Prije tri tjedna pogled s japanskog otoka Iwo Jima pucao je na otvoreni ocean. Sada se može vidjeti sićušni novi otok tik uz obalu, s kojeg se dimi dok izranja iz vode i nudi rijedak uvid na to kako vulkanski otoci nastaju, piše New York Times.

Novi otok je rezultat aktivnosti podmorskog vulkana koji je počeo eruptirati 21. listopada, na udaljenosti od više od kilometra od Iwo Jime, otoka na kojemu su američke i japanske snage vodile žestoku bitku tijekom Drugog svjetskog rata.

Nema izvještaja o ozlijeđenima ili šteti na Iwo Jimi, udaljenom više od 1000 kilometara od Tokija u Tihom oceanu, od početka erupcije. Erupcija nudi zadivljujući pogled na rijedak geološki fenomen u stvarnom vremenu.

- Slične erupcije dogodile su se prošle godine na istom mjestu, ali ovaj put je točka erupcije iznad površine vode, rekao je Yuji Usui, viši analitičar za vulkanske aktivnosti u Japanskoj meteorološkoj agenciji.

- Sada kada je vidljivo ljudi obraćaju pozornost, rekao je.

Postoji oko 1350 potencijalno aktivnih kopnenih vulkana diljem svijeta, prema podacima Geološkog instituta Sjedinjenih Država. Znanstvenici su do sada otkrili tisuće aktivnih podmorskih vulkana i vjeruju da bi ih moglo biti mnogo više, koji vrebaju ispod valova.

Podmorske vulkanske erupcije povremeno su, tijekom geološke povijesti formirale velike otoke, uključujući one u havajskom arhipelagu. Ali većinu vremena ne možemo svjedočiti tim erupcijama.

"Sve erupcije koje su formirale Havaje bile su prije našeg vremena", rekao je James White, profesor geologije na Sveučilištu Otago na Novom Zelandu koji je proučavao podmorske vulkanske erupcije. "Ali isto tako, dok nije došao do površine vode, ne bismo ih vidjeli čak ni da smo sjedili iznad njih u polinezijskom kanuu."

Aktualna erupcija kod Iwo Jime intenzivirala se tjednima i dosegla vrhunac prošlog petka i subote, rekao je Usui iz Japanske meteorološke agencije. Novi je otok 30. listopada imao promjer od oko 100 metara, ili 328 stopa, prema izvješću Instituta za istraživanje potresa pri Sveučilištu u Tokiju.

Novi bi otok mogao narasti i promijeniti oblik ako se erupcije nastave, ali bi također mogao nestati pod valovima. Otoci nastali na sličan način na tom području 1904., 1914. i 1986. svi su nestali zbog erozije, piše Guardian.

Prije tri tjedna pogled s japanskog otoka Iwo Jima pucao je na otvoreni ocean. Sada se može vidjeti sićušni novi otok tik uz obalu, s kojeg se dimi dok izranja iz vode i nudi rijedak uvid na to kako vulkanski otoci nastaju, piše New York Times.

Novi otok je rezultat aktivnosti podmorskog vulkana koji je počeo eruptirati 21. listopada, na udaljenosti od više od kilometra od Iwo Jime, otoka na kojemu su američke i japanske snage vodile žestoku bitku tijekom Drugog svjetskog rata.

Nema izvještaja o ozlijeđenima ili šteti na Iwo Jimi, udaljenom više od 1000 kilometara od Tokija u Tihom oceanu, od početka erupcije. Erupcija nudi zadivljujući pogled na rijedak geološki fenomen u stvarnom vremenu.

- Slične erupcije dogodile su se prošle godine na istom mjestu, ali ovaj put je točka erupcije iznad površine vode, rekao je Yuji Usui, viši analitičar za vulkanske aktivnosti u Japanskoj meteorološkoj agenciji.

- Sada kada je vidljivo ljudi obraćaju pozornost, rekao je.

Postoji oko 1350 potencijalno aktivnih kopnenih vulkana diljem svijeta, prema podacima Geološkog instituta Sjedinjenih Država. Znanstvenici su do sada otkrili tisuće aktivnih podmorskih vulkana i vjeruju da bi ih moglo biti mnogo više, koji vrebaju ispod valova.

Podmorske vulkanske erupcije povremeno su, tijekom geološke povijesti formirale velike otoke, uključujući one u havajskom arhipelagu. Ali većinu vremena ne možemo svjedočiti tim erupcijama.

"Sve erupcije koje su formirale Havaje bile su prije našeg vremena", rekao je James White, profesor geologije na Sveučilištu Otago na Novom Zelandu koji je proučavao podmorske vulkanske erupcije. "Ali isto tako, dok nije došao do površine vode, ne bismo ih vidjeli čak ni da smo sjedili iznad njih u polinezijskom kanuu."

Aktualna erupcija kod Iwo Jime intenzivirala se tjednima i dosegla vrhunac prošlog petka i subote, rekao je Usui iz Japanske meteorološke agencije. Novi je otok 30. listopada imao promjer od oko 100 metara, ili 328 stopa, prema izvješću Instituta za istraživanje potresa pri Sveučilištu u Tokiju.

Prije tri tjedna pogled s japanskog otoka Iwo Jima pucao je na otvoreni ocean. Sada se može vidjeti sićušni novi otok tik uz obalu, s kojeg se dimi dok izranja iz vode i nudi rijedak uvid na to kako vulkanski otoci nastaju, piše New York Times.

Novi otok je rezultat aktivnosti podmorskog vulkana koji je počeo eruptirati 21. listopada, na udaljenosti od više od kilometra od Iwo Jime, otoka na kojemu su američke i japanske snage vodile žestoku bitku tijekom Drugog svjetskog rata.

Nema izvještaja o ozlijeđenima ili šteti na Iwo Jimi, udaljenom više od 1000 kilometara od Tokija u Tihom oceanu, od početka erupcije. Erupcija nudi zadivljujući pogled na rijedak geološki fenomen u stvarnom vremenu.

- Slične erupcije dogodile su se prošle godine na istom mjestu, ali ovaj put je točka erupcije iznad površine vode, rekao je Yuji Usui, viši analitičar za vulkanske aktivnosti u Japanskoj meteorološkoj agenciji.

- Sada kada je vidljivo ljudi obraćaju pozornost, rekao je.

Postoji oko 1350 potencijalno aktivnih kopnenih vulkana diljem svijeta, prema podacima Geološkog instituta Sjedinjenih Država. Znanstvenici su do sada otkrili tisuće aktivnih podmorskih vulkana i vjeruju da bi ih moglo biti mnogo više, koji vrebaju ispod valova.

Podmorske vulkanske erupcije povremeno su, tijekom geološke povijesti formirale velike otoke, uključujući one u havajskom arhipelagu. Ali većinu vremena ne možemo svjedočiti tim erupcijama.

"Sve erupcije koje su formirale Havaje bile su prije našeg vremena", rekao je James White, profesor geologije na Sveučilištu Otago na Novom Zelandu koji je proučavao podmorske vulkanske erupcije. "Ali isto tako, dok nije došao do površine vode, ne bismo ih vidjeli čak ni da smo sjedili iznad njih u polinezijskom kanuu."

Aktualna erupcija kod Iwo Jime intenzivirala se tjednima i dosegla vrhunac prošlog petka i subote, rekao je Usui iz Japanske meteorološke agencije. Novi je otok 30. listopada imao promjer od oko 100 metara, ili 328 stopa, prema izvješću Instituta za istraživanje potresa pri Sveučilištu u Tokiju.
