Strah, briga i povećana pažnja za nuklearnu elektranu Černobil traje otkako su je zauzele ruske okupatorske snage. Nakon samoga osvajanja, praćenog opasnim granatiranjem u blizini nuklearnog postrojenja, koje je uznemirilo cijeli svijet, pojavio se problem obustave električne energije, što je značilo veliki rizik za hlađenje reaktora.

Poslije se moglo pročitati da su ruske okupatorske snage onemogućavale redovitu izmjenu i odmor zaposlenika nuklearke te da su se jako neoprezno ponašale u blizini elektrane, hodajući okolišem bez ikakve zaštitne opreme i vozeći se putevima uz podizanje radioaktivne prašine.
