Veliki koraljni greben ponovno je pogođen "široko rasprostranjenim" izbjeljivanjem, objavile su vlasti u petak, dok iznadprosječne temperature oceana na sjeveroistoku Australije prijete odranije ugroženom lokalitetu svjetske baštine.

Promatrački letovi iznad grebena otkrili su štetu zbog toplinskog stresa u rasponu od manjeg do jakog izbjeljivanja na 2300 kilometara koraljne mreže, priopćila je uprava morskog parka Veliki koraljni greben.

"Izbjeljivanje je otkriveno u cijelom morskom parku, ono je široko rasprostranjeno, ali različitog intenziteta, u više regija, u rasponu od manjeg do ozbiljnog", navodi se u tjednom ažuriranju.

Tijekom proteklog tjedna temperature mora u cijelom morskom parku kretale su se između 0,5 i dva Celzijeva stupnja iznad prosjeka, dok su na krajnjem sjeveru i priobalnim područjima zabilježene temperature između dva i četiri stupnja iznad prosjeka.

"Najteže pogođeni grebeni su oko regije Townsville. Također je zabilježeno prijevremeno odumiranje gdje je toplinski stres bio najveći."

Vijest dolazi uoči odlaska tima UNESCO-a na greben kako bi se pregledalo zdravlje lokaliteta radi prikupljanja informacija na kojima će se temeljiti odluka o statusu te lokacije na UN-ovu popisu svjetske baštine.

Izbjeljivanje se događa kada zdravi koralji budu pod stresom zbog visokih temperatura oceana, što uzrokuje odbacivanje algi koje žive u njihovim tkivima, oduzimajući im njihove žive boje.

Bilo je pet velikih slučajeva izbjeljivanja diljem Velikog koraljnog grebena potaknutih neuobičajeno toplim temperaturama mora od 1997. godine, zbog čega se mnogi pogođeni koralji bore za preživljavanje.

Nekoliko ciklona također je pogodilo greben, jer klimatske promjene uzrokuju ekstremnije vrijeme.

Širenje morskih zvijezda, poznatih kao trnove krune, također izjeda koralje.

Iako nove promjene na grebenu još nisu klasificirane kao masovno izbjeljivanje, Australsko društvo za očuvanje napisalo je da je novo izvješće "katastrofalna vijest", osobito tijekom vremenskog obrasca La Nina, koji se obično povezuje s nižim temperaturama oceana.

"To pokazuje dosljedan pritisak pod kojim je sada naš greben zbog globalnog zagrijavanja", rekla je dužnosnica društva Lissa Schindler.

"Zdrav greben može se oporaviti od izbjeljivanja koralja, ali treba mu vremena. Češći morski toplinski valovi prvenstveno uzrokovani izgaranjem ugljena i plina znači da ovaj put neće dobiti potrebno vrijeme."

Australska konzervativna vlada ranije ove godine najavila je nova sredstva u nadi da će spriječiti mijenjanje statusa tog koraljnog grebena na UNESCO-ovu popisu svjetske baštine.

Kada je UN prethodno zaprijetio da će 2015. ukloniti greben s popisa svjetske baštine, Australija je izradila plan "Reef 2050" i uložila milijarde dolara u zaštitu.

Vjeruje se da su mjere zaustavile tempo propadanja, ali veći dio najvećeg svjetskog sustava grebena već je oštećen.

Nedavna studija pokazala je da je izbjeljivanje zahvatilo 98 posto grebena od 1998. godine, ostavljajući samo dio netaknutim.

Veliki koralni greben, najveća svjetska živa struktura, vidljiva iz svemira, dodan je na popis 1981. zbog svoje "iznimne prirodne ljepote" i opsežne biološke raznolikosti.

No lokalitetetima nije osigurano trajno mjesto na popisu i mogu biti čak i uklonjeni s njega na preporuku tijela UN-a.

Stavljanje na popis "ugroženih lokacija" ne smatra se sankcijom i neke nacije dodaju svoje lokalitete na popis ugroženih kako bi pridobile međunarodnu pozornost u cilju njihova spasa, no druge to vide kao sramotu.

Veliki koraljni greben ponovno je pogođen "široko rasprostranjenim" izbjeljivanjem, objavile su vlasti u petak, dok iznadprosječne temperature oceana na sjeveroistoku Australije prijete odranije ugroženom lokalitetu svjetske baštine.

Promatrački letovi iznad grebena otkrili su štetu zbog toplinskog stresa u rasponu od manjeg do jakog izbjeljivanja na 2300 kilometara koraljne mreže, priopćila je uprava morskog parka Veliki koraljni greben.

"Izbjeljivanje je otkriveno u cijelom morskom parku, ono je široko rasprostranjeno, ali različitog intenziteta, u više regija, u rasponu od manjeg do ozbiljnog", navodi se u tjednom ažuriranju.

Tijekom proteklog tjedna temperature mora u cijelom morskom parku kretale su se između 0,5 i dva Celzijeva stupnja iznad prosjeka, dok su na krajnjem sjeveru i priobalnim područjima zabilježene temperature između dva i četiri stupnja iznad prosjeka.

"Najteže pogođeni grebeni su oko regije Townsville. Također je zabilježeno prijevremeno odumiranje gdje je toplinski stres bio najveći."

Vijest dolazi uoči odlaska tima UNESCO-a na greben kako bi se pregledalo zdravlje lokaliteta radi prikupljanja informacija na kojima će se temeljiti odluka o statusu te lokacije na UN-ovu popisu svjetske baštine.

Izbjeljivanje se događa kada zdravi koralji budu pod stresom zbog visokih temperatura oceana, što uzrokuje odbacivanje algi koje žive u njihovim tkivima, oduzimajući im njihove žive boje.

Bilo je pet velikih slučajeva izbjeljivanja diljem Velikog koraljnog grebena potaknutih neuobičajeno toplim temperaturama mora od 1997. godine, zbog čega se mnogi pogođeni koralji bore za preživljavanje.

Nekoliko ciklona također je pogodilo greben, jer klimatske promjene uzrokuju ekstremnije vrijeme.

Širenje morskih zvijezda, poznatih kao trnove krune, također izjeda koralje.

Iako nove promjene na grebenu još nisu klasificirane kao masovno izbjeljivanje, Australsko društvo za očuvanje napisalo je da je novo izvješće "katastrofalna vijest", osobito tijekom vremenskog obrasca La Nina, koji se obično povezuje s nižim temperaturama oceana.

"To pokazuje dosljedan pritisak pod kojim je sada naš greben zbog globalnog zagrijavanja", rekla je dužnosnica društva Lissa Schindler.

"Zdrav greben može se oporaviti od izbjeljivanja koralja, ali treba mu vremena. Češći morski toplinski valovi prvenstveno uzrokovani izgaranjem ugljena i plina znači da ovaj put neće dobiti potrebno vrijeme."

Australska konzervativna vlada ranije ove godine najavila je nova sredstva u nadi da će spriječiti mijenjanje statusa tog koraljnog grebena na UNESCO-ovu popisu svjetske baštine.

Kada je UN prethodno zaprijetio da će 2015. ukloniti greben s popisa svjetske baštine, Australija je izradila plan "Reef 2050" i uložila milijarde dolara u zaštitu.

Vjeruje se da su mjere zaustavile tempo propadanja, ali veći dio najvećeg svjetskog sustava grebena već je oštećen.

Nedavna studija pokazala je da je izbjeljivanje zahvatilo 98 posto grebena od 1998. godine, ostavljajući samo dio netaknutim.

Veliki koralni greben, najveća svjetska živa struktura, vidljiva iz svemira, dodan je na popis 1981. zbog svoje "iznimne prirodne ljepote" i opsežne biološke raznolikosti.

No lokalitetetima nije osigurano trajno mjesto na popisu i mogu biti čak i uklonjeni s njega na preporuku tijela UN-a.

Stavljanje na popis "ugroženih lokacija" ne smatra se sankcijom i neke nacije dodaju svoje lokalitete na popis ugroženih kako bi pridobile međunarodnu pozornost u cilju njihova spasa, no druge to vide kao sramotu.

Veliki koraljni greben ponovno je pogođen "široko rasprostranjenim" izbjeljivanjem, objavile su vlasti u petak, dok iznadprosječne temperature oceana na sjeveroistoku Australije prijete odranije ugroženom lokalitetu svjetske baštine.

Promatrački letovi iznad grebena otkrili su štetu zbog toplinskog stresa u rasponu od manjeg do jakog izbjeljivanja na 2300 kilometara koraljne mreže, priopćila je uprava morskog parka Veliki koraljni greben.

"Izbjeljivanje je otkriveno u cijelom morskom parku, ono je široko rasprostranjeno, ali različitog intenziteta, u više regija, u rasponu od manjeg do ozbiljnog", navodi se u tjednom ažuriranju.
