Koronavirus vjerojatno više neće mutirati u opasne varijante koje mogu zaobići cjepiva jer naprosto nema više mnogo prostora na koja bi se mogao probiti. Ovu vrlo optimističnu poruku, izrekla je u srijedu ugledna britanska znanstvenica prof. Sarah Gilbert koja je bila koautorica cjepiva protiv covida AstraZeneca, Sveučilišta Oxford.

Kako izvještavaju svi britanski mediji na webinaru Kraljevskog medicinskog društva Gilbert je objasnila kako virus ne može potpuno mutirati jer šiljak proteina mora stupiti u interakciju s ACE2 receptorom na površini ljudske stanice kako bi ušao u tu stanicu. Kad bi promijenio svoj protein šiljka toliko da ne može stupiti u interakciju s tim receptorom, onda ne bi mogao ući u stanicu.

 „Dakle, nema mnogo mjesta na koja bi virus mogao otići da izbjegne imunitet, a da i dalje bude zaista zarazan virus, kazala je znanstvenica umanjujući strah od neke nove  smrtonosnije varijante virusa SARS-CoV-2

"Obično vidimo da virusi s vremenom postaju manje virulentni jer lakše cirkuliraju i nema razloga misliti da ćemo imati  virulentniju verziju Sars-CoV-2", rekla je. 

Faktori virulentnosti virusa određuju hoće li se bolest pojaviti te težinu same bolesti. Virusima je nužan receptor kako bi ušao u stanicu.

- Vidimo spor genetski pomak virusa, a u populaciji će se postupno razvijati imunitet, kao i na sve ostale sezonske koronaviruse. Ima ih četiri i kruže već desetljećima, a mi ih nismo ni svjesni. Dakle, već živimo s četiri različita ljudska koronavirusa o kojima zapravo i ne razmišljamo previše i na kraju će Sars-CoV-2 postati jedan od njih. Pitanje je koliko će vremena proći dok se to ostvari i koje ćemo mjere u međuvremenu morati poduzeti kako bismo to postigli. Sve dosadašnje varijante virusa, koje su izgledale kao da su virulentnije i da izbjegavaju imunitet, nadvladala je delta varijanta, navela je Sarah Gilbert.

Stručnjaci su i dalje zabrinuti zbog beta i lambda varijanti, ali niti jedna od njih nije se dosad uspjela dovoljno snažno proširiti da istisne deltu.

Inače, Sarah Gilbert je zbog svojih zasluga u razvoju cjepiva dobila titulu dame od kraljice Elizabete; na zadnjem Wimbledonu publika je ustala i dugo joj pljeskala, a američki proizvođač lutkica Barbie, Mattel, izradio je njezinu verziju slavne lutke. Lutka s njezinim likom jedna je od pet slavnih barbika kojima se željelo dati važnost ženama zaposlenima u znanosti, tehnologiji, inženjerstvu i matematici, a uz Gilbert, lutkicu su dobile i kanadska liječnica i aktivistkinja Chika Stacy Oriuwa, australska liječnica Kirby White koja je pomogla stvoriti zaštitnu odjeću za zdravstvene radnike, brazilska biomedicinska istraživačica Jaqueline Goes de Jesus koja vodi sekvenciranje genoma varijante COVID-19 u Brazilu, liječnica Audrey Cruz te poznata medicinska sestra Amy O'Sullivan. Matel je na taj način htio umanjiti kritike kako barbika ni po čemu ne predstavlja realnu sliku žene.

Znanstvenica s Oxford Jenner Instituta prvo izjavila kako joj je ta gesta kompanije  bila čudna, ali ju je ipak pozdravila 'ako će makar neku djevojku inspirirati da se bavi znanošću'.

- Strastveno želim nadahnuti mlade generacije djevojaka u STEM područjima znanosti i nadam se da će djeca imati priliku vidjeti koliko su znanstvene karijere od vitalnih važnosti. Želja mi je da moja lutka pokaže djeci karijere kojih možda nisu svjesni, poput razvoja cjepiva – izjavila je znanstvenica.

Koronavirus vjerojatno više neće mutirati u opasne varijante koje mogu zaobići cjepiva jer naprosto nema više mnogo prostora na koja bi se mogao probiti. Ovu vrlo optimističnu poruku, izrekla je u srijedu ugledna britanska znanstvenica prof. Sarah Gilbert koja je bila koautorica cjepiva protiv covida AstraZeneca, Sveučilišta Oxford.

Kako izvještavaju svi britanski mediji na webinaru Kraljevskog medicinskog društva Gilbert je objasnila kako virus ne može potpuno mutirati jer šiljak proteina mora stupiti u interakciju s ACE2 receptorom na površini ljudske stanice kako bi ušao u tu stanicu. Kad bi promijenio svoj protein šiljka toliko da ne može stupiti u interakciju s tim receptorom, onda ne bi mogao ući u stanicu.

 „Dakle, nema mnogo mjesta na koja bi virus mogao otići da izbjegne imunitet, a da i dalje bude zaista zarazan virus, kazala je znanstvenica umanjujući strah od neke nove  smrtonosnije varijante virusa SARS-CoV-2

"Obično vidimo da virusi s vremenom postaju manje virulentni jer lakše cirkuliraju i nema razloga misliti da ćemo imati  virulentniju verziju Sars-CoV-2", rekla je. 

Faktori virulentnosti virusa određuju hoće li se bolest pojaviti te težinu same bolesti. Virusima je nužan receptor kako bi ušao u stanicu.

- Vidimo spor genetski pomak virusa, a u populaciji će se postupno razvijati imunitet, kao i na sve ostale sezonske koronaviruse. Ima ih četiri i kruže već desetljećima, a mi ih nismo ni svjesni. Dakle, već živimo s četiri različita ljudska koronavirusa o kojima zapravo i ne razmišljamo previše i na kraju će Sars-CoV-2 postati jedan od njih. Pitanje je koliko će vremena proći dok se to ostvari i koje ćemo mjere u međuvremenu morati poduzeti kako bismo to postigli. Sve dosadašnje varijante virusa, koje su izgledale kao da su virulentnije i da izbjegavaju imunitet, nadvladala je delta varijanta, navela je Sarah Gilbert.

Stručnjaci su i dalje zabrinuti zbog beta i lambda varijanti, ali niti jedna od njih nije se dosad uspjela dovoljno snažno proširiti da istisne deltu.

Lutka s njezinim likom jedna je od pet slavnih barbika kojima se željelo dati važnost ženama zaposlenima u znanosti, tehnologiji, inženjerstvu i matematici, a uz Gilbert, lutkicu su dobile i kanadska liječnica i aktivistkinja Chika Stacy Oriuwa, australska liječnica Kirby White koja je pomogla stvoriti zaštitnu odjeću za zdravstvene radnike, brazilska biomedicinska istraživačica Jaqueline Goes de Jesus koja vodi sekvenciranje genoma varijante COVID-19 u Brazilu, liječnica Audrey Cruz te poznata medicinska sestra Amy O'Sullivan. Matel je na taj način htio umanjiti kritike kako barbika ni po čemu ne predstavlja realnu sliku žene.

Znanstvenica s Oxford Jenner Instituta prvo izjavila kako joj je ta gesta kompanije  bila čudna, ali ju je ipak pozdravila 'ako će makar neku djevojku inspirirati da se bavi znanošću'.

- Strastveno želim nadahnuti mlade generacije djevojaka u STEM područjima znanosti i nadam se da će djeca imati priliku vidjeti koliko su znanstvene karijere od vitalnih važnosti. Želja mi je da moja lutka pokaže djeci karijere kojih možda nisu svjesni, poput razvoja cjepiva – izjavila je znanstvenica.

Koronavirus vjerojatno više neće mutirati u opasne varijante koje mogu zaobići cjepiva jer naprosto nema više mnogo prostora na koja bi se mogao probiti. Ovu vrlo optimističnu poruku, izrekla je u srijedu ugledna britanska znanstvenica prof. Sarah Gilbert koja je bila koautorica cjepiva protiv covida AstraZeneca, Sveučilišta Oxford.
