Muškarac iz Velike Britanije koji je najduže bolovao od Covida-19 i proteklih 14 i pol mjeseci proveo u bolnici, umro je nakon što je rekao da više ne može 'ovako živjeti'. Jason Kelk, 49, primljen je u bolnicu St James u Leedsu, West Yorks., 31. ožujka prošle godine, piše Jutarnji list.

Ondje je ostao sve do jutros kada je prevezen u obližnji hospicij, gdje je posljednje sate proveo okružen članovima svoje obitelji.

Njegova slomljena supruga Sue Kelk (63) rekla je da je Jasonova bitka postala preteška i da je donio odluku da prekine cjelokupno liječenje.

Odajući počast svojoj 'srodnoj duši' s kojim je bila 20 godina, Sue je dodala: 'Bilo je vrlo mirno. Definitivno mu je bilo važno da ode pod svojim vlastitim uvjetima. Iza njega je ostalo jako mnogo ožalošćenih ljudi. Ljudi možda ne misle da je bio hrabar, ali Bože moj, bio je hrabar. Zaista mislim da jest', kazala je.

'Ovo je najhrabrija stvar koju netko može učiniti - zapravo reći: 'Ne želim više živjeti ovako.'

Jason, koji je imao dijabetes i astmu tipa II, primljen je u bolnicu 31. ožujka 2020., a samo nekoliko dana kasnije 3. travnja prebačen je na intenzivnu njegu.

Od tada je bio tamo, boreći se za život nakon što mu je virus poharao pluća i uništio bubrege.

Jason je razvio tako ozbiljne želučane probleme da ga je trebalo hraniti intravenski. Nada se probudila u ožujku ove godine kada je obilježio 15 dana zaredom bez upotrebe respiratora.

Skinuli su ga s dijalize i uživao je u obiteljskim posjetima na otvorenom u krugu bolnice jednom tjedno.

U to je vrijeme kazao kako se nada da će se vratiti u svoj dom u Leedsu, rekavši da želi 'sjediti na svojoj sofi i jesti ribu i čips sa Sue i gledati televiziju'.

Međutim, dodao je: 'U nekoliko sam navrata gubio nadu, uglavnom zato što se čak i sada odredište prema kojem idem, čini tako daleko.'

Jasonov oporavak bio je do te mjere dobar da je mogao piti čaj i jesti kolače te se vratiti jednoj od svojih strasti - računalnom kodiranju.

Nažalost, početkom svibnja stanje mu se pogoršalo i na kraju je opet morao provesti nekoliko dana na respiratoru, prije nego što je razvio dvije infekcije.

Sue je rekla da se od njih 'nikad nije stvarno oporavio'.

Prije tri tjedna ponovno je stavljen na respirator 24 sata dnevno, a Sue je rekla da je u tom trenutku odlučio da mu je dosta.

'Samo je želio da sve skupa završi. Antibiotici su uspjeli, ali njegov duh je nestao. Mislim da je onaj Jason iz veljače 2020. nestao. To je Jason kojeg smo poznavali i voljeli. U posljednjih nekoliko tjedana prije njegova recidiva kazao je da mu se probudila nada, ali da je nakon toga 'dobio novi udarac u zube'.

Sue je rekla da je Jason prije smrti bio okružen najmilijima.

Muškarac iz Velike Britanije koji je najduže bolovao od Covida-19 i proteklih 14 i pol mjeseci proveo u bolnici, umro je nakon što je rekao da više ne može 'ovako živjeti'. Jason Kelk, 49, primljen je u bolnicu St James u Leedsu, West Yorks., 31. ožujka prošle godine, piše Jutarnji list.

Ondje je ostao sve do jutros kada je prevezen u obližnji hospicij, gdje je posljednje sate proveo okružen članovima svoje obitelji.

Njegova slomljena supruga Sue Kelk (63) rekla je da je Jasonova bitka postala preteška i da je donio odluku da prekine cjelokupno liječenje.

Odajući počast svojoj 'srodnoj duši' s kojim je bila 20 godina, Sue je dodala: 'Bilo je vrlo mirno. Definitivno mu je bilo važno da ode pod svojim vlastitim uvjetima. Iza njega je ostalo jako mnogo ožalošćenih ljudi. Ljudi možda ne misle da je bio hrabar, ali Bože moj, bio je hrabar. Zaista mislim da jest', kazala je.

'Ovo je najhrabrija stvar koju netko može učiniti - zapravo reći: 'Ne želim više živjeti ovako.'

Jason, koji je imao dijabetes i astmu tipa II, primljen je u bolnicu 31. ožujka 2020., a samo nekoliko dana kasnije 3. travnja prebačen je na intenzivnu njegu.

Od tada je bio tamo, boreći se za život nakon što mu je virus poharao pluća i uništio bubrege.

Jason je razvio tako ozbiljne želučane probleme da ga je trebalo hraniti intravenski. Nada se probudila u ožujku ove godine kada je obilježio 15 dana zaredom bez upotrebe respiratora.

Skinuli su ga s dijalize i uživao je u obiteljskim posjetima na otvorenom u krugu bolnice jednom tjedno.

U to je vrijeme kazao kako se nada da će se vratiti u svoj dom u Leedsu, rekavši da želi 'sjediti na svojoj sofi i jesti ribu i čips sa Sue i gledati televiziju'.

Međutim, dodao je: 'U nekoliko sam navrata gubio nadu, uglavnom zato što se čak i sada odredište prema kojem idem, čini tako daleko.'

Jasonov oporavak bio je do te mjere dobar da je mogao piti čaj i jesti kolače te se vratiti jednoj od svojih strasti - računalnom kodiranju.

Nažalost, početkom svibnja stanje mu se pogoršalo i na kraju je opet morao provesti nekoliko dana na respiratoru, prije nego što je razvio dvije infekcije.

Sue je rekla da se od njih 'nikad nije stvarno oporavio'.

Prije tri tjedna ponovno je stavljen na respirator 24 sata dnevno, a Sue je rekla da je u tom trenutku odlučio da mu je dosta.

'Samo je želio da sve skupa završi. Antibiotici su uspjeli, ali njegov duh je nestao. Mislim da je onaj Jason iz veljače 2020. nestao. To je Jason kojeg smo poznavali i voljeli. U posljednjih nekoliko tjedana prije njegova recidiva kazao je da mu se probudila nada, ali da je nakon toga 'dobio novi udarac u zube'.

Sue je rekla da je Jason prije smrti bio okružen najmilijima.
