Dok pandemija koronavirusa ne jenjava ili to čini presporo da bismo se mogli imalo opustiti, znanstvenici rade punom parom na otkrićima koja bi se mogla svrstati u pokušaje sprječavanja novih sličnih situacija.

Jer šteta je učinjena. Koronavirus je prešao na čovjeka (zato ga i nazivamo "novim"), a ono što nam je dosad jasno je i da se širi upravo nevjerojatnom brzinom. Dakako, s osobe na osobu, ali i infekcijom koja se dešava uslijed najnevinije nepažnje, diranjem zaraženih površina, a potom i usta ili nosa.

Stoga je od ekstremne važnosti reagirati prije nego se zaraza dogodi. Pritom ne mislimo na upotrebu sapuna i tople vode kojima možemo isprati aktivni virus s ruku i spriječiti tako njegovo unošenje u organizam, već na prvu ljudsku zarazu, originalnog "nultog pacijenta".

Ono što se dosad zna, naime, je da je koronavirus čovjeka zarazio preko šišmiša. Ne zna se točno gdje i kako, odnosno je li u tome sudjelovala još neka životinja kao posrednik. Nije čak ni potvrđeno sa stopostotnom sigurnošću da se prijelaz dogodio na mokroj tržnici u Wuhanu ili pak (manje vjerojatno) u laboratoriju.

A dok enigme preplavljuju slučaj "novog koronavirusa", znanstvenici u Mijanmaru su otkrili još šest novih tipova koronavirusa kod šišmiša. Tim programa Smithsonian Global Health tvrdi kako je ovo prvi put da su slični virusi otkriveni te da su usko povezani i slični onome koji izaziva Covid-19, kao i SARS-u i MERS-u.

Stručnjaci iz Smithsonianovog programa dodaju kako će daljnja istraživanja biti potrebna kako bi se razumio prijenos između vrsta kad je u pitanju novi koronavirus, stoga i njegov prijelaz na čovjeka. Svoje su rezultate objavili u znanstvenom časopisu PLOS ONE.

- Ova pandemija nas podsjeća koliko je ljudsko zdravlje povezano s okolišem. Diljem svijeta, ljudi se upliću u divlji život, stoga moramo dokučiti što je to što virusu životinje omogući da prijeđe na ljudskog domaćina. Što bolje to budemo shvaćali, lakše ćemo moći predvidjeti i potencijalne buduće pandemije - kaže Marc Valitutto, jedan od stručnjaka koji su radili na istraživanju.

Već uigran tim stručnjaka ujedinjenih pod imenom PREDICT bavi se godinama proučavanjem životinjskih virusa i mogućnosti zaraze na čovjeka. Projekt je pokrenula Američka agencija za međunarodni razvoj (USAID), a tim tvrdi kako se tisuće koronavirusa - mnogi još neotkriveni - nalaze upravo u šišmišima.

Stoga je od ekstremne važnosti otkriti koji su potencijalno opasni za ljude.

- Mnogi koronavirusi ne predstavljaju rizik za čovjeka, ali važno je sve njih identificirati na vrijeme jer se među njima može nalaziti i onaj opasan. Temeljita istraživanja i edukacija naši su najbolji alati u sprječavanju budućih pandemija, zaključuje Suzan Murray iz Smithsonianovog Global Health programa.

Dok pandemija koronavirusa ne jenjava ili to čini presporo da bismo se mogli imalo opustiti, znanstvenici rade punom parom na otkrićima koja bi se mogla svrstati u pokušaje sprječavanja novih sličnih situacija.

Jer šteta je učinjena. Koronavirus je prešao na čovjeka (zato ga i nazivamo "novim"), a ono što nam je dosad jasno je i da se širi upravo nevjerojatnom brzinom. Dakako, s osobe na osobu, ali i infekcijom koja se dešava uslijed najnevinije nepažnje, diranjem zaraženih površina, a potom i usta ili nosa.

Stoga je od ekstremne važnosti reagirati prije nego se zaraza dogodi. Pritom ne mislimo na upotrebu sapuna i tople vode kojima možemo isprati aktivni virus s ruku i spriječiti tako njegovo unošenje u organizam, već na prvu ljudsku zarazu, originalnog "nultog pacijenta".

Ono što se dosad zna, naime, je da je koronavirus čovjeka zarazio preko šišmiša. Ne zna se točno gdje i kako, odnosno je li u tome sudjelovala još neka životinja kao posrednik. Nije čak ni potvrđeno sa stopostotnom sigurnošću da se prijelaz dogodio na mokroj tržnici u Wuhanu ili pak (manje vjerojatno) u laboratoriju.

A dok enigme preplavljuju slučaj "novog koronavirusa", znanstvenici u Mijanmaru su otkrili još šest novih tipova koronavirusa kod šišmiša. Tim programa Smithsonian Global Health tvrdi kako je ovo prvi put da su slični virusi otkriveni te da su usko povezani i slični onome koji izaziva Covid-19, kao i SARS-u i MERS-u.

Stručnjaci iz Smithsonianovog programa dodaju kako će daljnja istraživanja biti potrebna kako bi se razumio prijenos između vrsta kad je u pitanju novi koronavirus, stoga i njegov prijelaz na čovjeka. Svoje su rezultate objavili u znanstvenom časopisu PLOS ONE.

- Ova pandemija nas podsjeća koliko je ljudsko zdravlje povezano s okolišem. Diljem svijeta, ljudi se upliću u divlji život, stoga moramo dokučiti što je to što virusu životinje omogući da prijeđe na ljudskog domaćina. Što bolje to budemo shvaćali, lakše ćemo moći predvidjeti i potencijalne buduće pandemije - kaže Marc Valitutto, jedan od stručnjaka koji su radili na istraživanju.

Već uigran tim stručnjaka ujedinjenih pod imenom PREDICT bavi se godinama proučavanjem životinjskih virusa i mogućnosti zaraze na čovjeka. Projekt je pokrenula Američka agencija za međunarodni razvoj (USAID), a tim tvrdi kako se tisuće koronavirusa - mnogi još neotkriveni - nalaze upravo u šišmišima.

Stoga je od ekstremne važnosti otkriti koji su potencijalno opasni za ljude.

- Mnogi koronavirusi ne predstavljaju rizik za čovjeka, ali važno je sve njih identificirati na vrijeme jer se među njima može nalaziti i onaj opasan. Temeljita istraživanja i edukacija naši su najbolji alati u sprječavanju budućih pandemija, zaključuje Suzan Murray iz Smithsonianovog Global Health programa.

Dok pandemija koronavirusa ne jenjava ili to čini presporo da bismo se mogli imalo opustiti, znanstvenici rade punom parom na otkrićima koja bi se mogla svrstati u pokušaje sprječavanja novih sličnih situacija.

Jer šteta je učinjena. Koronavirus je prešao na čovjeka (zato ga i nazivamo "novim"), a ono što nam je dosad jasno je i da se širi upravo nevjerojatnom brzinom. Dakako, s osobe na osobu, ali i infekcijom koja se dešava uslijed najnevinije nepažnje, diranjem zaraženih površina, a potom i usta ili nosa.

Stoga je od ekstremne važnosti reagirati prije nego se zaraza dogodi. Pritom ne mislimo na upotrebu sapuna i tople vode kojima možemo isprati aktivni virus s ruku i spriječiti tako njegovo unošenje u organizam, već na prvu ljudsku zarazu, originalnog "nultog pacijenta"...
