srušile su se četiri od pet tvrđava koje su izgradili Britanci. Petina stanovništva je poginula u jednom danu. Nekoliko godina kasnije, ono što je ostalo od grada zadesio je veliki požar. Danas je Port Royal malo priobalno selo i nema nikakve sličnosti s gradom grijeha kakav je nekad bio.

Ako ste mislili da je film Pirati s Kariba inspiriran fikcijom, priča o ovom gradu će vas razuvjeriti. Port Royal u 17. stoljeću figurirao je kao neformalni glavni grad svih pirata koji su djelovali na Karibima. Budući da su razvrat, alkohol i rasipništvo glavne odlike mornara kada siđu na kopno, Port Royal kao njihovo glavno okupljalište postao je nadaleko poznat upravo po tome, piše portal Blic.rs.

Grad na Jamajki kojeg su osnovali 1494 godine Španjolci svoju punu slavu doživio je pod engleskom upravom od 1655. godine. U ime engleskom kralja pirati su napadali i pljačkali španjolske brodove, a Port Royal je postao sigurna luka za morske pljačkaše. Gradom koji je formalno bio pod engleskom upravom zapravo su vladali pirati, među kojima su bili i oni najzloglasniji poput Henryja Morgana, Calico Jacka, Anne Bonny i Edward Teach “Crnobradi”.

U svojim slavnim danima, Port Royal se razvio u jedan od najvećih gradova pod engleskom vlašću. Prepoznatljivost su mu davali bordeli i  taverne. Rastrošniji pirati bi u jednoj večeri potrošili više novca na piće i žene nego što bi radnik zaradio na plantaži tijekom jedne godine. Glavno piće u gradu je bio rum s izuzetno visokim postotkom alkohola. Od tog ruma mnogi su umirali zbog trovanja. Oni koji ne bi umrli od njega, pijani bi se ponašali poput razjarenih zvijeri. 

- Lutao bi pijan gradom poput luđaka. Prvoj osobi na koju bi naišao bi odsjekao ruku ili nogu i nitko se nije smio umiješati… Neke je vezao ili nabijao na drvene kolce i pekao ih žive poput svinja - napisao je Alexander Olivier Exquemelin o jednom piratu iz Port Royala. No svemu tome je došao kraj kada je 7. lipnja grad zadesio zemljotres jačine /,5 stupnjeva po Rihteru.

Za nekoliko sati nestao je skoro cijeli grad. Srušile su se četiri od pet tvrđava koje su izgradili Britanci. Petina stanovništva je poginula u jednom danu. Nekoliko godina kasnije, ono što je ostalo od grada zadesio je veliki požar. Danas je Port Royal malo priobalno selo i nema nikakve sličnosti s gradom grijeha kakav je nekad bio.
