Kad je prije nekoliko godina grupa poduzetnika najavila da će napraviti prvu komercijalnu farmu hobotnica, mnogi su se uznemirili. Znanstvenici su odmah upozorili kako se ta visokointeligentna bića, koja osjećaju bol i radost, ne bi trebala tako uzgajati, premda se čovjek može upitati zašto se nisu jednako pobunili kada je riječ o farmama drugih visokointeligentnih bića, primjerice, svinja.

No, sad je situacija ozbiljnija, jer se više ne radi samo u planovima za daleku budućnost, nego nečemu što bi se uskoro moglo ostvariti. Prema dokumentima koje su vidjeli novinari BBC-a ovo je monstruozni plan: u Španjolskoj, na Kanarskim otocima, planira se izgraditi farma na kojoj bi se ova nevjerojatna bića uzgajala za hranu, piše VauMjau.

Plan je da ih se godišnje uzgoji oko milijun. Iza svega stoji kompanija Nueva Pescanova, koja u dokumentima navodi kako planiraju ‘proizvesti‘ tri tisuće tona godišnje. Njima su ove životinje, koje su inteligentne poput mačaka, samo roba, a nevjerojatno je što tvrde da neće ni malo patiti dok ih se bude ubijalo. Navodno ih se planira ubijati tako da će ih se iz tih spremnika prebacivati u one u kojima je voda za ta malena bića prehladna, odnosno, tamo će biti -3 stupnja Celzijusova. Drugim riječima, smrznut će se. No, studije su pokazale kako ta metoda donosi polaganu, bolnu, užasnu smrt.

Farma će biti vrhunac dugogodišnjeg istraživanja načina na koji se ove životinje razmnožavaju. Nueva Pescanova je 2019. objavila da su otkrili kako to izvesti. No, nije cijeli svijet to blagonaklono gledao - recimo, zakonodavci u američkoj saveznoj državi Washington predložili su da se na području njihove države ova praksa zabrani i prije nego počne. No, u stvarnosti su se takve zakonske odredbe pokazale nedovoljnima: možda ih neće ubiti tamo, ali mogu ih uvesti iz Španjolske, pa sve dođe na isto.

Problematičan je i način uzgoja. Hobotnice su inače samotnjaci koji vole mračna mjesta. Na farmama ih se planira držati u velikim spremnicima, gdje će s njima biti brojne druge hobotnice. Plan je ovakav: 15-25 hobotnica će živjeti u jednom kubnom metru vode, a sve pod neprestanim svjetlom. To je, jednostavno rečeno, recept za život u kojem je svaki trenutak patnja. Smrtnost prije nego ih ubiju? Kompanija procjenjuje da bi se ona kretala između 10 i 15 posto, što im je prihvatljivo.

S obzirom na to da nitko do sada nije uzgajao hobotnice za hranu, nema ni zakona koji bi ih štitili. No, iz Nueve tvrde da će jako dobro paziti na njih.

- Propisi koji su doneseni za dobrobit hobotnica ili bilo koje druge životinje na našim gospodarstvima jamče da ćemo na ispravan način rukovati sa životinjama. To se odnosi i na klanje kojim se izbjegava bilo kakva bol ili patnja životinje... - stoji u službenoj izjavi kompanije, prenosi VauMjau.

Kad je prije nekoliko godina grupa poduzetnika najavila da će napraviti prvu komercijalnu farmu hobotnica, mnogi su se uznemirili. Znanstvenici su odmah upozorili kako se ta visokointeligentna bića, koja osjećaju bol i radost, ne bi trebala tako uzgajati, premda se čovjek može upitati zašto se nisu jednako pobunili kada je riječ o farmama drugih visokointeligentnih bića, primjerice, svinja.

No, sad je situacija ozbiljnija, jer se više ne radi samo u planovima za daleku budućnost, nego nečemu što bi se uskoro moglo ostvariti. Prema dokumentima koje su vidjeli novinari BBC-a ovo je monstruozni plan: u Španjolskoj, na Kanarskim otocima, planira se izgraditi farma na kojoj bi se ova nevjerojatna bića uzgajala za hranu, piše VauMjau.

Plan je da ih se godišnje uzgoji oko milijun. Iza svega stoji kompanija Nueva Pescanova, koja u dokumentima navodi kako planiraju ‘proizvesti‘ tri tisuće tona godišnje. Njima su ove životinje, koje su inteligentne poput mačaka, samo roba, a nevjerojatno je što tvrde da neće ni malo patiti dok ih se bude ubijalo. Navodno ih se planira ubijati tako da će ih se iz tih spremnika prebacivati u one u kojima je voda za ta malena bića prehladna, odnosno, tamo će biti -3 stupnja Celzijusova. Drugim riječima, smrznut će se. No, studije su pokazale kako ta metoda donosi polaganu, bolnu, užasnu smrt.

Farma će biti vrhunac dugogodišnjeg istraživanja načina na koji se ove životinje razmnožavaju. Nueva Pescanova je 2019. objavila da su otkrili kako to izvesti. No, nije cijeli svijet to blagonaklono gledao - recimo, zakonodavci u američkoj saveznoj državi Washington predložili su da se na području njihove države ova praksa zabrani i prije nego počne. No, u stvarnosti su se takve zakonske odredbe pokazale nedovoljnima: možda ih neće ubiti tamo, ali mogu ih uvesti iz Španjolske, pa sve dođe na isto.

Problematičan je i način uzgoja. Hobotnice su inače samotnjaci koji vole mračna mjesta. Na farmama ih se planira držati u velikim spremnicima, gdje će s njima biti brojne druge hobotnice. Plan je ovakav: 15-25 hobotnica će živjeti u jednom kubnom metru vode, a sve pod neprestanim svjetlom. To je, jednostavno rečeno, recept za život u kojem je svaki trenutak patnja. Kad je prije nekoliko godina grupa poduzetnika najavila da će napraviti prvu komercijalnu farmu hobotnica, mnogi su se uznemirili. Znanstvenici su odmah upozorili kako se ta visokointeligentna bića, koja osjećaju bol i radost, ne bi trebala tako uzgajati, premda se čovjek može upitati zašto se nisu jednako pobunili kada je riječ o farmama drugih visokointeligentnih bića, primjerice, svinja.

No, sad je situacija ozbiljnija, jer se više ne radi samo u planovima za daleku budućnost, nego nečemu što bi se uskoro moglo ostvariti. Prema dokumentima koje su vidjeli novinari BBC-a ovo je monstruozni plan: u Španjolskoj, na Kanarskim otocima, planira se izgraditi farma na kojoj bi se ova nevjerojatna bića uzgajala za hranu, piše VauMjau.

Plan je da ih se godišnje uzgoji oko milijun. Iza svega stoji kompanija Nueva Pescanova, koja u dokumentima navodi kako planiraju ‘proizvesti‘ tri tisuće tona godišnje. Njima su ove životinje, koje su inteligentne poput mačaka, samo roba, a nevjerojatno je što tvrde da neće ni malo patiti dok ih se bude ubijalo. Navodno ih se planira ubijati tako da će ih se iz tih spremnika prebacivati u one u kojima je voda za ta malena bića prehladna, odnosno, tamo će biti -3 stupnja Celzijusova. Drugim riječima, smrznut će se. No, studije su pokazale kako ta metoda donosi polaganu, bolnu, užasnu smrt.

Farma će biti vrhunac dugogodišnjeg istraživanja načina na koji se ove životinje razmnožavaju. Nueva Pescanova je 2019. objavila da su otkrili kako to izvesti. No, nije cijeli svijet to blagonaklono gledao - recimo, zakonodavci u američkoj saveznoj državi Washington predložili su da se na području njihove države ova praksa zabrani i prije nego počne. No, u stvarnosti su se takve zakonske odredbe pokazale nedovoljnima: možda ih neće ubiti tamo, ali mogu ih uvesti iz Španjolske, pa sve dođe na isto.

Problematičan je i način uzgoja. Hobotnice su inače samotnjaci koji vole mračna mjesta. Na farmama ih se planira držati u velikim spremnicima, gdje će s njima biti brojne druge hobotnice. Plan je ovakav: 15-25 hobotnica će živjeti u jednom kubnom metru vode, a sve pod neprestanim svjetlom. To je, jednostavno rečeno, recept za život u kojem je svaki trenutak patnja.
