Damon Ayala svakodnevno patrolira ulicama Los Angelesa pogođenog sušom i pregledava pločnike. Zastane svaki put kad uoči lokvu.
Ayala je dio tima gradskog Odjela za vodoopskrbu i energetiku koji svaki tjedan razmatra stotine pritužbi zajednice koje podnose susjedi zbog rasipanja vode.
"Nije ekstremno, ali želimo da to pogledaju", govori Ayala o jednoj lokvi.

"Čini se da imaju navodnjavanje kapanjem s ove strane. Moguće je da samo ne radi konektor", dodao je.
Kaliforniju i zapad Sjedinjenih Država pogađa ozbiljna, višegodišnja suša.
Znanstvenici navode da globalno zatopljenje potaknuto ljudskim djelovanjem, uključujući nekontrolirano sagorijevanje fosilnih goriva, stvara sve više ekstremnih događaja.
S obzirom da su rezervoari i rijeke na povijesno niskim razinama, vlasti Los Angelesa uvele su ograničenje na korištenje vode. Ograničili su navodnjavanje travnjaka na samo osam minuta, dvaput tjedno.
Ayala bilježi adrese nekretnina na kojima pronalazi dokaze o kršenju propisa. Prvi put dobivaju upozorenje.
"Puno puta ne znaju za pravilnik, a naš je posao educirati ih", rekao je.
Kazne za one koji ponove prekršaj kreću se između 200 i 600 dolara.
"Mi zapravo ne želimo njihov novac - to nam ne donosi više vode. Pokušavamo promijeniti ponašanje", rekao je.

Nakon petog prekršaja se postavlja uređaj koji fizički ograničava opskrbu kućanstva, iako Ayala kaže da je taj korak rijetko potreban.
"U prošlosti smo bili u ozbiljnoj sušnoj situaciji u gradu Los Angelesu i njegovi su građani reagirali", rekao je.
"Očekujemo da će ovaj put učiniti isto", dodao je.
Dužnosnici su primijetili manju potražnju za vodom u stambenim objektima u lipnju, u odnosu na isti mjesec prošle godine.
No s pogoršanjem suše će možda biti potrebne trajnije promjene u gradskom krajoliku.
Osim po svojim drvoredima palmi, Los Angeles je tradicionalno poznat i po svojim bujnim, zelenim travnjacima koji se održavaju automatskim prskalicama.
Stanovnici sve više zamjenjuju svoje "žedne" travnjake biljkama iz ove pustinjske regije kojima je potrebno tek nekoliko kapi vode tjedno da bi preživjele.

Ayala je dio tima gradskog Odjela za vodoopskrbu i energetiku koji svaki tjedan razmatra stotine pritužbi zajednice koje podnose susjedi zbog rasipanja vode.
"Nije ekstremno, ali želimo da to pogledaju", govori Ayala o jednoj lokvi.

Kaliforniju i zapad Sjedinjenih Država pogađa ozbiljna, višegodišnja suša.
Znanstvenici navode da globalno zatopljenje potaknuto ljudskim djelovanjem, uključujući nekontrolirano sagorijevanje fosilnih goriva, stvara sve više ekstremnih događaja.
S obzirom da su rezervoari i rijeke na povijesno niskim razinama, vlasti Los Angelesa uvele su ograničenje na korištenje vode. Ograničili su navodnjavanje travnjaka na samo osam minuta, dvaput tjedno.
Ayala bilježi adrese nekretnina na kojima pronalazi dokaze o kršenju propisa. Prvi put dobivaju upozorenje.
"Puno puta ne znaju za pravilnik, a naš je posao educirati ih", rekao je.
Kazne za one koji ponove prekršaj kreću se između 200 i 600 dolara.
"Mi zapravo ne želimo njihov novac - to nam ne donosi više vode. Pokušavamo promijeniti ponašanje", rekao je.

Nakon petog prekršaja se postavlja uređaj koji fizički ograničava opskrbu kućanstva, iako Ayala kaže da je taj korak rijetko potreban.
"U prošlosti smo bili u ozbiljnoj sušnoj situaciji u gradu Los Angelesu i njegovi su građani reagirali", rekao je.
"Očekujemo da će ovaj put učiniti isto", dodao je.
Dužnosnici su primijetili manju potražnju za vodom u stambenim objektima u lipnju, u odnosu na isti mjesec prošle godine.
No s pogoršanjem suše će možda biti potrebne trajnije promjene u gradskom krajoliku.
Osim po svojim drvoredima palmi, Los Angeles je tradicionalno poznat i po svojim bujnim, zelenim travnjacima koji se održavaju automatskim prskalicama.
Stanovnici sve više zamjenjuju svoje "žedne" travnjake biljkama iz ove pustinjske regije kojima je potrebno tek nekoliko kapi vode tjedno da bi preživjele.
